My constant experience in Korea. The restaurants are so overwhelming. A huge part of Korean culture is the food, so if you don't have friends to guide you, deciding on a place can be stressful because the choices are extensive. It is best to follow where the older ones eat. The more homey places are usually the best choice.
In fact, 80% of Korean food is vegetarian. Maybe that's why Koreans are very little allergic to food. If you have a chance in Korea, enjoy the mountain in Korea. And enjoy vegetarianism at restaurants around the mountain. It's not known, but there are so many good menus for the veggies.

Normally, if you request a refill for a non-free side-dish they will tell you it's not free. But some thieves might just give away as if it's free and then charge.
Wow Mark, I didn't think you were going to get that first ssam (wrap) in your mouth but you did! Then of course you had to go bigger haha. It looked to me like the "bean paste" was ssamjang, mostly fermented soy bean paste, with hot pepper paste, a sweetener of your choice, onion, garlic, sesame oil etc. I think you have to make it yourself to get the right amount of hot pepper, garlic and sweet ratio to suit your taste. I'm wondering how much of the food was on the too sweet border for you :)

차돌백이=super thin slices of meat (usually beef) is meant to be eaten almost like medium rare. Koreans won't certainly cook it to the point it gets crispy.
Mason K Many Koreans do actually, since most older generation Koreans are not used to eating any type of meat that is not well done. There is a reason I never take my parents to a Steak restaurant, cause they always order well done which kills the steak quality.
