When this song was released in Korea, many companies bankrupted and many Koreans lost jobs. A lot of moms started to work at restaurants and factories for the family and most of children were left alone at home. It was hopeless days but finally we did it by parents' sacrifice. While listening this, I feel sad and it makes me want to say "I love you" to my mom.

I watch all these kdramas where the people live in nice homes, own small restaurants, and wear nice clothes to school, and yet they are portrayed as suffering from poverty because the house is not big enough, the restaurant is too small, and their clothes are not designer, and it makes me feel like they have no idea what real suffering is. Additional comment on Sea Jong Kim's: As widely known, the Korean War following the Japanese Colonialism completely ruined Korea economy. The war impoverished most households in Korea. The only way to survive the economical hardship was the education. Our mothers sacrificed themselves - they did whatever they can do - to make money for educating their children. They all wanted their next generation have better lives.. with no more poverty.. If you are a regular Korean TV program watcher, you would have exprienced many Korean people crying when they happened to talk about their mother or father in the TV show. They all have the life backgrounds as showed in the Music Video.. Deep in our heart, we owe mothers and fathers so much.. Don't know if you already know this but the lyrics were partly based on his own childhood being raised by a widowed mother (in real life his mom didn't die thank god!). g.o.d got the title "nation's group" because of songs like this. They were that one idol group who weren't pitched as teen idols so their fandom is a lot more diverse in age and gender compared to the average idol group. It's good to see somebody connecting to korean culture through a song. The 'maternal sacrifices' shown in the songs of that era is somewhat faded as of now. Don't know if it's good or bad cuz as we're now more like the western people's "you're you, I'm me" mentality, we're more separated from our parents than we were at that time but many of our parents don't have to make those heartbreaking sacrifices anymore.. It's sweet, but it's bitter. Irony of life, huh?
I'm sure that a person who could relate and shed a tear to a song like 'to my mother' would make a good son, brother. Just stay close to your most loved ones.. I lost my father to cancer a couple of years ago and I regret every single hurtful things I said to him before he got sick.. I'm just waiting to see him when I get there. Yea, he talked about it in the variety show "Happy Together" and you got it exactly right. The smell in the lunch room most likely.. And, he also mentioned how it wasn't originally "Jajangmyeon" part. The "my mom didn't like the jajangmyeon". He said the real story is this Korean dish called "Japchae" but it would sound weird if they use "Omoni Japchae shiktagwajoso" lolol. And, I guess "Jajangmyeon" was more famous in Korea so yeap!

Seo Taiji and the Boys is the team of YG from YG entertainment ahahah. He was a famous dancer I think lol. And, one of the Deux guy is the one who started Show Me the Money I believe
JayPongK 2.8 He would be Park Joonhyung aka Joony (famous and infamous for his trademark BAMMM). Don't know if you already know this but the lyrics were partly based on his own childhood being raised by a widowed mother (in real life his mom didn't die thank god!). g.o.d got the title "nation's group" because of songs like this. They were that one idol group who weren't pitched as teen idols so their fandom is a lot more diverse in age and gender compared to the average idol group. They have a song for almost every situation of your life.
My favorite newer release from them is Story of Our Lives. The MV will also make you cry even without a translation of the lyrics 😁
ark san I am considering also click b part of first generation" Kpop idols, in fact they're not idols they're a band, cause of the genre of music they're known for, rock/hip-hop, but mostly rock.
Joon, the group member wrote this song in honor of his Mom. She is still very much alive and doing well. g.o.d. has semi-annual concerts in Korea and Joon appears on various variety shows as well. A couple of the members also appear individually on Immortal Song 2.
I know, the first time I heard this song, I think I gasped out loud at the end. But Joon explained that she was just fine. Good thing!

Most Koreans enjoy singing songs about the sadness of life . Maybe people are going to be stronger with the pain of sacrifice.
Idol music is almost heard by youth
It's good to see somebody connecting to korean culture through a song. The 'maternal sacrifices' shown in the songs of that era is somewhat faded as of now. Don't know if it's good or bad cuz as we're now more like the western people's "you're you, I'm me" mentality, we're more separated from our parents than we were at that time but many of our parents don't have to make those heartbreaking sacrifices anymore.. It's sweet, but it's bitter. Irony of life, huh?
I'm sure that a person who could relate and shed a tear to a song like 'to my mother' would make a good son, brother. Just stay close to your most loved ones.. I lost my father to cancer a couple of years ago and I regret every single hurtful things I said to him before he got sick.. I'm just waiting to see him when I get there.
Anyways, thank you very much Jay for having interest in Korean culture and reviewing the video even I have forgotten for a very long time. Brings back good ol' memories..

So awesome how many kpop lovers are not checking out old school kpop and are doing reviews on it! How the tides have turned. I remember being the only one watching kdramas and listening to kpop in 8th grade in California too lol. My ringtone's were h.o.t, deux, g.o.d lol. 9 years ago people wouldn't be able to relate with me man!!!! This song is awesome!!! I loved Danny's rap flow since then :)
I actually meant *so awesome how many kpop lovers are NOW checking out old school kpop* AHAHAH! that would sound rude if I say *not checking out* lol. It's all good! I still slept on other songs or k-artist now lol. Yea it hit me when I first heard it too and saw the music video. The rapper guy who's been in American movies actually shared that it was his real life story.. But, his mom actually didnt die like in this video!! ahah sorry for that spoiler. The story is about him living in the U.S and they were pretty poor.. And, he would pack kimchi for lunch and the american kids would hate the stench of it.. which pretty much makes sense as well. So yea!
YEAP! But, it's funny cuz' I learned about it just like you and that took me about 9 years to find out the story behind it! ahahah. 2008-2017 lolz. Yea, he talked about it in the variety show "Happy Together" and you got it exactly right. The smell in the lunch room most likely.. And, he also mentioned how it wasn't originally "Jajangmyeon" part. The "my mom didn't like the jajangmyeon". He said the real story is this Korean dish called "Japchae" but it would sound weird if they use "Omoni Japchae shiktagwajoso" lolol. And, I guess "Jajangmyeon" was more famous in Korea so yeap!
