    "You got little branches on your head"
    Those are my gills. I need them to breathe. Underwater.

    Fun Fact: Axolotls can actually lose their gills permanently when they change into an adult. Normally, they just permanently keep their juvenile appearance when growing up and never change into a salamander form, but if they live in bad water conditions with little oxygen, they can actually change into an adult salamander form and with that lose their gills permanently.

    For all the animal hybrid audios, axolotl is a new one.
    A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

    why do i have a feeling (if there will be more videos about these two) that it is going to be revealed that the listener wasn't meant to be released yet and whoever is making the hybrids is currently hunting them down, amazing video as always scratch.

    If I recall correctly axolotl quite literally don’t have eyes and can basically reevolve from amphibian to salamander but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong

    • @Fryebox3
      @Fryebox3 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      they can under certain conditions 😼

    • @Verid1st

      Well, no. Axolotl do have eyes. Nothing as impressive as anime girls but they are there for sure. Also, you're mismatching words a little. Amphibian is a class in taxonomy of animals that contains frogs, toads, salamanders and such. Salamanders are just one group in amphibian class. What you are referring to is metamorphosis, a process amphibians usually undergo before reaching adulthood which means going from larval stadium to adult form. What's unique about axolotl is that they can perform neoteny - they can breed in their larval stadium without the need to reach adulthood. Axolotl with "branches", which in reality are its gills, is actually a larva. As Frydebox3 mentioned, they can undergo metamorphosis and reach adulthood under certain conditions - they lose their gills in the process and can go on land afterwards but since they are able to breed as a larva, that's rather rare condition.

      Axolotls have eyes, what you’re thinking of is an Olm

    • @Deleted-zx2ks
      @Deleted-zx2ks 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      There is something similar to an axolotl that doesn't have eyes, they're called olm's. They look similar to axolotls, just a bit different.

    • @Verid1st
      @Verid1st 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@Deleted-zx2ks Yup, olms live in underground waters so they have no need for sight. Still, they can react to light changes, avoiding illuminated areas. They also do not lose gills after metamorphosis.

    Unique hybrid? For sure. But, ummm, I don't think I'd like to be one. See, those "branches" might look cute and all but for axolotl they are gills. You know, thingies for underwater breathing. And in order to work they must be kept submerged or at least wet otherwise they get damaged. Imagine running around with a spray bottle to keep your "hair" wet at all times. Also, gills are present only in larval form which might mean that listener is a kiddo and shouldn't be drinking. Yea, sure, axolotl can stay in the larval form indefinitely thanks to neoteny but it still leaves air of immaturity around the listener 😉 And finally, a friend of mine who kept axolotl as a pet, kept calling it "smiling condom" - not a name I'd like to "inherit" from my animal part....

      @@ScratcheffVA Yes. When, or rather - if they reach maturity aka undergo metamorphosis, they lose their gills and move from aquatic to terrestrial environment.
