I caught a 17lb 1oz barbel on the River Trent, on private grounds, in late summer 2023 while having a social session with a mate. It was his first time barbel fishing, and he managed to catch an 8lb barbel. Later, as night fell, the rod screamed off, and after a long 15-minute fight, we landed the biggest barbel I’ve ever seen. As if that wasn’t enough, we also landed a 14lb 6oz barbel a few hours later. To my knowledge, the 17lb 1oz barbel was the biggest caught on that stretch that year.
My PB is from the river idle In Retford and it is 11lb 7oz. Stalked the fish for the whole session, got it feeding confident and the carnage let loose! Epic fish from an epic little river no more than 2/3ft in the swim I caught it and could see it all the way, from feeding to hook! Love the river!!!!
Pb Barbel 14.3lb caught on the Trent on the A34 just past Trentham garden on private ground caught on pork luncheon meat. Took me a year of fishing it i had two over 11lb and loads 3-10lb then one dusk i was bouncing the bait down a fast flowing carved out curve and bang and then the fight of my life began i was 27 and i still remember every detail of it I'm 50 now and I've been back every year since some multiple times per year never caught it again and the biggest out of there since for me has been just over 11lb. I will be honest i swapped to carp fishing not long after that but i do fish it at least once a year still dreaming of catching it or it's offspring or bigger again.
Nice to learn that Deano and I both had some of our first proper fishing experiences at Kings Club on Canvey where my Nan had a caravan in the 70's! Not a massive fish in national terms but one I'm very proud of nevertheless. My PB barbel of 10lb 2 oz was from a BAA stretch of The Wye (Stacklands) and was caught in the middle of only my 2nd trip ever to the river. During the session the river rose over a meter in 3 or 4 hours making the fishing, for someone from north east London, incredibly testing for both me and my tackle. It was a fabulous fight and really pleasing for me, after a few photos and a nice long rest in my net, it swam off none the worse for the experience.
I've never fished for Barbel before?! It's on the bucket list along with fishing with Deano! What a Leg! Olympic medalist, one of the best all rounders out there and a diamond geezer too! Happy New Year to y'all 😀
Had my pb at Fiskerton on the Trent 15lb 4oz , thought my heart would explode . The fight that day was spectacular, not used to days that good , but when it’s your turn .WOW !!!???
My biggest and 1 and only double figure barbel was on the Severn at Arley, rolling a chunk of meat, using me dad's Hardy matchmaker 13 foot rod, only got a weigh it thanks to another angler, it was my second time fishing the great river Severn, I'd guess I was about 12 years of age and me dad never even got to see the fish,he'd gone for a walk, probably for a sneaky pint, as it was a beautiful day an one I'll remember till my dying day,I'm 45 now and have been "hooked " from an early age, that day just cemented my love of fishing. Great video thanks for sharing..👍👏💪🍻🏴 P.s. the fish was 10lb11oz.
11 lb 2 oz River Wye Barbel at Hay On Wye , went there for the Mrs's 50th Birthday and stayed in a cottage riverside at Cabalva Mill . Late October 2023. Great Video Capital Angling . Super Hass and Deano' on the mighty Trent was a fantastic watch. Steve M
Great video, my pb is 12.10z from Upton upon Severn, my mate had a caravan down there he never caught a barbel in 5 years until halibut pellets came out and he had over a dozen doubles in 2 months and invited me down to catch a pb. Happy times...
My best barbel is 10ib 4oz from the river Severn at good old Arley. The fish went to ground for about 10minutes before succumbing. River in flood at the moment so it’s good to watch someone else having success, keep it up boys.
Hello DT here, I caught my pb barbel at the fantastic Hampshire Avon Royalty Fishery, 12LB 8OZ, a good few yards from the railway bridge, made my weekend .
Unfortunately never had the joy of catching a barbel despite trying. Caught loads of chub upto a pb of 7lb 2oz… fingers crossed for the future. Fantastic content and amazing to see Dean smashing it once again 👍🏼
Hi, fascinating & enjoyable video chaps. I was so chuffed a couple of weeks ago to break my Barbel PB with a River Trent fish from Swarkstone weighing 14lbs 6oz 😊
22nd of August 2024 I was fishing the Severn below Blackstone, I’d been there all afternoon and had only caught a couple of chub and roach. It was a lovely warm day and as the light started to fade my one rod went round and I was into a barbel, after a small battle it was in the net. I was just about to unhook it and my other Rod went round so I ended up with two barbel in one net, the 1st one 8lb 2oz which was my new pb the 2nd 10lb 3oz which is now my pb. What a fab day that was
Great Film guys, my PB was a 11.4 fish caught from a high RiverThames at Radcot. Very much unexpected, but welcome. I knew they were in there , but they are hard to pin down.
have never been specific fishing for them. fished with fords angling club as a kid with my brothers and dad but only remember watching the guys pull barbel out on the great ouse . 60 now , will do it before i go.
10lb 2 oz whilst I was trotting maggots on a 6 lb straight through size 16 hook. Was down on the Dorset stour on the throop day ticket. As an all round I’m currently focusing on catching as many barbel from as many different rivers this year. Very enjoyable video 👍
0lbs 0oz! I have been fishing for 21 years and never caught a Barbel here in what is now Barbeless Norfolk. An enjoyable and inspiring video that has hatched some plans for a Trent visit in the future…a helping hand with the tackle would be nice 😂
Brilliant video! Great listening , i remember the art of angling as a lad and the angling times ,. As for barbel 12,,1 on the ribble my best had plenty of doubles but id like to get on the trent with my dad for him to get a double as hes been on the bouncy back from cancer , any info on day tickets would be appreciated!
river trent collingham just up from the carpark 16lb 1oz ,that was the only fish on a 48hr trip , 410 mile around trip for me , but worth it for sure .
I have fished Collingham Weir on three separate occasions and had one great day with 12 barbel , one average day and one blank in the first week of the season. An enjoyable video and well done Dean on two lovely doubles at the end of the day. My PB barbel was from the St Patrick’s Stream in Berkshire on the Twyford & District ticket in September 2014.
My PB Barbel was caught on a one mile stretch of the Kennet at Cottage Lane in Burghfield in Reading. It came in at 11lb13oz. I’ve been fishing there for 2 seasons and I caught this bar of gold in November 23. I’ve struggled down there this season so if you’ve got any tips Deano??? That would be great. Loved the video 👌👌
never fished at collingham weir but it looks the dogs a fantastic video and well done to all. My pb barbel was 8lb 90z at highley on the severn had to scale right down and had it on 8mm spicy sausage pellet size 10 hook.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
I fished it hard till mid 2010s , I've herd that some big fish have been caught last few years ,, I fished on Warrington stretch ,ribchester n Jacksons bank , also had a double at church deeps tho I get distracted by roach n stick floats down there ! ,, 15 ,4 must be one of the biggest out for sure
Great video video guys, my pb is 14.12lb from the upper thames after 13/14 blanks and i actually scaled down that trip for the chub, craziest fight i ever had😂
My PB barbel is a meagre 10lb 4oz, from the River Dearne. It was a hard earned fish from a small river that doesn’t offer up its specimens so easily, and like Deano, I went through A LOT of blanks to get there.
I love all fishing but Bass fishing is something else you’re right just standing there looking out to sea with your mind wandering casting retrieving then bang bass on My pb bass 71cm about 9lb Pb barbel 12.4 out of the Trent and Mersey canal ,great video awsome angler
Lovely 10lb 4oz from the Teme, at Eastham bridge. A truly stunning venue. On the very best value for money card. The BAA. Deano if you have never been go and treat yourself 👍
Hooked my PB Barbel at 11lbs 9oz on the Kennet's backstream by Fobney Lock! Was just 15, fishing with my best mate from school. Epic day, epic fish, still unmatched! Liked, subscribed, and dreaming of new gear to chase that record again. #KennetMemories #BarbelBeast
Unfortunately I have never been fortunate enough to catch one but now my 16 year old son has started fishing and apart from wanting to catch a zander the barbel is on his bucket list so fingers crossed 2025 could be his year
Here's me with my 4lb 6oz PB barbel in my local stretch of the Wharfe 😂 It is my first River season though to be fair. The Trent is the holy grail of barbel fishing though. I really need to go to Newark at some point.
I’ve fished a few venues around Yorkshire and France (La Vienne) having caught a lot of barbel in both countries, my personal best is 9lbs 8oz from the river wharfe! Preferred method is rolling meat, best way to catch them!
My PB Trent barbel was from a flooded stretch of the Trent that deano knows very well, that day was one of those days when you get to the Trent and think omg I'm not going to have a single bite, setting up 6oz running rig with a 15mm hard hooker boilie ,then realising you've left your pva in another bag, so chucked out in the slack water and after a hour in to my day session the rod hooped over a after a good battle omg a pb Trent barbel at 13lb 6oz definitely a day I'll never forget.
Only recently started back fishing after a very long away from it. Got myself all the gear but learning again, still had no idea lol. So I joined my local club and on their book, I was aloud to fish the stretch of the trent at holme in Newark, were I believe dean also fishes quite regularly. So back in the start of September I made my way down to hopefully catch a barble. I had a really good day , caught 6 in fact but all averaging 8 or 9lbs. I was hooked instantly a got the bug lol. After a few sessions and getting everything down to the t, I rolled up at first light 1 morning and straight from the off, it was manic. I couldn't do anything wrong and the barble just kept coming. I had 11 in total, ranging from 7 ish lbs to my pb 14.4lbs 4 doubles in total. Talk about red letter day.
PB barbel was 10lb 4oz on a flooded river Kennet at aldermarston mill 😁😁😁 not a huge one by your standards but really chuffed I caught him as I’ve only ever had 4 in all 😁 great video really enjoyed it as always 👍
Great video, my pb barbel is 15lb 3ozs from the river itchen in Southampton the official record is 16lb 10oz so probably the 2nd biggest and i caught that in 2 hours fishing then went home after that buzzing 😊
My best barbel was my second ever barbel caught at Belmont on the river wye. Day ticket was eight pound. Caught it on a single piece of corn size 12 hook and eight pound breaking strain.
11lb 4oz Barbel on the River Severn, Coalport section on a guest ticket. It's a 372 mile round trip as living in North Devon to fish with your Best Mate and both catching Pb's on the same day.
My PB Barbel is 17lb 9oz from the River Ivel. Caught (on purpose , Not a fluke) on trotted maggots. It was the last time I got to go fishing with my dad, I moved away just after catching that Barbel.
Never managed to find a fishery near me that have barbel think there is 1 place that have some but never been lucky enough to get one good video as always lads.
11.13lb, River Kennet at Hambridge Lane, whilst fishing with the absolute GOAT of Barbel anglers, Trefor West. Think this was around 2003....managed to get myself into his new book too. Tight arse didn't give me a copy though ;)
my Pb barbel is a small 2lb6oz fish from a local pond that i joined for one season just to be able to tick it off my list. never had the gear to be able to travel to the Trent and such and be able to fish for the "real" river barbels.
My PB was on the river severn at monkmoor in November 2 years ago weighed 11-07-0 was a freezing cold day river had a bit of extra water on it. Went with a mate thought we was going to blank had a walk up to him had a chat to him for a few minutes then walked back noticed my rod tip was just tap tap tap thought it was a chub until i lifted into it. Caught it on a 10mm Halibut pellet with a mix of pellets in a pva bag.
My pb is about 9 ounces from rookery waters, north cambs,on a match day, never had one since.my 9 year old son however caught a 7lb.7 from a lake in Dodington, cambs and blew me out the water❤❤❤😂😂😂
14lb 4oz when i was 17yr, from the amazing Great Ouse near Passenham in Buckinghamshire, I now live 2mins from Kingsweir on the Lea so hopefully this year I will finally beat it 😀
Caught my pb on the river Caulder, Wakefield about 2 months ago at 5.6lb. 8mm garlic pellet. I would love to get down to the Trent and Seven at some point.
After having a p.b of 13lb for 8 years and catching loads of 12lb but never breaking that 13lb barrier. I finally broke it last year with a fish of 16lb 14oz also caught one at 14lb 12oz in same session along with few other smaller ones. This from the mighty trent not to far from Deano's session on the weir.
My pb barbel still stands from a muddy stillwater pool. Fre lb's Such a shame! I've been building bits of tackle to finally take the plunge and go on the big rivers away from all the busy lakes.
16.4oz on the trent at fiskerton what a day I will never forget it was first light at around 5 am set off from home in hull at 230am it was the 21st June first cast first double off the session
Had my pb barbel this november of 11lb 13oz on the river Severn at bewdley- have been fishing for barbel for many years and never had a double have came close a fair few times but a bunch of worms on a rising river tempted one out

Trent is unreal fella. The stuff of dreams. What a session for you
Fished the Trent at Hoveringham many times this season and still waiting for my first Trent Barbel 🤞love Deano’s Vids, absolute legend!
My PB is from the river idle In Retford and it is 11lb 7oz. Stalked the fish for the whole session, got it feeding confident and the carnage let loose!
13lb 14oz River Trent at Shardlow. Stunning fish like a torpedo
My barbel pb is 12lb 5oz and was caught on the river trent on the fiskerton stretch ❤️🎣💯

My pb is 6-10 barbel on my first ever barbel trip on the trent at newark, proper got the bug for barbel fishing now

Caught my pb on the river Caulder, Wakefield about 2 months ago at 5.6lb. 8mm garlic pellet. I would love to get down to the Trent and Seven at some point.
Still got my art of fishing binder ❤
After having a p.b of 13lb for 8 years and catching loads of 12lb but never breaking that 13lb barrier. I finally broke it last year with a fish of 16lb 14oz also caught one at 14lb 12oz in same session along with few other smaller ones. This from the mighty trent not to far from Deano's session on the weir.
My pb barbel still stands from a muddy stillwater pool. Fre lb's Such a shame! I've been building bits of tackle to finally take the plunge and go on the big rivers away from all the busy lakes.
Caught 14lb 8 on peg just before collingham weir absolutely brilliant place 👍
12lb 4oz - Warwickshire Avon at Manor Farm. Had a few doubles since, but can't seem to get past that weight!
My pb is 11lb 2oz, caught from river Severn, on guiding day with Des Taylor, a great day
15lb 10oz caught at Dunham bridge back in February 2008, will be a monster now if still alive 👌🎣

Had my pb barbel this november of 11lb 13oz on the river Severn at bewdley- have been fishing for barbel for many years and never had a double have came close a fair few times but a bunch of worms on a rising river tempted one out
I have yet to catch a barbel yet, the Kennet down south is proving rather tricky this year
