    I had a comment from elsewhere I'd post here:
    "Nice to see the Imperial College vehicles out in force in the unusually fine weather. From 20:15, registration AW 38 'Boanerges', a 1902 James and Browne, belonging to City & Guilds College Union, is an official entrant in the run. Five on board and in top gear. Supporting acts tagging along for the ride, were Royal College of Science Union's Dennis fire engine 'Jezebel' at 26:34, and Royal School Of Mines Union's Morris commercial 'Clementine' at 27:18."

    Used to live 100 yds from this junction in Cuckfield. Back then we drove to the A23 junction at Bolney to watch the veteran cars every year.

      I walk to this junction. One year I didn't watch but drove to Wickes to get something in my Triumph 2500 PI and got lots of waves from spectators on what was a regular journey. Made me laugh!

    Good spot! Saw many of these cars the previous day at the Regent Street Motor Show.

    I love how modern a 20s or 30s car looks when compared to this veteran era cars.

      Very much so, though some of the cars of that era looks spectacular. I try to do a film every year of the Veteran car run.

    Excellent well-positioned effort Benedict, also showing the not so old but interesting cars not on the run but just out enjoying the day !

    Nicely done , a perfect spot. But so many vetran car drivers never slow down before coming to this small but busy roudabout and they all drive tot fast .and where are the stewards??

      Not really, you can see clearly past the roundabout and the only people who would have right of way would be turning right on the other side of the road.

      Many thanks. Frustration with motorists... Now edited.... Though it will take some time to have an effect.

    Brilliant, cheers Benedict. Fully crewed fire engine was the highlight for me, did those lads spend the whole 50 miles perched on the edge like that?

    • @BensWorkshop
      @BensWorkshop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea... They were not going slow enough for me to ask! :)

      We did worse than just sit on there for 50 miles because once we got to Brighton we turned round and did the return journey the same day mostly in the dark! As did the Morris T-Type at 27:24 as both vehicles are owned by Imperial College union and are kept there in South Kensington.

      You were on Jezibel? Or the truck? I understand from someone who has driven the fire engine that when changing up you need to apply the flywheel brake or you throw students off the back. From 20:15, registration AW 38 is 'Boanerges', a 1902 James and Browne also owned by Imperial.
      Please like, share and if you like the channel subscribe! (Also there's last years run, a shorter video on here.) Next year I will take extra batteries. I'll also try harder not to swear at normal drivers as editing it out is a pain particularly after upload.

      I was on Jezebel the whole way down to Brighton and on Clementine (the Morris) for most of the journey back, driving one leg in three in either direction. The flywheel brake does indeed engage if you press the clutch down more than half way but doesn't noticeably slow Jez at all. It is simply to stop the input of the gearbox from spinning when trying to select first gear from stationary to avoid the gears crunching. The transmission brake however is very effective at stopping Jez and unsuspecting students may be thrown forward if suddenly applied! We try not to use the transmission brake though as it is designed only as an emergency brake and it does put excessive wear on the box joints. You're correct about that being Bo! We follow him down every year but he doesn't drive back, he gets a lift on a trailer. Bo does get a lot of use but not quite as much as the 1000+ mile/year that Jez and Clem get!
