  • Just a little talk-through of this one - Been asked about this beat quite a bit by students in the sessions here, it’s a fairly simple bit of Grade 1/Grade 2-style coordination, but a really interesting groove musically.
    Groove originally played by Will Champion from Coldplay.
    Have fun and please let me know if any questions,
    Mike :)

    Ha, loved it. Finally no chit chat like in others drum teching videos but a plain peace of quick explanation!

    Thank you so much for this. I used it to practice making drum loops in a DAW I’m learning and it was really helpful.

    Does it help to count the hi hat and ride hits as 1-2-3 1-2-3 1-2 (each bar) for a beginner to learn to accent in the right spot, or would you consider this a bad habit to learn.

    • @MikeBarnesDrums
      @MikeBarnesDrums  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You could do that! I personally like developing the habit of clearly stating beats 1,2,3 and 4, which I find really helps drummers as they progress and things get more complicated. So I'd advise that - ultimately the choice is yours though, have fun whatever you do. Cheers!

    What level would you put this at? I am beginner (4 months) and I simply can't crack the bass! Not too bad slowed down (withh VLC Player) but full 130 BPM, no way. Lucky Apple Juice finding it easy! :-)

      Antony Keeble Thanks for watching Anthony! Like I say in the intro probably a Grade 2, but if you have just been playing for 4 months I can see how the kick part would be tricky! Just keep building your skills and you’ll get there. If you need a little video about bass drum technique I have one here:

      Cheers Anthony!

      @@MikeBarnesDrums Thanks Mike. My parents always said I should listen more... didn't pick up on the Level 2 mentioned in the video! Makes me feel better too :-) I will definitely persist, and celebrate when I finally crack 'Clocks'.
