The Woman with the umbrella, Is that Darlene Gillespie from the original Mickey Mouse Club in the commercial?

I would say your guess is as good as mine, but yours is actually better, because I had no idea who Darlene Gillespie is until you said her name.

Full meals on flights with metal utensils and a buffet in first class...at least I enjoyed the buffet on a DC-10 once. Also, smoking and non-smoking sections.

In 2020, thanks to Covid-19, no one is flying.

I disliked it when United Air Lines contracted their official name to United Airlines, and adopted these godawful loud Seventies colors, and that ugly, swooping, nonsense of a symbol -- especially on their planes' tails. They had the nicest looking livery in the U.S. passenger air fleet in the 1960s, what with the white upper, silver lower planes; the blue strip down the window line, the classic red/blue tail stripe, interrupted by "UNITED" and the great red/white/blue crest adorning each plane. Trying to be "mod" on the one hand, and retro (with the change from the classic "Fly the Friendly Skies" slogan and jingle to George Gershwin's old chestnut "Rhapsody in Blue") were mistakes. But, that was the 70s for you.... torn between feeling the need to be "modern" and the back to past times trend, exemplified by "Paper Moon" "Last Picture Show" "Nickelodeon" "The Sting" "Lucky Lady" "Happy Days" "The Front Page" etc). After the greatest of times (the Sixties) things went downhill real fast!

As a former UA employee, I don't believe the Rhapsody in Blue element came into play until the late 80s - and I agree, it wasn't the best choice.
