    Dear Friends, YKDHP.
    this is a slippery slope.
Do not attempt to purchase any YKDHP pots, unless you know the Ranked Artist's actual repute in YiXing.
    1. This is the priciest, rarest clay.
One "Kun" std brick (15kg) of YKDHP costs 50,000rmb and upwards (US$8,000). Assuming that one brick is used to make 14 successful pots, each pot's cost price, is US$570.
    2. MOST IMPORTANT:
Even many A&R Artists, themselves, have NOT seen the real YKDHP ore before! So even if they want to purchase a 15kg brick of YKDHP clay, they will never be confident that, THAT brick of clay is really made from YKDHP ore: it could be some HongNi mixed with colouring matters.
    View this video,
    • Master Shuo: exploring...
This is 李洪元 Li Hong Yuan, currently the most experienced person authorised to speak on ZiSha ore.
And yet, notice, again, very clearly at the 30:20 mark when he talks about YKDHP,...Notice something? He didn't show any real YKDHP ore nor clay nor finished pots at all in the studio! He ONLY showed the PHOTO of a lump of YKDHP found in nature! As the official YiXing ZiSha ore authority, he didn't even bring a real lump of YKDHP material to the studio where this is to be made as a documentary. Although he is good, to be trusted, but the situation is such that even the ore is unavailable. Even he couldn't bring a real YKDHP ore NOR POT.
Do you think you can procure the real thing?
    You understand things now.
    3. Do not buy a YKDHP pot.
If you still want to push on to procure a YKDHP pot, it must fulfil two criteria:
    1) the pot must be made and signed off with video certification from at least a Level2 Senior Master Artist who has a good repute,
    2) the Artist him/herself, must come FROM A FAMILY OF ZISHA ORE MINERS/INVOLVED IN MINING who have him/herself, VERIFIED it A)seeing the RAW YKDHP ore, and B) then witnessing it being processed into a Brick.
    TRIVIA:
    3) Many artists themselves still, dare not buy from other Clay stockists, because the artists can never verify whether the brick of so-called YKDHP ore is real. (so even if A&R Artists are scared to buy so-called YKDHP clay brick from other stockists? how about us as end-users buying a pot?)
    4) Number two, the Clay stockists also dared not sell them for fear of being wrongly blamed for hoaxing fellow artists.
It is an awkward situation for both parties and that is why they don't transact at all.
    4. The interesting situation on the ground, they take this is a joke and also true if this happens:
    - what if a community artisan stumbled upon or was being given for free: a brick of real YKDHP verified by a L2 Artist who also was from a family of ore miners.....
Answer: this community artisan WOULD RATHER SELL IT OFF for money than use it to make any YKDHP pots🎋
You know why? Because, being of a community unranked artisan, his pots are ply in the most affordable zone of about US$200... his natural status does not command his pots being sold at $500 and beyond... Consumers simply don't spend $500 and above for community craftsmen' pots.
Just imagine: if he were to make a pot from YKDHP and he priced it at $800? --- Consumers would not even dare trust him, and would rather get a YKDHP pot from a L2 Artist. It is also risky for him to open up the brick of YKDHP Clay to start making pots, because HE IS NOT FAMILIAR with the clay, and therefore he will definitely waste the first few kg of clay making test firing patches and failing at forming the first few pots. Remember that EACH type of clay has specific nuances, character and properties, which the crafter, needs time trying out on the first few pots, to get used to this clay. Making pots is not so simple as we thought, YiXing artisans and Artists told us!😅🤗🙏 And even if the craftsman is able to form up the shape of the pot, there exists the risks of seeing malformed or cracked pots coming out if the kiln, this IS VERY REAL.
Thus the sticky situation with YKDHP.
Do not purchase unless the above 2 criteria are met. Yuan Kuang Da Hong Pao.

Hello, I am Korean living in Turkey. I heard many... no almost of Dahongpao zisha teapot is not used original ore, but mixed with oxidised iron (鐵紅粉). Actually oxidised iron can make red colour and it is not harmful for health. So in my opinion, it is acceptable. However we still be cafeful sellers who insist they selling `original` YKDHP.
Thank you for your information. :)

      Yes dear Buddy! Indeed! Annyeonghaseyo!
Original ore Da Hong Pao is almost extinct, and unspeakable. There are only a few people clay miners who still have a little bit. All should exercise EXTREME caution. 🙏🏼🙇‍♂️🌿🌞

Hello Ian. I am watching your excellent videos again and again. So, if 大红袍 is a subcategory of 红泥, then is there such a clay as 朱泥大红袍?

Dear Paul! Great to see you again! :-D
Thank you very, very much for the business before.
Yes, YKDHP 原矿大红袍 is classified under ZiSha HongNi 紫砂红泥 :-D, and there is this ~ZhuNi DaHongPao 朱泥大红袍~ which is bits and parts of ZhuNi specially visually-inspected and hand-picked by an experienced ore-picker or even an Artist himself. The said person would hand-pick at site or more usually after the whole clunks of ZhuNi ore are mined and carried back. Such specially hand-picked ZhuNi bits will then be processed into a Kun of Brick, and then used to make pots. Such special ZhuNi bits will give rise to a post-firing colour which is close to the YKDHP colour - deep red, not so bright like XiaoMeiYao ZhuNi. Extremely similar to YKDHP.
There is still, a difference between the YKDHP and ZhuNiDHP: that is, the texture. YKDHP will still have a rougher more grainy appearance while ZhuNiDHP is smoother and a bit waxy.
ZhuNiDHP is prized and costly as well. Again purchase from accredited Artist or craftsmen who are highly acclaimed or well-known in YiXing with a reputation to protect.
Because, ZhuNi DHP can be faked as well:
mixing colouring agents to ZhuNi to yield the desired colour of DHP.
      Thank you dear Paul :-D
for the sake of all sentient beings and ZiSha lovers, information is King.
      Warmest Regards,
      ~ ian.

@@ccie1388 Thank you for catching up Buddy. I'm writing the script for the next episode as we speak🙏🤗🎋... acquire from a Level3 Master Artist/ Level2 Master Artist or Level1 Researcg Level Master Artist who come from a family/lineage of ZiSha ore miners who have a reputation to uphold, and, who have actually seen the sample ores before subjected it to processing into a brick, and settled for more than 5 years before taking it out for making into a top class ZiSha pot. Otherwise, don't believe anybody, as I humbly explained in the video description/narration. May you and your family be safe, well and happy my friend🌿🌿🌿

Even before I could answer the question as to whether my hifi is meant for music or for high fidelity, you now make me question whether my teapot is meant for tea or for craftsmanship. I hate you Ian.
