Soon I Will Be Done

As part of Make Music Day, Andrew Peters plays Calvin Taylor’s setting of the spiritual “Soon I Will Be Done” on the Reuter pipe organ at Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver. On this date in 1821 the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church was formally established in New York City. The nineteen clergy present that day represented African American churches from Newark, New Haven, New York, and Philadelphia.
