One of Pat'n Deb's best videos. Interesting to see so many of Pat's concepts resulting in Gus doing two excellent rides. I was exhausted at the end of the video from holding my breath.
That young man is one lucky guy to be able to work along side Pat and learn everything from a cowboy legend. You make it look so easy and controlled. From all the way up north in Alberta, Canada, hats off to you both for putting great first rides on two up and coming colts. Amazing to watch and thanks for sharing with all your followers. Cheers
The tale of the tail....that dun had his tail clamped down tight for the first half of the ride. Gus is soooo lucky to have one of the best horsemen teaching him the ropes. Just purely love it. Wonder if Gus was really thinking BB&J during the dust up. He handled it very well.
This is very valuable teaching! You had a new human student and two very different colts. One that is pretty laid back and the other resentful. Pat you are the master of your craft:)!!
It is never a bad idea to have the helper, in this case the rider, to practise the moves first on a experienced horse. That way there are not two novices at the same time to keep an eye on.😊
I have to commend Pat on the way he communicates with Gus as well as the way that he has talked with Carrie in past videos. Having been in one of Pat‘s clinics and been on the receiving end of his dry humor, this was a nice look at Pat in 100% serious mode. And if that is Chinaco that Pat is mounted on, he sure has filled out nicely.
Holy cow! That was fun stuff...sweet filly and sour gelding. Gotta say i watched him a couple times. Congratulations to your fine student....many years of delicious pb&j's to you, sir!
Great video, I wish pat could come to the southern pa area I would love to spend some time with him. He has a lot to offer and needs to get his knowledge out there.
Reminds me when I was first learnin. It’s always a bit awkward at first. Snubbin is the best way to go for teaching young kid to ride. Very controlled and helps build confidence for both the kid and colt.
That kid is getting one heck of an education! What's the story on Pat's horse? Doesn't look like Chinaco. Interesting to see how a plus on one horse was a minus on the other and vice versa.
@@sarieven That's what I was thinking. Probably a scratch. The older I get (and I'm getting up there) the easier I bleed from the silliest of minor wounds.
He’s teaching the colt to do a one rein stop. So he pulls the head around with one rein and kicks the hindquarters out of gear. If the colt doesn’t disengage his hindquarters, Gus won’t be able to stop him when he goes outside if things fall apart. Here’s a video: th-cam.com/video/ECyhsfW6lDk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=24tSvigbj5e5qe_v
That's the way how a guide a horse. That's where you look at the experience of a cowboy. Nice to see Mr. Pat smile and play with the boy. I watched a video by David Alonso, (Doma Natural) the name of the channel. He Leading a mule with two meters of rope, he had to attach it d nouse mule close to the saddle. She started bucking and throw the rider to d ground close to d back legs well anyway. Greetings and blessings from Sonora. Max.🙌🙋👍🇲🇽

Kudos to Pat for the control of the broke horse! Kudos to Gus for riding out the "bumps"! Well done you two.
I learn more from Pat than I do from any other horse rider. I love that you showed us the difference between one horse and the other.

Amazing! Gus can really ride. He should be so proud of himself for being part of bringing two very different colts along right!

A new horseman in the making. Awesome.
Thank you and what impeccable timing Pat demonstrates.
When the master says plz he is humble enough to deserve all the respect available

I don't ride horses, I have no skill or experience in it. This is the most interesting thing I've watched in a long time.
Nice gray Pat's riding
Old guys rule!!! Loved seeing great skills paired with calm execution. Nice work.
Thanks for the videos. Brings back memories of putting on some first rides with my uncle years ago.
Pat's exhale is a such wise thing
That is a wonderful horse and Gus is doing a great job.
Beautiful Gus keep sitting back on the colt-that filly is a beauty queen.
Absolutely amazing video. So much knowledge packed into this. The Roan is who we want to be the Dunn is who we are…

Thank you so much for sharing! I could watch them start colts all day 😆❤️
I really appreciate the work you put in to making all your videos! I learn a lot from them.
I really appreciate all of your videos. Thank you.

I'll second that idea. I live in south central PA. I would love to meet Pat someday.

Nice start. Looking forward to watching the progress.
Beautiful.
When you said he wants to learn how to start colts the way Pat does it, I thought 'smart kid'.
Awesome to watch. Tracey(Australia)
Amazing video , nice young kid and horses

Well done.
Just Amazing to watch
Master at work, thank you so much for sharing. 😊
well done, all

How beautiful.
Jim Stierwalt Ranch Spray Oregon.. 1973 was a snubbing up event every two days.. I was fifteen lacking so much self confidence
You guys are the best 👍
Reminds me of a bunch of time I rode the rough off of colts……
My grandfather put the first rides on all his colts this way. I cannot count how many bumos and bruises I got from it 😂
Thank you for the video
I can’t wait to go visit you
I sent you a email earlier on the week I’ll be happy to visit this summer.
What horse is Pat riding?
“Don’t drag your foot over her butt”
*does exactly that*
Was the dun colt worried about switching to the right eye? I Had one act the same way every time he saw me from that eye
That elbow got bunged up a bit.
Any idea what happened? Looked to me like it happened when he kind of got up
Over Pat for a second. Hope it is just a scratch.
@@sarieven That's what I was thinking. Probably a scratch. The older I get (and I'm getting up there) the easier I bleed from the silliest of minor wounds.
isn't it more dangerous when you crawl so slow when you mount and dismount?
Probably why pat has his horses gentled to how he mounts and dismounts
Dunn horse might have a temper, but he will be a good working cow horse.
Don't understand shutting the dun down but he's pulling on a rein and kicking him with heel.
