Marilyn was so insecure while filming this movie that she often refused to come out of her dressing room and rehearsed day and night with her acting coach to make sure her performance was on point. Years later, Jane said during an interview that she often had to stick up for Marilyn to the director and crew because she was always late due to spending too much time with her acting coach before each scene. Jane made a point to go to Marilyn's dressing room everyday to coax her into getting to set on time so that she wouldn't get in trouble with the crew. They became good friends after that. Marilyn was an excellent performer (they both were, but Jane had more self-esteem). She made it look easy, but she actually worked very hard at everything she did!

Marilyn wasn’t close to her family from what I gathered in the documentaries and she clearly didn’t have the love she needed to have the confidence to stand up for herself and demand good pay for her work. She was placed with many different sets of foster parents in her childhood.

Just found your reply. I meant nothing negative by my comment. Most of us have things to deal with. Indeed, when someone has great talent, it seems like the media finds their weaknesses, whether drinking divorce, whatever-- and magnifies them to the point that their talent and what they give to us is negated and unduly diminished. We are all human, and subject to frailty.Again, as I previously stated she was talented and beautiful, and a tremendous beauty. I do apologize humbly if I offended.

    [Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russel]
We're just two little girls from Little Rock
We lived on the wrong side of the tracks
But the gentlemen friends who used to call
They never did seem to mind at all
They came to the wrong side of the tracks
    [Marilyn Monroe]
Then someone broke my heart in Little Rock
So I up and left the pieces there
Like a little lost lamb I roamed about
I came to New York and I found out
That men are the same way everywhere
    [Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russel]
I was young and determined to be wined and dined and ermined
And I worked at it all around the clock
Now one of these days in my fancy clothes
I'm a go back home and punch the nose
Of the one who broke my heart (the one who broke my heart)
The one who broke my heart in Little Rock, Little Rock, Little Rock... Little Rock
    [Jane Russel]
I'm just a little girl from Little Rock
A horse used to be my closest pal
Though I never did learn to read or write
I learned about love in the pale moonlight
And now I'm an educated gal
    [Marilyn Monroe]
I learned an awful lot in Little Rock
And here's some advice I'd like to share :
Find a gentleman who is shy or bold
Or short or tall, or young or old
    [Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russel]
As long as the guy's a millionaire!
    [Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russel]
For a kid from the small street I did very well on Wall Street
Though I never owned a share of stock
And now that I'm known in the biggest banks
I'm going back home and give my thanks
To the one who broke my heart (the one who broke my heart)
The one who broke my heart...
    In Little Rock!

Howard Hawks was a genius and many of his movies open with a song or muscial number that simply draw you in the movie but with this one Hawks went right through the roof. I think Monroe and Russel looked never better than in this movie. They both seem to enjoy the movie very much and I think they felt this is something special when they were shooting it. They not even try to upstage each other but it looks like they just have fun together.
