As an organist, I used to dislike Stradal's arrangement intensely. It starts very beautifully, but around half-way Stradal 'fills in' Bach's harmony with rising figures in thirds (they are implied but not present in Bach's original), and most pianists feel obliged to bang out these additions fortissimo, obliterating Bach's counterpoint. Jaap Eilander's performance is the first I have heard which gets the balance right, you can hear every note Bach wrote, and Stradal's additions do serve to point up the harmony not overwhelm it. Thank you !
Equality of parts respected. Love your mordents at c 4:30 ff. All sorts of delights here: your touch is spot on. Everyone else makes the piano too Brahmsesque; all dark Viennese chocolate and cigars. You expound the sense of loss and hope in equal parts, which is Bach. He had no need to shout. Many many thanks.

Great piece of music this transcription, wich is not an easy to play as it seems. A masterful example of Bach's genius and how simplicity is not by any means something easy to perform. The Stradal transcription gives another character to the piece, more dramatic and with a little melancholic touch that the original doesn't have, which I please very much. Since Vikingur Ólafrsson we can compare every version available with his'. And this have some differences. The first and most recognizable feature is audio take. This was recorded in an empty concert hall, and that's something devastating for any performer, as clearly this shows. I remember when Nikolaus Harnoncourt express in an interview that the concert form as we now must change and it was probably living its last days in his lifetime. The pandemic show us how clearly he was right, even though he was thinking in other thing. This devastating empty concert hall affect the sound and the flow of music itself, as clearly anyone can detected at 02:25, 02:44, 03:04, 03:55, 03:59, 04:03, and 04:25 to 04:32. Nevertheless, this is an absolute masterpiece from wich no one would tired to listen.
Personally I have no problem with the added sustain due to the empty hall. Quite contrary, I think when this piece is played on the piano the longer sustain suits more.
@@dcytol He refers to Stradal's transcription. Bach's masterpiece and Stradal's mastertranscription. Stradal's as he describes gives a different character, which I totally coincide.

Such a beautiful piece. Does anyone else have trouble hearing the essence of Bach in this? To me this presents a new dimension to his music. I can't compare it to any other Bach piece. Can anyone else say " Oh yes, this reminds me of his .....( please fill in the blank).
Bach era un manipulador extremo. Un manipulador de las emociones y sensaciones, capaz de sacudir las capas mas profundas del alma. Es el mejor manipulador que conozco
Absolutely gorgeous interpretation of the organ sonata! You enunciate all the powerful yet subtle nuances at the end of the piece that others don’t seem to know what to do with and end up getting muddled. Thank you, sir and thank you, Mr. Bach.😭
@@jaapeilander Hello again / it will be nice When do you have time to check my piano Channel too to be in Touch 🥰 for Feedback how i do … See you soon my friend 🥰
I bought the Stradal version of BWV528 thanks to you. Beautiful, I find it a little difficult after just playing Satie and Glass, but I hope I can dedicate some months with discipline (any tips?). Thank you for the inspiration!

Thanks! Maybe coms variation 25 of the Goldberg a little bit close?
Bach is easily transcribed to any instrument and any style. He himself did many transcriptions of others’ works for organ.
sublime
What elegant hands you have!
Beautiful. Always beautiful music 🎹 Thanks
Thanks for this. Clarity and beauty

After listening to Olafsson’s performance of this piece, your interpretation using Stradal’s transcription is refreshing and enlightening. Dank je!

Grande peça do imenso Bach que fica melhor ainda na versão de Stradal para o piano, e o pianista é muito bom tecnicamente. Parabéns!
superb! I shall subscribe on you )))
Thanks
Na de Siciliano flute sonata no. 2 ben ik deze gaan leren. Deze vind ik ook prachtig
Succes!
Waar was de triller om en nabij 4:33?? Maar goed gedaan. Blijft prachtig!

I prefer your version than Olafsson’s.. Great performance.
Thanks!
So do I. I hear Bach here. And the tone and clarity are exemplary. I'd love to hear more of this pianist. Beautiful playing.
Beautiful performance - but poor recording, the sound is unfortunately clipping several times. Maybe it was badly prepared for streaming.
Another too slow performance. But at least this is played like Bach and not a Romantic heavily pedaled piano piece.
Thanks Darren
