CREEPING LAVA 🔥

  • Rolling lava stream. Drifting lava. This was filmed on my wife's phone. This is the best footage my wife did. Different type of Samsung camera. The original quality. We made the 4rth trip to the volcano yesterday April 13, 2021 and it had been a big surprise. What we happened to see exceeded all our expectations. This volcano continues to surprise us. Now, instead of 3 we have got 8 openings (8 new craters all emitting lava, except one). Two the most active openings are in Geldingadalur valley next to the old volcano. Two the most northern ones decreased in activity though still emit lava flow. There had been hundreds of people. The weather had been really nice, +9 C. There had been some rain for 30 minutes (and that was interesting, I filmed how rain hits the lava). I was not feeling quite comfortable as the earth had been shaking (you could feel the tremors) and there had been small gas explosions next to the edges of the lava. Anyway the trip had been amazing. We returned to the car at 01:45 am being utterly exhausted from the hike. So it took me some hours to recover.

I hope you didn't burn your face too much and I can imagine it must hurt by now! I heard you mention it today when you stood close to the river of lava. Thank you for your dedication and I hope there is a promotion on the way for you. :) Tell your boss the world is waiting! I read in the comments how you many people were impressed by you. Just put the image in full screen, hit the Print Screen button on the upper near right side of your keyboard at the moment you want to capture. Save it to paint or similar programme and then, right click and choose "set as desktop background". I'm saying this, assuming you don't know all this already, which you may well do. I have just put a
screen capture of this volcano as my desktop image after having not changed it for twelve months.

From Hawai'ian language, this is pahoehoe (pah-HO-ee-HO-ee) lava, and its black-glass crust is broken into mostly plate clinkers. It's fascinating to see how it moves, how the crust breaks and re-forms or is cannibalized.

Is Gut'n Tog good day? I am from the middle of Germany, Upper Frankonia. We say Gut'n Tag, it is German. BUT! We locals speak a dialect that is NOT high German. We also say Gut'n Doch! No one knows where the dialect comes from and strange enough we understand much of the Scottish English , which is not Gaelic nor 100% English. We in Upper Frankonia have great similarities. We also have enough dark-red and curly hair., blue eyes of course. We are mostly blond...perhaps not as we were 55/60 years ago with southern European guest workers moving to Germany. Written Islandic is impossible for me to read, but some spoken I understand. However, it is still a very unique sounding language...rather nice, to us Germans anyway because we are not afraid of the letter 'R'...we use a strong R also in some regions, mostly in the North. I learned so much about Island....I heard about it for the first time when I was 6 years old and a restaurant had a picture hanging on the wall was of fishermen in a stormy sea with the title: ISLANDIC FISHERMEN. The boat's name was Inge. I was so shocked and proud and believed they knew me and named it after me! So I always thought Island must have been my home once upon a time... :) Long story, not volcano but Island related. Good enough , I hope. :) Late afternoon in Florida, so I wish all of you a Gut Nocht!

Boats drift on the ocean. Continents drift on the asthenosphere (more or less). ... Lava flows downhill like water or molasses, depending on its temperature and silica content.

I'm so curious to know what happens to rocks that are covered by the lava. Do they crack, shatter, explode? Do they melt. How far down into the ground does the heat from the lava penetrate? What effects does that penetration have on the soil?
Also, is there anything in Iceland comparable to to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), or the HVO? (Hawaii Volcano Observatory)? They regularly post detailed information about active volcanos in the USA.

Seek the Lord and saviour Jesus Christ before it's too late. John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Hell is real and Heaven is also real. You don't want to spend an eternity in Hell torment without God. The only way to escape Hell is to follow Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour.

Fresh lava hasn't had time to outgas, so it's viscosity is greater and moves quicker and more fluid. The composition doesn't change much, other than the amount of gas still remaining.
