MAC was everything in the 90s. I still have a foundation pan from their Professional line. It was a thick pan makeup with such high coverage, for the first time we stage actors could ditch like Ben Nye and clown makeup brands. They made the first truly high pigment lipsticks and shadows, again out with clown makeup brands that stained and irritated eyes. MAC deserves so much credit and I hope they update themselves.
Agreed. They pioneered everything we take for granted now, I think. Makeup tools that weren't from an art store or theatrical supply house that were actually made for makeup artists. I mean did people even use brushes for eyeshadow before mac? Foundation that had lots of shade and a sensible way of classifying shades that is STILL the industry standard. Their foundations are still very good and stand up to the competition, even though they're expensive, they are actually a bargain compared to luxury brands. Their primers and setting sprays are excellent. Their eyehadows that had actual pigment and payoff and lasted longer than a few hours. They brought pro makeup to the regular consumers and they invented the idea of the passionate amateur make-up hobbyist.I don't buy as much from MAC and I think they have had very lackluster collections, but I still stan Mac.
The only lipstick formula that works in my lips is mac. I love their blushes and lipstick. Not to forget they usually come up with most sought after highlights

If you have a favorite eye shadow or especially lipstick, send them the tube or compact and they'll duplicate the color for you. They'll keep the "formula" in their archives. They've been around since the 90's. They have a discontinued shades list from Mac (Bardot lip color), Chanel, Lancome, etc. threecustomcolor.com. I've been able to have my fav m/u shades saved and it can be re-created! :)
Even when I was a starving student, I'd save up to buy lancome foundation and I used it every day. Everything else could come from the drugstore (especially mascara) but my skin had to look good!
I totally agree that the Natasha Denona I need a nude lipsticks are so underrated. The formula is so good, the packaging too. I wish she’d come out with more, like a I need a red line with like all different undertones and stuff of red

But the opposite happens when they are like it's good just need to build up color I get all excited because it will be good for me.

I was so glad to hear how much you love the Estée Lauder Futurist foundation. I use Estée Lauder skincare, and have for years, and so has my 87 year old mom. I’ve used Double Wear, Perfectionist and Re-Nutriv, and I love how their shades match perfectly with my skin tone. I really loved the Re-Nutriv, which is their most expensive but also has the Re-Nutriv skincare that I use, but I heard that they reformulated it, and the coverage isn’t as good. So I’m thinking about trying the Futurist. Thanks for sharing the brand information with us, it’s so helpful with so many out there!
I bought the MAC skin refined zone because of you and it became an instant holy grail / daily user product for me. It is amazing on my combo skin with pores/oil around my nose. I’ll never stop buying it now.
I love MAC and always will. Collections aside, their products are really good. And yes, they’ve always had an amazing, super-inclusive foundation range, long before many brands even thought about putting foundation shades darker than tan.
Mel! You may not see this,but I wanted to write you just in case. I live in Franklin, TN. I was at Greenhills Mall today and thought of you several times. First of course when I was in the Louis Vuitton Store.😊I then went to Nordstorm. I was so shocked to see that it looks like they are phasing out the MAC department!! Worse than that Hourglass was taking up at least half of the space. I have loved MAC since the 90's. I bought the oil refine product on your recommendation over a year ago. My esthetician can't believe the difference when I get my monthly hydro facials. No blackheads. I also started using the Neulash and Neubrow serum about 8 months ago. I have had NO brows for 40 years. They are growing in bushy and I actually need to trim them now and use your favorite brow gel. My lashes are thick and long. I too get asked about my mascara or if I have extensions. Thank you for all your hard work on your videos and content. I'm trying to find a color that I can use in the Estee Lauder Futurist, but I'm having a hard time. They don't make the shade I used in Double wear. Thanks again.
All I had back in the day was MAC. I still have 6-7 brushes that are over 15 years old now. I still love the studio fix fluid foundation, fix plus, and most recently the glow play. But I think they need to do some type of change, just not sure what.
I love their Pro Longwear foundation, but I hated the Studio Fix - somehow it looked and felt horrible on me. I guess it works differently for everyone.
Love their fix + and yeah I don’t know what they need to do. Every time they try to do some gimmicky it falls flat. But they have the perfect pinky nude in blankety and no matter what I buy I always go back to it. They did do a great job on those highlight palettes. Called “get real” maybe. Something like that. They had the light one with a champagne look and a darker one gold and they are perfect!!!!

I purchased the Mac prep + prime skin refined zone treatment because of you Mel. It comes in handy on my T zone in the summertime. I watch my son play baseball and this product helps my makeup stay in place in 90+ degrees weather.
I wish they would bring back the Charlotte Tilbury Fire Rose palette. I want it so badly! A few years ago I bought the Green quad from her and I was so disappointed. I didnt like the formula. You have convinced me to try her more recent products.
Hi Mel. I’m really glad to hear someone talk about Mac being so inclusive. Toronto where Mac is from is the most culturally diverse city in the world and regardless of if MAC is presently in vogue or no I do think that they were trailblazers in a lot of ways back in the day- It would be great for them to do all of the things that more fairly represent the quality and diversity that the brand offers-I got off the train with everyone else but it doesn’t have anything to do with the quality-probably at the same time we changed over from singles to palettes. Ps those ND Nudes are just the very best

Quick question for you: I bought the Milk Boss liner and while I love it, I find it to be very difficult to remove - there are still black smudges that appear on my face the next day. This is such a great video! It's because of you that my husband surprised me with the Aspyn Ovard palette. He even paid double on ebay for it. I need to pull it back out and start using it again. So subtle, great for a quick eye look. MAC used to be my go to makeup brand, but since I only use cruelty free now, they are no longer an option. This was so much fun. I completely agree about Mac being underrated. I use so many of their products, they’re staples in my routine that I use everyday and the quality is outstanding. If they discontinue skin refined zone I’ll be devastated. I agree with everything you said about it. I feel like I need to order some backups just in case they discontinue it. I also feel like Mac has been inclusive with their shade ranges for years, way before Fenty. I hope people give Mac more credit and I’m praying they can make a comeback because they’re one of my favorite brands. I wonder if you got a bad Le Volume de Chanel because mine doesn’t clump on me at all. I went through a whole tube of it and opened a new one last week and both are great.

I worked for Chanel for over 10 years and have a “collection” of products and the formulas have definitely changed. For example the new Soleil Tan de Chanel is a completely different formula and not a better one. The concealer is a little dryer formula also and the ingredients are different. I think the line changed and not for better when Peter Phillips left and went to Dior. He is an AMAZING creative director/Artist. The Dior Forever concealer formula is amazing and so is the new eyeshadow formula. P.S. You just made me buy the Viseart palette. 🤣

Hi Mel. I’m really glad to hear someone talk about Mac being so inclusive. Toronto where Mac is from is the most culturally diverse city in the world and regardless of if MAC is presently in vogue or no I do think that they were trailblazers in a lot of ways back in the day- It would be great for them to do all of the things that more fairly represent the quality and diversity that the brand offers-I got off the train with everyone else but it doesn’t have anything to do with the quality-probably at the same time we changed over from singles to palettes. Ps those ND Nudes are just the very best

I absolutely love the Estée Lauder futurist. I am on my 4th one because of your initial recommendation! I also love the Aspyn Ovard palette. I should have gotten a back up! And CT is def my favorite luxury brand.

Your lighting and audio is ideal and makes your videos next level. Also wanted to mention that you are a great dresser and it is fun to see what you are wearing each time. Even your most casual t-shirts and sweatshirts are designer pieces. Quick question for you: I bought the Milk Boss liner and while I love it, I find it to be very difficult to remove - there are still black smudges that appear on my face the next day. This is such a great video! It's because of you that my husband surprised me with the Aspyn Ovard palette. He even paid double on ebay for it. I need to pull it back out and start using it again. So subtle, great for a quick eye look.
MAC used to be my go to makeup brand, but since I only use cruelty free now, they are no longer an option.

I completely agree about Mac being underrated. I use so many of their products, they’re staples in my routine that I use everyday and the quality is outstanding. If they discontinue skin refined zone I’ll be devastated. I agree with everything you said about it. I feel like I need to order some backups just in case they discontinue it. I also feel like Mac has been inclusive with their shade ranges for years, way before Fenty. I hope people give Mac more credit and I’m praying they can make a comeback because they’re one of my favorite brands. I wonder if you got a bad Le Volume de Chanel because mine doesn’t clump on me at all. I went through a whole tube of it and opened a new one last week and both are great.

I worked for Chanel for over 10 years and have a “collection” of products and the formulas have definitely changed. For example the new Soleil Tan de Chanel is a completely different formula and not a better one. The concealer is a little dryer formula also and the ingredients are different. I think the line changed and not for better when Peter Phillips left and went to Dior. He is an AMAZING creative director/Artist. The Dior Forever concealer formula is amazing and so is the new eyeshadow formula.
P.S. You just made me buy the Viseart palette. 🤣
