I concede Eddie was more successful than Joe in the long run, but at the time of this, Joes name was on the HBO special. Not Eddies. and Joe did as many or more skits on SNL. At one point everyone on SNL was canned, but for those 2.
And it died when they left 😭
They basically made that cast. It’s been stated how both of them would warm the audience up off camera by doing skits of Ralph Kramden and Norton as homosexuals. Murphy re-enacted this in his first concert Delirious around that time.
