If you watch in slow play back speed you can kind of see the hoop unravel it seems to have been wrapped around her as if the corset goes round her midriff more than once.
I love how no one was appreciating her because she didn't even put any efforts into the character to make it a bit more interesting but when she pulled out the dress the audience got cheered and then again silent.
I get the impression that this more of a fashion show for costumes than a dramatic production, so I wasn't expecting much of a "character"... but the dress was impressive!
the idea with the hoop being contained I think relates to how the hoop is folded-- if you see when the hoop opens up it looks like some areas are raised; it takes a bit of time before the hoop lays 'flat'. If you search up collapsible hula hoops, then imagine something like that in the dress then it could work if the hoop was cut.( idk if this makes sense when i write it out)
I saw this in a stage production of Cinderella a few years ago. The actress was under a spotlight for the transformation, and she also pulled a pin out of her hair, letting it fall. The result was dazzling, and got the biggest applause of the night.
Absolutely gorgeous! Well done! I think I would probably have found an alternative to the hoop (maybe weights) because it doesn't feel like it's hanging quite right there, but the dress, the swirl, the costuming, all absolutely wonderful

Nope! It's a thin wired hoop! It was commonly used for little kid things and can be folded down to the size of your palm!
Its like those pop up tents. Its the same mechanism

It's a twisted up hoop and when it is released, can expand to a diameter of 8 to 10ft.
