Formats not too bad with the narration over the top. It can be a bit hard to see what you are actually doing at times, but I'm sure it saves you time in post production. Good job on both boards :)
In my Hakko-ish desoldering gun clone, I filled the the clear vacuum chamber with randomly interlocked springs to reduce solder accumulation on its walls and on the filter. Doesn't impede air flow. Got the idea from some other video. Springs came from a cheap Harbor Freight spring assortment. I own the same LCR meter.
Glad you put heat shrink on the legs of the radial caps :) I'm working on an Asteroids board where they did not do that and as you know, on Atari boards, the traces do not have solder mask on them, so the cap legs can short to the trace they go over...
I'd have to say I greatly prefer the old format where can actually see more of what is going on, esp. board and scope views. The last two (this one and the one more recent) have been a lot harder to follow what's being done and a lot of the time (on these first two new-format videos at least) the board is out of frame so can't see it at all. The voice-overs are helpful though.
Also, I'm curious why you replaced the voltage regulators on the game PCB and the ARII board except the big bottlecap one, is it more stable/less prone to issues than the other four? I've binge watched a lot of the other vids on the channel and don't recall hearing a previous explanation about it. Apologies if it's been asked/answered many times before.
Lastly, for gameplay vids of monitors in "portrait" style games, is it not possible to just pivot the camera mount on the tripod 90 degrees so don't have to worry about moving the monitor chassis yet still have a 'right side up' camera view?
Thank you very much for all these wonderful videos from someone who doesn't have the time/space/finances/etc. to keep a bunch of games in their home, or maintain them if I did.
Would an open cap show in circuit?
I imagine most caps are in parallel between 5v & gnd. (I’m not familiar with the schematic). Wouldn’t the other caps hide the one with problems, as you are effectively measuring between the same 5v and gnd rails most of the time.
I assume I’m wrong, I’m just trying to fit it into my mental model of things.
@@mikeh_nz you are looking for an erroneous reading… The circuit might allow for a path so that you see some kind of ESR… But after you’ve done it long enough, you will just know when you see something that’s not right
