I never liked Max. But even though I am not a fan, I would be delusional if I couldn't admit that he currently destroys the competition by sheer racing craft. I bet that paired with any driver in any car, he would dominate every team mate currently available. He's just that good.

You make solid videos, but You are off the mark, if you think that. Max is just smart. How can he be so accepted by all, if he wasn´t. They all give in to what he says, even when he did display immaturity. You just cannot run the same lane as someone smarter, and keep up. Surely you see that IRL, and it was the same when Schumacher was truly a bro with Mika, and Mika knew, Michael was a bit better.
There is the second most talented guy being LeClerc, and he cannot hang with Max. How good are they, when you see Max winning Iracing and Rfactor2 races against profesionals, emulating what he does IRL, and driving within margins that the other drivers, including Norris, just laugh at in a way "he just does that, anyway, we try to hang, I´m doing good, and it is what it is".
Nobody except for Schumacher and Clark was naturally as good as Verstappen. Now, I believe in everyone, but there is the issue of limited time, trying to do things "better than expected", having dreams and breaking stigma, and hubris, being inspired, and having the means and time to do things.
To cut through that, you need to do the right things, and for that, you need intelligence, and Max is the smartest on the grid, and the most talented of his generation among those who made it into F1. @@mregbef1 Even when you are gifted, and given things, you are the one at the helm of breaking through hubris for everybody. Sometimes, some exceptionally charged regulars can do what others would not believe they could, like Senna. He was among the twitchiest, least gifted drivers Ever, but as far as his person, he has overcome and stared death in the face more, and his interests were in line with that. He has thrown his weights off the most, but that doesn´t mean he was some godly talented driver, even when he was winning. making others think you are almost ready to kill them, so they back off, isn´t about being better.
Nobody has driven the miles he did, and for all the others, it was a rich guy venture, and they were privilieged more than him, for them it was their "familial thing", where they could not understand his drive to near kill himselfm and them aswell. He just could not explain, or be talked to, that would dull him. He did "expose", how they didn´t go and try hard enough, as he has shown he could match and beat them, but he always carried extra risk, and twitch, that went beyond being precise, he was more on the edge, but as far as having nuance, he was among the worst, and only failed drivers and Tsunoda can match him.
Max has similiarly simple lifestyle, but atleast people do not suffer around him nearly as much. Senna has made it clear, he will go as hard as can, and crash anyone who is willing to try and match him. He has barged his way into F1. When he didn´t have a great car, he was nowhere to be seen. He was great. I can recognise he was different.
But the car could have been driven better than what he had shown- the sport just wasn´t that sophisticated. When People look "UP" at F1, they understandably put practice and menacing aura on the same level of influence, as being talented, and in control, and do not see how perfectly setup his car was, or how he rode the line so bad, that other, mnore talented, even though as far "as proving they are better", more hubris full drivers, would see he was driving like a mad man.
There are reasons, why his own reasoning and habits were always receding, and why he had to grind as he did. Mansell was about the best driver, but he has never tried to make it work like him, Senna demanded ideas from engineers, and made them do endless mental passes as far as setup. To Senna, it was do or die, and he made his team do it. I am not saying he was a psycho, but he was deeply compartmentalized, and possesed with winning, and was always a dangerous driver. To the outside, "it looks spectacular", but still, there were reasons for the dissent, and people doubting his "motives", even then.
You know, the differences between dudes chatting on the net and the drivers are as small as between any fans and celebs. It is what it is. Some still made it work, like Dwayne Johnson, or the majority of sports stars, who have common mental capabilities. When Max doesn´t hold other´s hands, he dissappears, and others try to emulate him. When he does something they, or even most deem "dangerous", there is more complacency of their own, and the public, than personal inability/ bad priorites and opportunism from him.
When they try to attack his approach, or berate him, they eventually are left speechless, yet not angry. He just shows there is more to it.
It is the same as trying to one up "the asshole nerd" at school, only to realize they do all you do, and more, and you are just fighting mirages.

It depends. In fairness to his teammates it needs to be noted that the car is basically developed exclusively for his driving style. It's an extremely impressive style, but in a car less suited for it he would not beat everyone. If for example the car would be favored towards the late breaking style drivers like Ricciardo or Perez it would be a lot closer.
It's funny how these things sort of come and go in cycles.

@@Argosh I tend to agree with you, but on the other hand, if Max and Carlos switch places right now, who do you think will win the WDC? My bet will be on Carlos. I remember in 2016 when Nico won the WDC against Lewis. He managed to do that, exclusively because he was fully supported by the team, because by pure race craft, he`s not better than Lewis. The car, the driver and the team is the complete package, but just a good driver can win the WDC if he has a superior car and team (Jenson and Nico). There have been multiple cases in which a legendary driver couldn`t win without a superior car and team. So, in my opinion the driver is only about 20% of the total package, the rest is the car and the team.

“It’s the car” is such an overused piece of copium, it’s actually ridiculous at this point. Like, no shit the car is good (you need that to compete for titles in this sport), but they somehow forget that the team runs *two* cars.
Barring differences in specifications (which I am aware is NOT the case for RBR at least last season), it’s the differences in driver performance that often makes up the majority of the difference in pace between the two. It’s not a coincidence that Max has delivered the sheer bulk of the team’s points last season whilst Checo almost got beaten to P2 by Hamilton driving a much slower Mercedes.

I think these drivers are hated due to misplaced frustration. People hate the dominance, not the driver. Very often, a few fans even say “it’s not Lewis’ fault he’s driving so well.” The fact is that the dominant driver has an advantage to win knowing almost every driver on the grid doesn’t have a chance. The dominant driver’s race also seems easier since they are up front, battle less, have clean air, form a 20+ second gap and have a monster car with high reliability.

_ Vettel: Was hated especially by Alonso fans. And very disliked for his finger ☝🏼 when he got pole or the win. His finger was a real mark of arrogance.
_ Hamilton: Probably the most hated driver of modern F1. It is a white dominate sport, fans support people they can recognize themselves to. Lewis' skin color contributed a lot from the hate. He got a lot of hate for making his wins look easy after spending the whole week partying with models, Neymar or Will Smith, people calling him a fraud by saying "it's just the car". Finally he got a lot of hate for actually having real competition and proving he is the greatest of his era having real adversity for the majority of his success (teammates, championship fights). He got a lot of hate from Alonso fans, Ferrari fans, RedBull fans, Verstappen fans, and Schumacher fans.

Then in 2022 Ferrari put up about as much of challenge as they did in 2017,2018. 2023 is when he actually had a dominant car. And it was really only dominant in the race, qualifying you could beat it. 2024 seems like later in the season Ferrari will be winning races too. So quite confused on what you mean dominant car?

I don't mind someone being dominant. But man don't be winning every race by a large margin. The reason Australia was interesting was not just sainz but I was rooting for albon to get points. Disappointed he didn't but it was a good drive. But I mean if there has been a few more laps then leclerc would have caught sainz and won. I just want to see good racing. If the same person is winning by 20 seconds every time then it becomes boring and I dont want to watch no more. Lol
There really is no solution either. I would like to see Max step out of F1 and go do some lmp and super GT stuff irl. Or just put him in a different car on the grid. Cause I have a suspicion that he may be able to dominate in other cars that other people would never have a chance in. He may actually be the best driver on the planet. Max is not even on the same level as anyone else. he isn't competitive. all he does is go for a casual drive around the course and finishes so far ahead that he may as well not have even been part of the race. so idk what to tell you. i don't mind if he wins. just that he does so without trying. with no effort. he wins by margins that makes the entire sport look bad. he wins by a margin that makes nascar look like a better competition than F1

It is not just the car, it is also the Fia cheating and creating rules to prevent your rivals from competing. Slap in the engine freeze. Put on top of that, rear wings that doesn't give the rear tyres ground force for rear end grip. Place in ground effect that adds more rear instability for a particular team like Mercedes who can't sort that fundamental issue out as they can't change their engine size or placement as it would require a new engine design which isn't allowed under the engine freeze development rule...thus it makes sure the late braker can't do his job and late brake anymore, this Max thing could continue well into 2026.

Why they planned to freeze the engines?? So the teams can focus on new 2026 engine instead of looking for a next new upgrade on a current engine which would remove focus from 2026 engine and keep them in that endless cycle of upgrading the engine.
All Red Bull did is asked for that engine freeze to be moved one year earlier for 2022.
And FIA and ALL THE TEAMS INCLUDING MERCEDES agreed.
You know when it was decided to be moved? 11tg of February 2021 almost a full month before 2021 f1 season.
