Good tips! Another small yet significant change that helped me: in the settings, you can change whether you run or walk by default. By defeault it's set to run, which, in my opinion, is way too fast to have good control of your character. I started doing much better when I switched it to walk by default.
Another tip, don’t use your whip to break pots. I always pick them up and throw them bc there are enemies in the pots sometimes. It helps getting into the habit of picking up and throwing pots And if you can get the Mattock (pickaxe) from a vendor, get it. Can dig anywhere you want to go, even down. If there is a compass and Mattock, that’s the best bc you can dig right to the exit while making a lot of $$.

I’m honestly embarrassed at this point that I have never treated myself to Spelunky before.. I’m a 25 year old male & I have known of this game forever but just never got around to it.. now that I have.. I can say without a doubt.. that WHAT HAVE I BEEN WASTING MY LIFE PLAYING ALL THIS TIME?! This game is astounding

Yeah I do the same, just feels more natural to use the run button to you know, run… instead of using it to walk. Helped me a lot too
