Milo is my favorite artist, i have so many good (and bad) memories with his early albums. I still listen to 'things that happen at day / things that happen at night' and think about how life has changed... fuck man :')
Finally somebody giving Milo with some proper introspective. I’ve been a fan since 2012 and seeing his progression as an artist is inspiring. On a side note… has anybody ever told you sound like Rory himself lol 😂
Who Told You To Think??!!?!?! really hooked me and ive never had an experience like that since. each album he puts out is a genuine work of art and the world is better simply for hosting them
I still listen to i wish my brother rob was here daily, wish i had a physical of it because its truly a masterpiece❤️ Every stage of his growth as an artist has been beautiful to watch
hard agree with pretty much everything. Purple moonlight pages has grow to become one of my favorites. I can safely say that Rory has set me up on the quest to become open and free. R.A.P. Ferreira will rap forever
Very very sad to see on a reddit post that Rory is actually very rude to his fans, he's been denying people the things they payed for and calling them entitled for asking about it. Loved his stuff but that's no way to treat someone. Separating the art from the artist is a dumb practice, so unfortunately he's no longer one of my favs
Its so weird to think I found this guy when I was in highschool. I heard thief of always and was hooked and now it's a decade in and there isn't a project he's dropped that I didn't respect and few that I didn't love. And I've loved them all differently
thank you for making this! been listening since 2011 & i made the b-sides/rarities tapes entitled Penobscot Expedition in 2012-13 & Supplies in 2016-17. other stuff worth checking out are the Ruby Yacht Radio episodes on dublab (so much incredible hip-hop history in those shows!) and Rory's Crow Billiken project where he performs his own take on the blues. RBYHT FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER
Big ups Def, you're the man for making these. Can I drop some artists I'd love to know more about?? Fly Annakin Quelle Chris Big Ghost Ltd? Ransom Rome Streetz KA Roc Marci Boldy James SonnyJim Crimeapple I really could go on, but just a handful of names. Would be great to see one on Big Ghost however as I beileve he has kept his indentity hidden??? Or any other producer from the underground scene. Obv some of those are well known, but still it would be dope. Again you're the man for these 🙌🙌🔥🔥
Great recs! I definitely hope on getting to most if not all of these guys eventually. Big Ghost is a dope idea too cuz of his background, I def need to dive deeper into his history first tho
I've loved the many personas of rap ferreira for goin on 8 years now. This was a great overview of the evolution of this artist I love. I didn't know budding ornotholgists was so long in the making
Really enjoyed this and will check out the channel further! Saw Rory in Cornell NY when he was touring with Open Mike, Busdriver, and NoCanDo on the Hellfyre Club tour. Its kind of surreal to think about in retrospect
@@DefGoldbloom was a night i definitely will keep with me. Me and my buddies were the only folks who weren't students there. They did a Q&A beforehand too that is on TH-cam in (almost) full: th-cam.com/video/8Nt8Z2o7Mgw/w-d-xo.html
Amazing amazing video! R.A.P Ferreira has always been an artist I felt really connected to. Especially n the last couple years. Theres not too many videos out there about him so this was perfect and fulfilling to watch. Thank you!
Thanks for this retrospective! English isn't my native language so abstract rap is kinda hard for me to understand, but thanks to the instrumentals Purple Moonlight Pages has become one of my favorite hip-hop albums.
Dude thank you so much for making this. This is awesome. I saw R.A.P. Ferreira a few weeks ago for the first time ever but have been a huge fan for years. This is so cool to see and hear about.
How to Rap With a Hammer is a reference to Nietzche's "Twilight of the Idols: or How to Philosophize with a Hammer". The book is where he introduces the concept of "transvaluation of all values" also translated as the Re-evaluations of all values, the process by which you strike the values with a hammer and listen to it.
This was awesome. A lot of stuff I already knew, and a lot of stuff I learned here. But even with the stuff I already knew, it was presented so well, I was just as entertained as I was with any new info
love your videos so much, the only channel on youtube that has content im looking for atm. always putting me onto new stuff and learning more with each video, would love to see an armand hammer video some time
really nice video! an interesting look at rory's art, what you said about his music growing in you over time is extremely true, and as it grows you start to understand it more. wttyt was the first album i've listened from him and it helped me during times were things weren't good. much love dude, this is a great video
4:38 This is probably a reference to the German philosopher Fredrich Nietzsche. He is often associated nihilism and he was also called the philosopher with a hammer. One of his book is also titled Twilight of the Idols: or How to Philosophize with a Hammer
Awesome video Def! Gave me some records from Rory I definitely need to check out. Also, have you heard of Chris Crack from out of Chicago? That dude’s music gets consistently overlooked, but it shouldn’t because Chris Crack is one of the waviest dudes in the underground and has been for almost a decade!!
I’m a huuuuge fan of Chris Crack. I’ve been semi planning on doing a vid on him for a while now but just keep getting side tracked with other ideas, hopefully I’ll get around to him sometime this summer
I've been following him since STFDC. I have a concern regarding a comment I saw on his Facebook page once. Someone mentioned that he was really inebriated and that his rap wasn't that legible. Maybe it's a one-time thing but I really hope he's okay and not losing himself. Anybody know his health going into 2023? He definitely represents freedom to me
the "how to rap with a hammer" thing is a reference to nietzsche's 'twilight of the idols' whose subtitle is 'or how to philosophize with a hammer'. the book was described by nietzsche himself as: "there is no work more rich in substance, more independent, more upsetting - more wicked." from my preliminary reading of it, the book marks what nietzsche thinks are the failures of figures mankind has up until that point deemed great people, the importance of art in giving purpose to life, and the fact that his 'hammer', which from my understanding is nietzsche's way of life, way of philosophizing, and way of looking at meaning in the world, reveals what was previously valued and esteemed in society as in fact being quite empty inside and pointless. not that there is no meaning. he certainly does not claim that. in relation to what ferreira says, i can't say i am sure, BUT perhaps his style of rapping reveals a new way of looking at the art form. perhaps, as with nietzsche, ferreira gives an account of pointlessness in some 'other' place and provides a new account of meaning in some 'other' place. NOT SURE! just thought i'd share some insight and my thoughts since i got the reference. x.
I forget when exactly he said he made it, but he went really in depth into the making of Bobs Son on his interview on the Fly Fidelity podcast. I know he had it done before Purple Moonlight Pages
great video! rory has been my biggest inspiration for a minute now! btw do you have any clue where one can expose them ears to that 'The Truly Ancient and Original Lefthanded Styles of the Hoodwinkers and Penny Pinchers' tape? ^^
Great video man. I was wondering where the best place to listen to his music is, I'm a relatively new fan and have just heard the stuff on his spodify but I'd love to listen to his earlier stuff I just don't know where to find it.
Im the exact same way with The Light Emitting Diamond Cutter Scriptures, I think with time I will love this album right now the sound is a little foreign and I need to familiarize myself to it
to me it feels like the tru synthesis of all his previous sounds, you can hear old milo, bobs son vibes, and the ever growing ever changing ferreira of the present in it. it might be my favorite R.A.P. Ferreira release to date.
I mean this as constructive: i wish you included clips of songs to illustrate the artist's development. All we hear is you. I'm 1/2 way through and 2) 7:45 "this album captures something that hip hop artists have been trying to capture since the dawn of the culture. The feeling that's in the room when hip hop is happening right there in front of you" come on let milo ferreira speak for himself. i'm not into your analysis. Thank you for informing me about the early works i didn't know but come on. have you even been to a show? i only ever saw beat nuts.
