Wonderful tone and musicality! The sound you produce on the oboe is just marvelous. Please produce a CD!

Hi Jennifer. I played years ago. My teacher was the principle oboist of the Utah Symphony. He started me, and was my teacher until I finished at the university. He reed style was different. He expected each read to be perfect, which meant it was suited to any type of music. I grew to believe that was a better method because it would guarantee that I was prepared any time a conductor pulled out anything for a rehearsal without giving us any warning. As a result, however, I typically only had one, or 2 reeds that I was comfortable with at any given time. Your philosophy has never crossed my mind. Now for the sad part of my annoyance. I haven't played for 30 years at least. My instrument was stolen, and I've never been in a position to replace it. I've had 19 surgeries, including 6 eye surgeries. 3 of those prevented me from playing at all for over a year each time. Corneal transplants. I don't have 3 eyes. I broke a lot of stitches in my right eye, and it had to be redone 20 years later because of scar tissue, and degenerating vision. Now that I'm healthy that way, there are other issues. But I'd love to start playing again now that it's possible, and also now that I can no longer sing, which took the place of the oboe when mine was stolen and the surgeries kept me from restarting after I'd healed.
Thank you for making the video. I'm curious what make your instrument is. I would love to find an affordable F.Loree, Marigeaux, or Lauben made during the late 1970s, but I also realize that "affordable" and any of those names are oxymoronic... 19 surgeries have prevented me from saving a lot of money for anything that isn't crucial to preparing for a retirement of some type. Being married to an awesome cellist has helped though. She's spectacular, though too timid to be in the spotlight.
Good luck in the symphony, and I hope your stay is as long as you like. It will have been 3 years as of my comment. I hope you have done well and they have appreciated your contribution. The snippet of your rehearsal sounded very nice. Good deep tone, and good control.

For an American oboist, her tone is absolutely GORGEOUS!! Does anyone know what kind of oboe she plays?

@@danielmead146 WHY? I agree with the previous comment that the American oboe sound normally just doesn't compare with the much more complex European tone, e.g., Celine Moinet, Francois Leleux, Stefan Schilli et al. The tonal color is completely different, but Jennifer Christen's tone is simply SUPERB!
