He really is! I love his bigger games like A Feast for Odin and Hallertau, but he makes some great smaller games as well! One of my favorite designers for sure! ☺
Thank you for appreciating that, Ambie! Somehow I thought it would be nice and easy and it turned out to be a huge hassle in many ways, but I think it was worth it... or at least I hope so! Thanks for checking out the video and for your comment! ☺
What a joy it is to watch your videos! Thank you, sir, for this wonderful list! Truly, the quality how the content is presented is outstanding as well. Ha, but I would never take my 'Isle of Skye' 😧 to play outside on a blanket at a beach... Sandbox-games would have an entirely new meaning when we'd be done with it 🤣 We like to take 'Borders' which is a very simple but fun roll and write with laminated sheets, so whatever gets on there can be brushed or wiped off 🌞🙂
Thank you so much for your kind words! ☺ I agree, Isle of Skye would be better suited for a park bench perhaps, but if you were really careful on a beach blanket I think you might be able to make it work! 🏖 I'm looking at Borders on BGG right now; that looks like fun! Plus it's co-designed by Michael Kiesling which is always a good sign! Thanks for the suggestion!
Thank you for taking the time to comment! I love all of the Azuls so much! Hannah and I particularly like playing the second one (Stained Glass of Sintra) on her balcony on the tiny table she has out there! ☀ I've only ever played Railroad Ink virtually but that would be a really great game to play on-the-go, too! Good suggestion!
Haha! I've never seen Blues Clues so I had to go and find the original intro on TH-cam but I kind of see what you mean! 🤣 It was a pretty corny intro for sue, but (as with most of my videos) I was just making it up as I went along!
"Oh, hey! It's BoardGameDave's new video!" 😆😉 There are few things better than playing board games in the middle of nature 💚 Some great advices (depending on the space available and how bad weather conditions can get 😅) I'd suggest some roll&write ("Rolling Realms" or "Ganz Schon Clever" are two of my favorites), while I wouldn't recommend flip&write because of the wind. If Sagrada's box is too large, "The Whatnot Cabinet" could be a good alternative. And for trips in couple, I'd go with "Paris: La cité de la lumière", "Nanga Parbat" or "Jekyll & Hyde".
Thank you so much for adding some suggestions of your own, Marco! You're right that it's so nice to be able to play board games outside in nature! 💚 Believe it or not, I haven't played any of the games you've mentioned! Sounds like I have a lot of games to add to my want-to-play list! I'm always looking for more portable/travel-sized games to add to my collection!
I am not going to lie, the outtakes got me rolling. I really like the list, Dave! Unfortunately in Oklahoma the Segrada cards wouldn't stand a chance in the winds.
Thank you so much for your comment, Joe! (Hannah thought the outtakes were a little too much but that's literally how many takes it took to get that opening shot right! I'm glad you thought it was funny!) 🤣 And I believe you about the wind! I debated including that game in this list but for a nice, calm day it's perfect for playing outside!
Haha, that's funny because there are/were groundhogs all over the place where I was filming! 🤣 And I filmed the video with my DSLR and captured the audio with my phone like I usually do. Yeah, thank goodness I don't have to rely on my camera audio; the Voice Recorder app on the phone works brilliantly for most situations! Thanks for the comment, man!
Really great picks!!! I just have to note that you used metal coins for Isle of Skye :D Those definitely won't fly away in the wind. I was gonna add Tiny Towns but that games has big cards that would fly away, so you made the right call of not including it. The only game I can think of that you haven't mentioned is Land Vs. Sea. It's a Carcassonne-like game so there are only thick tiles you play with. If you haven't tried it yet, give it a whirl! And give Framework a try too, it's a new Uwe Rosenberg game that feels like an upgraded version of Patchwork in a way. We just played it 2 days ago and instantly loved it
Thank you so much for your comment, Tae! And yes I did; I love that you noticed that! Those are the metal coins from Clans of Caledonia--they are SUCH a perfect set of coins for most euro games set in that era! ☺ I've been enjoying Tiny Towns so much lately that I was tempted to add it to this list, but all those cards could definitely blow away and you can't really play without them! I've heard a lot about Land vs. Sea and I think I was supposed to get a copy but it never happened? I'm not sure! 🤔 I'd definitely be down to give it a try! But how have I not heard of Framework? I'll have to check that out; Rosenberg is one of my favorite designers!
Hive is great, and can be played basically anywhere! If I have to bring something to play outside I usually tend toward lighter games. These are usually my go-to's: Cockroach Poker, railroad ink, Similo, Jungle speed, Dragon Punch, and Chartae.
I actually haven't played Hive yet but I've been meaning to buy a copy for beach trips and other vacations! Thank you so much for sharing your other outdoor recommendations; I'm sure other commenters will find that helpful, too! (I'll have to look into some of those titles that are unfamiliar to me!) ☀
I'm dying from the elemental resistances you've enumerated Dave 🤣💀. So this is what that community post was about. Nice list! I never really considered portable games in my portfolio but lately I had some few that I inadvertently realized to be quite handy. The Grizzled, Love Letter, Cabo and recently EGG released a pocket edition of For Sale. It almost looked liked a regular box of bathing soap 😂. Nice list! ❤❤❤
Haha, I wasn't kidding! The lighting was especially problematic when I sat down to edit the video... I spent so much time color correcting! 💀And yes, this is what I was referring to! It's always handy to have some portable games you can play outside! I'll have to look into The Grizzled and Cabo; I'm not very familiar with them! I did know about the pocket edition of For Sale (at least the older version) but I heard the components weren't very good so I got the regular version! Thank you for your comment!
Oh, yeah? That's good to know! 🏰 I hadn't tried it yet but I think that was the game that inspired me to make this video since all of the components are so chunky!
Absolutely love Patchwork. Uwe Rosenberg is incredible
He really is! I love his bigger games like A Feast for Odin and Hallertau, but he makes some great smaller games as well! One of my favorite designers for sure! ☺
I love that you filmed the video (and b-roll) outside!
Thank you for appreciating that, Ambie! Somehow I thought it would be nice and easy and it turned out to be a huge hassle in many ways, but I think it was worth it... or at least I hope so! Thanks for checking out the video and for your comment! ☺
Dave you are an amazing presenter and your gaming suggestions are always on point
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave such an encouraging comment! ☺️

Thanks for all the suggestions, I loved the video! Azul is a game I would also bring on a picnic or mini games as Railroad Ink Challenge! 😃

The beginning of this video had major Blues Clues vibes (in a good way, haha)

Oh hey there… it’s like our door ground hogs day. Great video as always. Was this shot with your phone? Even with the wind sound quality was great!

@@BoardGameDave welcome as always!
I can confirm that Kingdomino plays well outdoors LOL

Rofl. That outtro reminds me of my own videos. 😂
The first line is always the hardest! 🤣 Once I get going I’m usually okay but I’m always so self-conscious about that first line!
