      I highly agree these two should've won already. I see they have given Samuel L. Jackson a Lifetime Achievement award but he should've won for "Pulp Fiction". For Cooper, it looked like "A Star is Born" looked like a strong shot for a win.

    Every time the Oscars come around, I’m always hoping Harrison Ford is picked for the Honorary Oscar. I’ve always considered the Honorary Oscar to be more impressive than a competitive one. There are many actors that have given A great performance, but the Honorary Oscar says that your whole career is worth honoring. Either way, Ford needs an Oscar of some kind. His whole body of work is amazing. The man is an absolute legend!

    • @sarasamaletdin4574
      @sarasamaletdin4574 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I don’t know if it’s more impressive, but it’s great for people who have been missed by Academy if their best work is from genre films like with Ford. He would have been better choice than Bassett now due to his age (and Bassett could still win a competitive one) and that he has big moment now with Indiana Jones.

      @@sarasamaletdin4574The Academy just needs to stop waiting until actors are over 80 to award them…60-70 really seems more like the prime time to award it…Also, Bassett’s chances of winning competitively are not as high irregardless of age. It took 30 years for her to even be considered a 2nd time around…She’s been regulated mainly to supporting roles and really has not had the best options role wise. I would like to believe that is partially why she is being awarded this year. Someone also mentioned Glenn Close being a better choice…However, the difference is Close is still getting good roles and is being seen by the Academy. IMO she also has a better shot at winning competitively as well.

    • @samuelbarber6177
      @samuelbarber6177 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He might win one this year. After all, he won an Honorary Award at Cannes, and given the Academy’s recent track record they’re probably going to nominate John Williams for Best Original Score and he also has a Marvel film set for 2024, so it’s possible that Ford will be picked for the Honorary this year.
      To be honest, I don’t really think he needs an Oscar that much. He’s proved himself time and again to be an absolute legend, and it’s clear he’s won the vast majority of moviegoers over, being probably one of the most popular actors of all time, at least of the last fifty years, which is more important than any Award.

    You said it best, Bryan, when you said that he's taken for granted. I think because his screen and off screen personas are so much alike, and that his biggest hits are in the action/adventure genre, he would have to have a Theron/De Niro/Oldman type of physical and dramatic transformation in order for the Academy to see him in a way that they'd want to finally award him.

    • @spice_krispies
      @spice_krispies ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Same could be said about Stallone. Although he's won a Golden Globe for Creed as Rocky, his persona from the character is very similar just like Ford's is from his roles. Stallone is a hell of a dramatic actor but doesnt get cast in that genre enough. Ford plays Ford, just like DeNiro plays DeNiro, Pacino plays Pacino, Nicholson plays Nicholson......I could go on and on.

    I think The Fugitive might be the closest thing to an Oscar nomination for Ford, given that he got a Golden Globe nomination and the film was nominated for Seven Oscars including Best Picture and winning an Oscar for Tommy Lee Jones for Best Supporting Actor. By the way, you are wrong about Presumed Innocent, that film did very well with critics and at the box office the year of it's release and it was ranked 8th of the Top Ten Highest Grossing Films of 1990.

    During Blade Runner 2049, there was an Oscar buzz for Harrison Ford quite a short period time, but sadly since the movie officially flop that buzz was also over suddenly, so it shifted to the Roger Deakins’s first Oscar conversation instead.
    I bet if the film did well in BO, maybe we could see Ford getting Best Supporting Actor nom with this. His facial expression when Deckard remembering Rachel is just powerful and gut-punching in the same time. ❤️

    Great video. Ford is one of my favorite actors and I think at the very least he should have had 2 or 3 nominations by now this far into his career. The Fugitive definitely deserved one without a doubt, but one could make a case for other performances like The Mosquito Coast, 42, Presumed Innocent, etc. The only thing I would change is when you said Presumed Innocent only did okay with critics and audiences when in fact it was one of the top ten box office hits of 1990 and did pretty well with critics. It has an 80-something percent on Rotten Tomatoes I believe.

    Ford's laconic, laid back acting style probably has played against him from a critical acceptance standpoint. He's always great in every role, but he rarely has that scene that makes one think 'Oscar!' I was going to compare his style to Gary Cooper (which might be considered ridiculous because Cooper won 2 Oscars), but perhaps it is a very accurate assessment of how today's most versatile actors (DeNiro, DiCaprio, Phoenix, Oldman, Washington, etc.) really steal the critical limelight because of their chamelon-like acting styles. Ford just doesn't fit into that category. He's probably considered a bit old school.

    I seriously, seriously, seriously thought he was going to get a "career" Oscar for "42". 1. Overdue narrative 2. Crowd-pleasing and well-reviewed film 3. Not playing Harrison Ford.
    He turned down the role George Clooney won for in Syriana. It's probably not a coincidence that this is around the time he started taking more supporting roles, but I don't think it was part of some scheme to get a trophy; he probably started noticing he could do some richer, character-driven work when he wasn't tasked with carrying a film.

    Amazing Blade Runner and The Thing hold up better now than E.T - which was the biggest movie of all of the 80's. I don't 'hate' it - but damn - all of the 80's. I can think of 100 better 80's movies than E.T.

    I really enjoyed Shrinking, especially Ford. And if we're being honest, it is a bit of a travesty he never won an Oscar. And yet, he's certainly gonna go down as one of the great movie stars/actors of all-time.

    Mosquito Coast should've been a guaranteed win. That character Ford played, Allie Fox, while a brilliant genius, was NOT a likeable guy though. He was outspoken, with a lot of opinions, negative opinions.

    Very brave of you to make this video. Look at all the nasty comments here about Ford. I think he gets no love and no respect from his fellow actors with voting rights in these acting awards. It is reluctant and non enthusiastic at best- luke warm as described at Cannes. So noms and honorary Oscars are not on the horizon. For me who thinks many many of his performances deserved attention noms and wins it is aggravating to see how many younger and less worthy( my opinion obviously) have leapfrogged right over him for honorary oscars and screen actors awards. I'd like to think he doesn't care. Time is running out. If he doesn't snag an emmy nomination for Shrinking at least as any other " beloved'" actor of his age would regardless of his deservedness that proves to me yet again he has been overlooked on purpose....

    Harrison for should have at least be nominated for Frantic 1988 it was the best performance of his career, Jeremy irons was snubbed the same year for his best performance in "Dead Ringers"

    Harrison Ford doesn’t need “the academy nominee” in his movies trailers. His name alone dwarfs the fact of him being nominated.

    He hasnt really been in many oscar worthy performances id say, theyre there but theyre arent many. Hes more of a movie star just playing Ford. If youre not transforming to the part, the part where you play yourself better show off some serious acting prowess which most of his dont

    I don't know... he's an OK actor. I don't think he's bad but he's not good. He's pretty much the same character in every movie with different settings, he's always playing Harrison Ford and it's ok when the casting is correct.

    I have loved Harrison Ford since “The Conversation” in 1974. But I just don’t think he has ever turned in that great Oscar-worthy performance. As Han Solo & Indiana Jones, he is basically playing himself. Yes …. It’s iconic …. But is it great acting? I think his greatest performance was in Zemeckis’ “What Lies Beneath” where he plays against type as the evil villain.
