Najmia tells us in this short film about her dreams, childhood and the city that she grew up at. 14 years since she appeared in Khadija al-Salami's film in 2005 "A Stranger in her Own City". What has changed in Najmia's world? and What remained the same?

This video is so amazing brought me to tears. I remember watching her old videos and wonder how’s the future going to treat her. And it breaks my heart seeing her like this. She had big dreams but the war and traditions stopped her from dreaming :(

She was suffocated by evil tradition and religion; yes she was buried alive in black sacks! I am very disappointed in humanity that we could not save her from that hell.

O Najmia how this video broke my heart and brought me to tears. I’ve always wondered what happened to you and how you’re living your life. I’ve always thought you fulfilled your dreams and stayed the same strong and amazing girl I once seen on that old video. I blame the war, the old traditions of our country and the lack of education and opportunities. Najmia in’sha’Allah you get to have a daughter and let her fulfill her dreams, yours as well, and live her life the way you once wanted to live yours and not let our society do her the same way as it did you. I hope she wants to come Turkey. She can be free, can wear what she wants, take of her hijab if she wants, can go to gym or drive motorcycle or can be traslator.. But our money is really valuable for Yemen and its unfortunatelly never gonna happen :(

I remember when she said she really wanted to go to Egypt. It breaks my heart to know that it's almost impossible for her to achieve her dreams. Even so, I still think that with enough people willing to help/contribute she might be able to go somewhere safer. It's a very small chance but with all the people in the comments here who seem moved by her story I don't think it's too far-fetched to say that we may be able to help her, if she wants to that is.

Unfortunately, Najmiya was not a girl who was interested in her studies. Her interest was focused on playing and wandering in the streets, and she behaved like a boy. If she had been interested and diligent, her father would not have opposed her completing her studies. Many veiled girls completed their studies, achieved their dreams, and became useful to society. The veil was never a reason for a woman to be late and not to obtain a degree. Whatever she dreams of, she only has to be diligent and concerned. Hijab is not the problem, but rather it is a protection for the woman and a preservation of her from harm.

@@a21 That is only the rate of reported harassment. I can guarantee you there is probably so much more in Islamic countries however many cases go unreported due to the shame and pressure to keep it a secret due to status of the families. It's sad but true.
