    Pretty well sung, but that final low note, so often employed in concert performances, is not what Strauss wrote.

      Poor bass singers who can never, not even at concerts, amaze the audience with their extreme low notes as tenors do with their extreme high notes, even when they are not written in the original score.

      @@shantanu.t I couldn't tell, from your rather obscure comment, whether you were agreeing or disagreeing:) Sir Thomas Beecham once said that he hated it when people said, 'This is so.' because he felt they were closing off all growth and all possibility of discourse. He considered that opinion was the one thing that was worth hearing, because it showed the individual was engaging with the situation - thus the opposite of Bill Bullard, whoever he is.

      I say either sing the B flat as written or, if you want to show off, don't sing the (tonic) E flat below it (which isn't that low for a bass), but rather sing the B flat below low C, as some basses who have that note do (for example, Gunther Groissböck in the Met At-Home Gala).
