    Wow, excellent Graeme. Had no idea, but bought a new lens and my daughter said, "this is out of focus, you need to calibrate." Going to rewatch this, but thanks for this amazing tip and demonstration. Subscriber from Florida, USA.

    Thanks a lot, Graeme ! At last a man, who could explain with no high flying science - Just hand on the camera and press the right buttons. I've been sad for months over buying, what several people in the net called Canon's sharpest, The 50mm f 1,2L -and for the first time in 16 years of photographing digital having blurred pictures. You did it ! :-)
    Greetings from Denmark - and a happy Easter !

      Thank you very much for your Kind comments, the 50mm f1.2 is a fantastic lens to use, but you have to be spot on with the Point of Focus when shooting wide open. Once again thank you

    Very good info Graham. This is something I always meant to do when I had proper telephoto lenses, a bit like my sadly missed 300mm f2.8 and the 500mm f/4. Well, since I have been stuck to 200mm I didn't think I needed to check the calibration, but as I can see here it applies to all focal lengths, so I should give it a go.

    Thanks for explaining it so simple! My canon 24-70 2.8 has been out of focus to the point were I almost sold it til I decided to try to micro adjust the lense, I'm sure this is what it needs thanks a lot.

    Hi Graeme, nice and easy video indeed!
    The measurements table, what's called, can you buy it?
    Or, can you take a photo to something else?
    I have subscribed to your channel and liked! 😁
    Thank you from Sicily!

    Thank you for the video. It was very helpful, but I still have several questions. Hope you’ll be able to help me out with them.
    1. Do we need a separate calibration for each focal length? For example if I have a 17mm - 55mm lens and calibrate at 17 mm would it improve focus ONLY for 17mm or for ANY focal length?
    2. Similar to the above question but for various APERTURES. For example if I calibrate at f/2.8 does it improve focus for ONLY when I use f/2.8 or for OTHER apertures as well? Since we obviously use MORE than one aperture setting when we photograph.
    3. What about the distance at which we perform the calibration, what role does it play in the process?
    4. on the calibration tool/card you focused on the ruler part of it, but what is the function of all the square shapes on the other side and middle of the card?
    I know it’s a lot to ask but would really appreciate if you can answer my questions. Thanks so much, Marianne

    Hey brotha great video thank you. Now as a side question where does your accent come from? I can’t seem too sort it out. Obviously it’s an English accent but I don’t have a trained enough ear to sort it out right away. You do sound like a Beatle to me (hope no offense) as that’s my only reference for now. I know they (Beatles) are from from Liverpool (or greater area). Thank you kindly and have a good day.

    Hi Graeme, can this procedure be used on the canon 100-400mm zoom lens and would you recommend using the lower or higher focal length or does it make no difference?

  • @LeePelling
    @LeePelling 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Graeme , i have considered buying this calibration device but i am a little put off by reviews i have found when trying to calibrate a zoom lens like a 24 to 70 for example , is it easy to calibrate a zoom lens, how far away from the chart do you need to be and do you calibrate at the wide or tele end ? sorry so many questions lol !

    • @MrGraeme1961
      @MrGraeme1961  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Lee it just as easy , if yo look at the af micro adjustments screen you will see above the scale I was using there is a scale with a W at one end and a T at the other end which allows you to calibrate at both the wide and tele ends of your focal length. You just calibrate the wide end first then press set and then do the tele end. I find it very good but you can just use a steel ruler. You only need to be far enough away so that the lens will focus, the closer the better as it’s easier to see on the screen on the back. Hope this helps and makes sense

      Hi Lee if you look up Jeffrey’s focus chart on google I used it downloaded and put on ipad then just put it on table at a angle 30deg or thereabouts., and level your tripod mounted camera.

    Hi Greame, nice video. Did you use a manual focus during the test or the auto focus?

    • @MrGraeme1961

      Hi Jakub I used auto focus to check it’s accurate. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment

    what distance were you away from the target?

  • @paulb5432
    @paulb5432 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    with that 50 mm lens how far was camera form target point?

  • @sportsshooter2574
    @sportsshooter2574 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    if the camera focuses forward of '0' is front focus not back focus. You should focus the lens manually to infinity and focus using the camera on the ruler to give the AF system the chance to find your chosen focus point from the furthest point to the nearest. Also you didn't say anything about distance to set the camera from the ruler for the 50mm lens..
