I love the “ Frank moment “ at the start of the shows . Trouble with his brother in law or Fay is mad at him for some wild problem .. and now the sprinkler.... always something.. I love these old story’s 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Did you ever figure out why Frank would occassionally come up with one of his goofy stories that had absolutely nothing to do with the storyline?
Well, it was a way to stretch the show time out if it was running short. They would time the script before they went on the air and if they were going to be short that night, Frank would come up with one of his "goofball stories".

Dragnet sounds like someone followed Sergeant Friday around with a microphone all day. It doesn't sound like a studio recorded radio show. It sounds so realistic. That's what I love about it.

Webb worked hard to get just that effect. He wanted to make it as realistic as possible, unlike a lot of other radio shows that just cranked out stories each week without that effort.

The strongest dragnet episode in my opinion. Also, the saddest.

Does anyone remember the episode where the guys office was bugged while Friday and Smith proved he killed a friend over a bag of sample diamonds? He couldn't call his wife because she was on the phone? It kept ringing busy.

This is the 9/29/53 episode called "The Big Try". It's about a threatened suicide. There is another episode with the same title broadcast 9/21/54. That is a different episode about a hit and run homicide.

The actor in this episode was in fact Whit Connor, whose voice has some similarities to that of Harry Morgan. And yes, Harry Morgan did appear in a few of the radio Dragnet episodes.

Joe was pretending to be the other guy, the one the suicidal man agreed to talk with. They knew he wouldn’t talk to the police, so they came up with the swap idea 👍🏽
