  • There was this case recently of a girl who flew down from Delhi to Bangalore to meet someone she had connected online on dating app. He had talked her into getting some expensive clothes, jewellery etc there was a story about introducing her to the parents then going for some ceremony/ donation something. Once they got into the vehicle at the airport, he literally pushed her out of the moving car and disappeared with all the valuables. Fortunately, he was caught.
Then the growing cases of women inviting their online matches on a drinks and dinner date to expensive places, racking up a huge fake bill with exaggerated pricing or dishes they didn’t even order, running into thousands or lakhs. Restaurant owners start insulting the man, threaten him and bully him into paying often.
Pyar, love, dhokha!! Ek to dil ka mamla and upar se ye scam. Double whammy!
We have done many videos separately breaking down the various safety aspects you have to keep in mind while meeting someone from an online portal.
It’s very easy to build fake identity, false professional portfolio, lie about travels, sound polished. But you never really know them until you know them. I mean, you don’t even know some people fully even if you know them in actual 3D reality for years.
So, few pointers that you must keep in mind:
    1. Always be cautiously optimistic with whom you like/ match online
    2. Take everything they say/claim with a pinch of salt
    3. Be ready to be shocked at any point of time
    4. Feel courageous enough to ask for a reference professionally or even a relative
    5. Do some background checks before you say yes to meeting
    6. ALWAYS and I cant stress enough ALWAYS keep a loved one inform when you decide its time to meet your potential match
    7. There is no secret so big that you can’t trust at least one person in your life informed
    8. Let them know the location of your meeting, amount of time you expect to be spending so that they can remain alert if they don’t hear between a given time
    9. First meeting should always be in a public place that is easily accessible, crowded, familiar
    10. I advise girls to keep meetings over coffee as it is short and it gives you an opportunity to leave quickly if you feel uncomfortable
    11. Dear boys, same for you. Don’t take a chance.
    12. Don’t lend cash to any gender- dhoka equal hota hai, dil sabka toot ta hai!
    13. As a man, you do background checks as well. Women might also use empathy as a weapon saying they or someone close to them are sick, call you to some suspicious location, take your compromising videos- well that’s already explained in another video
    Stay Aware, Stay Safe.
