Christmas Eve/Christmas is more of a general couple's holiday in Japan. Valentine's Day is when girls give guys chocolate, and White Day (March 14) is when the guys who got chocolate return the favor.
You guys totally misinterpreted what Ichikawa meant when he told his inner thoughts to go away. He wasn't brushing away his negativity. He was brushing away any hope that Yamada liked him. He makes excuses about her behavior because he believes there is absolutely no way she could like someone like him. He doesn't want to get his hopes up only to have her not return his feelings and totally crush him. This is why he continues to keep a cautious distance from her despite his feelings for her. I think he's been very clear on that up until this point
actually he did not say a, in japanese that character is A but is moreso read as "Aaa", so yeah my man just said "aaa" as the first message which is really cute if you ask me.
4:31 An explanation of Adachi's "you want to date your sister" joke: it's a misleading question using wordplay Japanese: "Ne, chanto yatteru?" ("Hey, are you doing it right?") "Nee-chan to yatteru?" ("Are you doing your sister?") English: "You ever check if your sys is up to date?" "You ever check if your sis(ter) is 'up to date'?" (aka "Do you ever ask your sister if she's willing to date you?") And Ichikawa was so focused on saying "I do (use LINE)" that he accidentally agreed with Adachi's question.
@@lunarAureola agreed. Must be quite tough to find just the right words for a pun in an entirely different language. I still remember how they did Connie’s “Eren’s house is eaves-dropping!” pun which was next to impossible because of the similar sound house and Jaegar in Japanese and can’t be replicated in English.
Probably someone already pointed that out, the first message that ichikawa is read "Kyo" like his name Kyotaro, is kindaa Joke with his name and saying "hi" in the text
0:55 she is not new to it. She just was lying to that guy. The whole joke was her lies were so absurd that no one would believe her. She said something like "soul shall me deeya" and then said she just communicates with her friends through telepathy. These are obvious lies. She has always had Line. She did not want to share it with that guy. Line is nearly as common as phones in Japan. It is their standard way of texting and calling each other. It's not like having an Instagram account or something.
if you want a recommendation, Kimi ni todoke is also a really wholesome anime. The original episodes keep up with time. but as everyone else said here, it will only get better.
16:37 I agree that ppl play games in relationships or before relationships form. I would not say that what he is doing is the same. He has no interest in how it makes him look or if it will make Yamada like him more or be more desperate for him. He is purely trying to defend himself. It's a completely different thing than the dumb social games ppl play to try to elevate themselves. He isn't playing hard to get. He is playing "I guess I never wanted it, so it's not so bad how poorly things turned out". It's completely different psychologically.
Yet is a crucial keyword here because it just kept getting better

Appreciate the explanation 👍
Ohhh cool, didn't realize that.
Basically, it's the Japanese middle school version of "Spell I CUP"
i am honestly impressed that they managed to localize the joke while still keeping the same vibe xd
