May TV chess show pa noon sina bordonada at sammy estimo.
Coach just a bit of trivia. I played chess in college. Our team from Adamson University played matches with Far Eastern University (FEU), National University (NU), University of Santo Tomas (UST), and Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT). UST and MIT had very good players. We couldn't beat them. It has been a long time ago around 1960. It was not an organized league. We just played for love of the game. Each team fielded at least 15 players. I was board #5. The Filipino great chess players at the time later became members of the 1974 Team Philippines that played in the Olympiad. We were in awe of of this group of players. If I remember right the first Filipino IM was the great Rodolfo Tan Cardoso. Filipino-American writing from Virginia, USA.
Coach another trivia = Back around 1960, IM Rodolfo Tan Cardoso was generous enough with his time and came down to Adamson University. He played against 20 of us simultaneously. He lost one game. I won that game. We considered him generous because he had to come by himself - we didn't pick him up. He did not get compensated. All we paid him with was a lot of "Thank yous". We were students and we didn't have money. But we were full of enthusiasm. He was very cheerful. It is one display of kindness that a couple of years later, we who participated in the simultaneous games couldn't stop talking about his generosity. Filipino-American writing from Virginia, USA.
Legendary ilonggo chess players!!! GM Torre from Jaro, Iloilo City. GM Rosendo Balinas from Bacolod city, Neg. Occ.
Rosendo Balinas was invited to play at Odessa where he topped the tournament. The only none Russian to ever have done it then! And that it is where he got his GM title.
@@diosdadoapias no doubt! That's how he got into the chess hall of fame being the first Asian Grand Master. Balinas would be 2nd. Sayang si Ruben Rodriguez hindi nag GM. Ruben won the US chess open. Forgot what year.
yes , he was good.. two of his sons were also good especially Ponce., Odie was good too.. Winnie played but was content in helping out during tournaments..
