I have the Makita XGT 40v power head version with small guard. I use 3m of 2.4mm in that head. Head bump woren out was hard to ratchet. Switched to aftermarket Echo speed feed head recommended by Prompt Mowers at Rouse Hill. Been great so far. Can float pass and way easier to load/ratchet line in. I use speed 2 as default. 3 if I need it. 1 for around delicate areas/plants or if I'm deadset on maximum runtime (rarely). If your finding the batteries hard to remove. Spray silicone carefully on tool and battery rails only. I was lucky because when I purchased $3500 AUD of MakitaXGT OPE. The 19 inch mower kit included the power head and polesaw attachment for free 😁. I was using Dad's Tanaka 2 stroke probably 25cc ish curve shaft with 3.3mm straight line. Worked well but the vibration was insane. Fatigues hands fast. Makita XGT is buttery smooth. There is a Makita rotary scissor attachment that would work better against that gravel road. Excellent Review!! 👍
I’ve been impressed with the XGT gear. Run times aren’t amazing but I feel it’s because they give you great maximum power. I think a lot of others hold back on power for better run time. I prefer to have to power there if I want it.
I use the UR003G & find the included shoulder strap helps to take the weight of the machine & thus lessen that fatigue factor a little bit! Oooh my first YT comment!!
Ok, fair enough! Yes, very happy with it. Have a 2 stroke stihl & much prefer to use the makita. Though the stihl is a bent shaft, so that could have something to do with it! Great video btw!
Great review Tim, i have this and the 1.5kw one you refer to, they are both great and that 1.5kw one is limited to 5500rpm but it is a torque monster and it makes it like a light saber for doing nice crisp vertical edges. It would be fantastic at your new property for clearing thick stuff.
Hi Matt, great informative video, its a bit pricey but if it survives for 5 ish years and continues to make me money, ill be very glad with the purchase, definitely considering this.. much better than Dawelt or whatever that company is called (much like them, not so good with names xD)

I have a 36V DUR369L Makita line trimmer and the stock head is a manual cut a 3m length wind on the hub then clip back together. Its also max 2.4mm cord. Love the trimmer but wouldn't mind upgrading the head. Thanks.

Geez, these are bloody expensive. I would really like one, but there is no justification in the price. I'm still running my old Ryobi 2 stroke (she must be 7-8 years old now) and is used about 2-3 hours a week domestically (less in winter). Cost new was about $250, and only fill the tank once month. Always starts on the 4th to 6 pull, and never had a service. Plus i do love the process and sound of 2 stroke garden equipment. It seems to piss a lot of people off, and now I'm older, I enjoy that 😂
@@turfandtools Absolutely. One of your podcasts mentioned the "what brand and what tool?" Get one brand, and you are locked in, despite only wanting and needing half of what that brand makes. Hey 👋 Tim Actually I do have a question for you. How long do these batteries 🔋 last? Before the machine is no good anymore? I have a Ryobi came with 2 rechargeable batteries 🔋 they no longer work even after putting them on the charger.
I couldn’t find any info on how many cycles they are rated for but the warranty is 3 years on the Ozito batteries. They will all last different times based on the use, and how they have been recharged and stored. If you want to get the longest possible time out of them, the manual tells you best charging and storing practices
Gardening Karen says you must keep the guard on... no excuses... with great power comes great responsibility... the responsibility to extend the string length and reach supersonic speeds at the tip of the trimmer line... as for the driveway and road, sometimes you need to just let nature decide... you can set and maintain the edges better on the driveway, but the road edge is going to always be a losing battle, so tidy it occasionally, be careful of blowing back from the road to the grass - you will also blow gravel into the grass, which will catch you out when mowing...

I have binned so many shoulder straps. They just get in my way personally. Happy with the tool otherwise?

Just go to the mower store. They always have stock. The echo speed feed is the original but most mower stores sell the Ga spares or jakmax versions.

Mower shop is your best bet. They always have them. Both are decent machines but to me the Makita feels like it has more power with that high rpm.

I've had a similar issue along our wire fence. I'm planning employing one of Tim's techniques & run along the fenceline vertically. See how that goes!

Definitely not cheap but if you run the power tools and already have the batteries it definitely makes a decent case for purchase

Which speed feed head do you recommend?
Usually just whatever is at the mower stores. GA spares or Jakmax. I’ve had good luck with the Stens one I have at the moment.

Its not full if you open it up you will see it only fills up on one line i have the same problem the head is crap
