I was wondering when I saw the thumbnail how a drawing of an apple could take 33 minutes still, I decided to draw along. Boy am I glad I did! My apple came out more beautiful than any other fruit I've ever drawn! Your tutorial was perfect! I am a self-taught artist who learns by watching tutorials like this and I got so much out of this one!! Thanks so much for sharing! Well worth the 33 minutes!!

We have a very large pencil drawing of a still life in the dining room where I was watching your video. Watching you draw what looks like a simple apple made me realize just how much time and effort our friend must have put into the still life on our wall. I have a whole new respect for the artist, who was a friend of ours and is now deceased. I'm new to drawing and am trying to teach myself through youtube videos. I may give your apple a try. But I'm sure it will take me a lot longer than it did you.

What technique of shading is this hatching or contour shading? I'm new to drawing and I see many artists draw an apple with similar strokes but I find it hard to grasp how you change direction of strokes in different areas to get that perfect shadow effect.Is there any technique or logic behind the direction of lines in this case? I do this with 2B pencil faber castell and this HB pencil. Can't really do the coloring though. I think you must use the pencil he use (in description)
No, you need to learn the fundamentals of shading. Yours is going to be lighter, but a fabercastell pencil is by no means a "bad" or "cheap" pencil that can't achieve realism. What matters more is your paper, and how you're using the pencil. Perhaps you are burnishing which is stopping you from achieving multiple layers?
