    Aww Martyn your sound affects on the launch when the plane bounced really made me laugh!! I suppose thinking about launching with SAFE if you point the nose up the SAFE is going to give you down elevator!! I've had issues before launching in SAFE, maybe it's the angle of attack we're launching at!! I did e-mail a sort of step by step guide of how I set up the throttle to elevator mix on Wednesday evening so it should be in your e-mail account, thanks for sharing 😀👍

      Hi Ian - Nothing wrong with the odd "BOING" now and again - LOL 🤣🤣🤣, I have now got your emails - they were redirected to my Junk E-Mail folder - I will take a good look a them and see what I can do as this and some other aircraft I hand launch could well do this the assistance from a throttle to Elevator mix. on a launch switch 😀 - I will be replacing the AR630's with AR410's for the Eachine 50mm edf jets as I know they now fly OK - just need to make sure I can launch them ok - and the Mix should help a lot - Cheers Ian - Stay safe both of you - Martyn

      I had a feeling they might have gone to your spam folder Lol I hope it helps, I'm not the best at how to videos so I thought I would go through how I set it up in my DX8, sorry if it seems like I'm teaching you to suck eggs Lol but I hope you get it sorted out!! I quote a figure of 50% up elevator but that was for SAFE not AS3X so it might be lower on a conventional receiver without a Gyro 😀👍

      Hi Brian - Man I was off my game regarding Hand Launching on this day - I hear what you are saying about the Coat - it is also always a maiden issue with me - once flown and trimmed I find that all is OK - but SAFE was holding this bird down due to my lack or rates once I was in AS3X up she went and it was not the only aircraft I had at the field that this happened too - I quite like my Woollen swimming trunks -🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 , As with the Eachine F16 once this one was airborne and trimmed it was very nice - but a little small - so I corrected that problem on the next flight ......Sorry we missed out Chat - catch up later (I hope) Stay well Martyn

      Hi Chris - first let me say good luck when you go for your "A" cert - It is always the maiden Hand Launches that catch me out and then a few others after that 🤣🤣🤣, It is indeed repaired and ready to be seen on video once more - will have to wait until next weekend - weather allowing - I do like to add a bit of fun to my RC Mishaps so the odd "BOING" here and there is inevitable.. 😁😁😁 Stay well Chris - Martyn

    Enjoyed your video and it made me think about F-18s in general. I'm a decent flyer but in the last couple of years have purchased half a dozen different incantations of F-18 from 50-90mm including vectored thrust, NONE of which I have had the nerve to maiden yet. I keep thinking of the F-18 as having a little more lift than an arrow due to the fact that it's short coupled, and the fact that they are EDFs exacerbate the issue. They seem to need more speed than nearly any other plane to fly. I keep thinking that because I am 73 perhaps I should divest my F-18s and focus on my F-16s which seem to me to be FAR easier to handle. Even Brian Phillips, excuse me mentioning another TH-cam R/C channel, even Brian Phillips when he maidened his E-flite F-18 took off and landed from the road in front of his house instead of his driveway like he does with nearly all of his other planes That should tell me (us) something. Anyway I'd be interested in hearing your and your viewers thoughts on this, maybe we can start a movement to say that it's OK not to feel you have to be able to fly an F-18 and feel like you a lesser pilot, even if you are. LOL

    • @FlankerTanker
      @FlankerTanker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John - thanks for watching and leaving your very interesting comment, - First lets talk EDF's - I delayed going into the EDF area for many years thinking they were so different , I was wrong - the modern EDF is just as stable as any prop plane I have flown, and sounds just fantastic - as with any aircraft they can and do go fast but they can also be flown nice and slow (Depending on the aircraft ) - what I mean to say is the fact it is an EDF in itself does NOT mean it needs to be FAST ALL THE TIME - after all the Throttle is not an "ON/OFF" switch which a lot of EDF pilots seem to think it is - I really do wish I had got into EDF sooner than I did - now lets talk F18's - these two the Eachine 50mm and the Freewing 64mm are my first F18s - and for sure the larger F18 is the better F18 - it does not vanish into the distance quite as quickly because it is bigger - where as the 50mm seems to whoosh past and its then a tiny speck - I am about to post the Freewing 64mm F18 maiden and apart from my bad Hand launch - you will see that it can fly nice and slow for a jet.. given the choice I prefer the F18 over the F16 - and indeed my e-flite 64mm F15...John - and I mean this - If you want to say you ahve flown an F18 - and it survived for you to fly it again and again - get the Freewing 64mm one - its not expensive , its a 4S , 5min flight times (good time for an edf) - and really nice to fly... Sorry if I have gone on and on - Stay Well Martyn.

      @@FlankerTanker Actually I have 2 Freewing F-18s, the 3s and 4s but have yet to maiden them. Maybe according to your comments I should do my first maiden on a 64mm F-18, followed by the 50mm, then 70mm then 90mm then 90mm vectored thrust - food for thought and thanks for the quick and thoughtful response.

    My friend, 4S 1300 120c zee packs 4 minutes with time to do a 2 go arounds. And more punch trust me you won't regret it.
    Go 100% throws with 80% expo and set the control surfaces with the most throw available as well. Then do your mid and low rates lower throws but close to the same expo, I only have high and low and almost never switch to low rates now. I'll report my DR/EXPO exact numbers tomorrow.
    My battery sites where yours is, towards the rear of the cockpit for proper CG but I do run an xfly edf.
    I enjoyed your the vid brother, I have the same reactions as well. Especially when I tried the 1800 4s which was to heavy and it hit the deck like yours did.

      @@FlankerTanker Those are not gonna fit in the jet without cutting foam from the canopy cover. The only one I could get to fit in this jet at 4s without modification is the alien model 4s 1100mah 50c lipos, because one of the dimension is 25mm which makes it a good fit. Any lipo with all dimension exceeding 25mm is going to have tough time fitting without foam cutting.

    Yes Martyn you did have a couple of hand launch shockers there, but I think you set yourself a pretty hard task for a maiden with your battery choice. 1800mah, heavier end of what she’ll fly with, 2200 max’ right? Sweet spot probably between 1300 and 1500mah, and 3S, potentially underpowered compared to 4S. Seemed to fly good once up though. Like you say SAFE might have been more of a hindrance than a help in this instance. She took a fair amount of abuse and held up really well I thought so another positive there too. Makes me want to build mine now, I’ll go the same route as with the Arrows Viper and maiden on 1300mah 4S before hopefully settling in with the 1800mah. Looking forward to seeing the 64mm Hornet maiden, and remember no tossing with your left hand..!! Best of luck with it.

      I use 1300 4s Zee packs works great I get 4 solid minutes plus some time to spare, I don't even start prep from landing till my timer is at 0 then still have time for 2 go arounds usually. And I am usually between 50 and 100% throttle during flight.

      Good info’ Anthony, thanks. My choice of 1300 4S is the Ovonic FPV 100c packs which I believe are designed for drone use primarily, what I like about them is they are very slim and have fit in everything I’ve put them in without having to remove any canopy foam.

      Hi Howie - Yes Indeed I think I can say without any contradiction that this was the WORST Hand-launching day I have had for a long long time, _ I cannot see that you could get a 2200Mah into it - but 1300, 1500 or even 1800 4S could give it that little extra Kick to get it up and going - once going it was find on the 3S and in fact now that I have it sort of dialled in - the 3S seem ok - but I will try the 4S - see comment below - I think the Low rates I had set combined with Safe did not help, as soon as I switched to AS3X it was up and away.... - It is indeed tough aircraft many other would have broken up - OH the Arrows Video is a nice machine - 64mm F18 video coming very soon - Left had is out of bounds for sure 😁😆🤣 - Stay well - Martyn

    Should not use a heavy 3s lipo for maiden flight. I powered mine with a 4s drmad thrust aka rclander dps 50mm 10 blades 3300kv. But I also use a very light 4s lipo (95g). Easy handlaunch.
