  • A look into all the Sarracenia I currently own in my greenhouse collection. This is the best time of year to see Sarracenia as a whole with their amazing colour.

    Hi, when you Cross pollinate your Sarracenia how do you know what to name them, like if you Crossed a Flava with say a Purpurea how would you Write it on a Label that i would get Confused with never cross pollinated my Plants before i know what to do but never tried it .Anyway you have a really nice Collection and i would be Greatful if you could Help me with cross naming question.Thank's 👍

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, no worries. So if you’ve placed the flava pollen onto the purp tea flower, you would write on the labels Sarracenia Flava x Sarracenia Purpurea. Another example if you’ve crossed a flava with a another hybrid like a flava x oreophila then on that label you would write Sarracenia flava x Sarracenia (flava x oreophila).
      Hope this helps

    How often do these plants need new peat?
    Some say one should do it almost every year, but I've seen plants sitting in their pots / bog gardens for years.
    I'm a bit confused.

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl

      Some say it is best to repot every one or two years yes, however personally I only ever repot my plants when they have either outgrown their pot or there is something wrong with the set up, with a large collection it would be very wasteful. So I’d recommend only when they need it

      Shouldn't make too much of a different if you have put a little bit in there but it isn't needed as they will create their own

    How can I fertilize my sarracenia in a flat where there are no insects?

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fertilisation is not required for any carnivorous plants. You do not need to feed insects either. Some growers use fish flakes or meal worms to feed plants if this is something you would like to do however

    what is the name of the red trumpet pitchers with red veined tops in the beginning of vid? I see a cephalotus in there, what soil mix do you use?

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The red sarracenia at the start is sarracenia flava var rubricorpra. And I use a mixture of peat, sharp sand and perlite for my cephalotus :)

    What size pots are you using and how long do you go before transplanting?

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a 9cm pot for most Sarracenia. I will only repot when the rhizome has reached the end of the pot and it starts to bulge

    Hi do you put water inside the pitchers of sarracenia? Thanks

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there, no you do not fill pitcher of Sarracenia (other than purpurea which you can put a little water in pitchers). Most Sarracenia rely on bacteria to digest prey as they do not produce digestive enzymes as such compared to other carnivorous plants so no liquid is required. Hope this helps :)

    Hi I just got some Sarracenia from a supermarket I love them but don't know much about them, my problem is I think they had been watered with tap water but I got them home and gave them rain water from a water bucket in my yard, should my pitchers have fluid in them as far as I can see they are empty, will they top up them selfs or do I have to put water in to the pitchers myself. hope you can help Thanks Tom.

    • @carnivorous_plant_girl
      @carnivorous_plant_girl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Tom, Sarracenia do not require water to be put in their pitchers as they rely on bacteria to break down prey rather than digestive enzymes. As long as you continue to give them rain water there should be little damage done by the tap water given to them in store. Hope this helps
