I thought meta was the latin particle of "something withing something", which in this case would be "the game within the game" referring to how players tend to decide based on things that may not be obvious to people outside of the game
@@MaccusFNS im talking about the champion winrate, not the player winrate... Before shaco support was considered good, it had a shitty winrate, yet i had a 80% winrate with that
you are completely wrong. Just because a winrate is bad for a chmapioni it doesnt mean its abad. You have to look on objectiv facts, his abilitys etsc. Not winrate. Shit champions like yi have an high winrate. When you want to know what champs are truly broken right now look at pro play, azir is oen of them
@@cybercipher5770 you missed the point where pro play can't be compared to soloQ. Champs can be broken in soloQ while being near useless in pro play and vice versa. Taking Azir as an example, he's got a very strong kit for pro play and thus is nerfed in all regards, in order to not overperform in proplay. Which makes him a bad win rate champ in soloQ. Thus the assumption in the original comment bears some truth.
"The mentality in normals is different" Dudes in my normals play their mains, double invade early game, secure objectives, roam, ping, and overall play like they are at worlds and battling for a 2mUSD prize pool. I remember once we were at fourty minutes, everyone on our team hit power spikes, were rolling the enemy and it was just a matter of time before we won, and our yuumi called a surrender with the reason being that she was bored
@@aerkrybryan3745 I may be too young (started) in S9 but wtf he could cancell dashes now I see why riot doesn't want him to be popular. But on a serious note they should revert that anti dash mechanic since almost every champ has 1 dash at least in these days.
@@misteriousgamers9290 I mean, that might make him even more broken, since there was less dashing back then, he would be a counter for literally every dash(would be nice to have a solid dash counter but riot says no)
@@misteriousgamers9290 That's good. Every character having a dash is completely stupid. Having a character that can counter the fact that every champ has a dash is a good idea.
I feel sorry for Azir. He was aborted twice and when he came back second time he was bullied by riot. Even in lore Bird boy was not wanted child. But even after all of that, Azir still keep going, waiting to get picked by the one and only mid-lane god Faker showing that no matter how much riot will sh*t on you, you can show people that you're not. The other good example will be Skarner. Yes, he's not very high skill level, but you get the point.
Anivia: creates wall as a basic ability This is fine Azir: creates a wall as an ultimate that can't be passed through without blinks This is broken let's make his ult just raise a wall and that's it
Nah bro, his wall is strong because of the Shurima shuffle that knocks people back into a team after Azir essentially dashing 3 flashes long. It's a combo that they refuse to nerf despite being the only real problem in his kit and instead nerfing every other aspect of his kit but the shurima shuffle. The shurima shuffle is the reason he's played in pro play.. I really wish they'd make him stronger in solo q
@@608midshipcool Nerfing the shuffle would destroy Azir as its high risk, high reward. If you don't do it right you're fucked. And those of us that can have been playing Azir for a loooong time.
@@IncognitoSprax I'm an Azir main, I'm aware, however if I had to nerf or change his kit to make him more suited to non-pro-play, I'd definitely change his ult
@@608midshipcool dude if Jhin and Lee Sin can get non-ultimate Executes and Yasuo have a Wind Wall, why can't Azir have at least just that? It's not that he's an extremely mobile champion like Riven or Camille that he can "abuse" that. For me that was a part of his character as well, being this Emperor of Shurima. He could either lead the charge or fight on the sidelines.
I started League when Azir was first released. First character i bought was Azir. I lost game after game while i was trying to learn him. I didnt even really understood the game back then and i was trying to play Azir. I gave up and didnt play him for a long time. I eventually quit playing league in 2017. When i returned to tha rift 1-ish year ago I remembered how much fun i had with him even though i literally did not win a single game with him. I decided to pick him up and try again, im so glad i did. Even though he if nerfed to the ground, i still love him. I love his lore, i love his gameplay, i love his aesthetics, i love everything about him. If anyones curious to play him or looking for a main, just play him. You can always try new stuff if you dont like it.
I agree! I picked him up a few days ago and i just love his entire abillity kit. Its just so fun to play. I have not yet gotten a mvp game with him, but he is such fun even though he is hard! I recomed to pick pick him up!!
hm, i literally played adc, switched to an easier role at least for solo queue and played azir also easy for my standards (i am a top 25 player global in a fighting game which is millions times more mechanical than league) . I only got to a 60 percent winrate. Shit game.
Azir A sol and ivern where peach league of legends, they were inovating at the time, fun and had a high skill cealing. Nowadays we get champs that are also inovative but not because they are fresh and new but because they are overloaded. I really hope that riot starts to release those kinds of champion again :(
In the case of Viego, People are only now understanding how to play him. It's similar to how Yuumi had the lowest winrate before, not because she was weak but because no one knew how to play her during the first two weeks of her release. And that was the reason she became extremely annoying and OP after the buffs even though it wasn't needed.
tbh azir never needed this, because he's already insanely fast at destroying turrets. And you still can use W to break turrets faster, kinda. With the 3 soldier attack speed bonus. :)
@@crankpatate3303 now he could use it again, back in the day you were getting 10%atkspeed per 10%cdr which it made that w usage redundant. Nowdays it would be a nice addition again
and when his E have knock up when you hit enemy and the unpassable wall of his R when enemy try to pass it the soldier will push back? oh good old days.
As an Azir main since I started playing League, I really wanted to cry at certain points of the video; Look what they've done to my birdy boi emperor. Gj on the video btw keep up the good work.
Season 7 Azir was perfectly balanced. He wasn't reworked yet. Had no presence in pro play, but was still great in solo queue. Pros still built Nashors into Rylais on him due to season 5/6 PTSD, but we all had moved on to rushing Void Staff second with magic pen runes. Imagine. A season where you were properly rewarded for the time you invested, had clear weaknesses and challenges to face, and no one to talk shit. If you popped off on Azir in season 7, you were called Faker. Your win condition was to not die in lane and if the enemy managed to die to you.. they were bad. Your wall actually peeled you, but people could still come over it. Blinks, flash, etc. Olaf ult, spell shields, Malphite, Vi, Nocturne, etc. You could still hit Azir over his wall anyway. Ahri felt like a fun matchup still and you were still playing League at a disadvantage even then. But, it felt rewarding. I can lane against someone now and tell I'm better than them. But, it doesn't matter. Their champion can afford to make mistakes and their champion automatically has more presence. I can even play a situation perfectly and still get bopped. I could've just played another champ and steamrolled them. Yet, in season 7, when Azir was still considered weak, I would've stomped any of them. Even if it was a flavor of the month pick.
man I've felt this. I feel the same way, I used to play Azir only in season 7, and he felt great. If I made mistakes, then i knew that losing a game was most likely my fault, if I played well however, I could 1v9 almost any game. Playing him now feels like flipping a coin, I can play a near perfect game with no mistakes and still have no chance of winning the game, because my team didn't manage to survive until 23 minutes with all of our inhibs up, at which stage of the game Azir is just not capable of carrying those types of games, like he used to be able to do back in S7.
As an Azir main since his release, proplay literally ruined everything. I deleted the game for a bit and now only play unranked but Azir in this current state definitely teaches you to play perfect or lose.
@@IncognitoSprax if you're below master you can't complain about the champion, he's only really an issue when you get into grandmaster/challenger and he becomes absolutely useless and meta mids just take over
@@balladani820 It was the range he had back then that gave players the possibility to make up for his weak state by using skill. Riot dont want skill in their game anymore, so they remove it more and more. New azir is a joke to play against pre rework azir, if we are talking about skill ceiling.
They should bring back the dash prevention on his ult considering literally every meta champion he goes against has a dash or two, but make the part of the wall that prevented a dash collapse allowing enemies to walk through. Should be interesting enough to see if enemies are willing enough to get funneled into a narrow area to get to azir or just give up. Or how about a more interesting change, give azir the ability to pick wall formations that have different effects. A spear formation (basically a V shape) - knockback on cast, acts like a soldier but isn't affected by q (they stay put) basically they auto targets in their range or at least in their cone of influence, enemies can walk through the "wall" A defensive wall (same formation as his current ult) - no knockback and no damage, can move champions similar to when anivia or taliyah hits you directly with their walls, doesn't attack but prevents dashes, portions of the wall can be destroyed like yorick wall, gives azir a shield/ movement speed
@@johnsmith-de2py what ? No no no. Other way around. Why Riot even cares about people under Diamond 2 in balance ? I think they should ignore data from this rangs 90% of the time
I played one or two ranked games and went back to norms because ranked queue lasts too long lol I also got silver :( I thought I would be better than silver RIP
His numbers just way to low because of the amount of utility and skill expression he provides. Man I LOVE this video. As an Azir main I cannot express how cool it is to see awareness raised to all of these issues that Azir has versus literally every other champ. I adore this champ so much but have grown increasingly more frustrated over the years by feeling treated "unfairly" by Riot as they haven't done ANYTHING to address these issues. Anyway I digress. Solid video keep it up!
Some really great points! Hardstuck plat azir main here, I feel he got a bit more popularity in season 11 from comet and new ludens making his mid game much better
Having main Azir since PBE and still continuing after the plethora of nerfs I will continue playing him until the end of time. He’s the absolute most fun champ for me to play and is the only champion that ever gets me back to playing league. Thematically when a team fight erupts and you have 3 or 4 sand soldiers on the field feels like you’re a true emperor. How his entire kit revolves around his soldier position and repositioning with Q only leaves the player piloting the champion to blame. An amazing Azir player will carry team fights and lead teams to victory. I can not stress it enough how my team would be behind but a good team fight and positioning with Azir will turn the tables. Even being praised by other players after a loss feels like a win within itself because they themselves know how much of a challenge it is to pilot the bird. Thank you so much for covering my main!!
Great video! I just found your channel today and I am already amazed. But I came up with a video idea that you may consider. I would call it: Why NO ONE played [insert reworked Champ here]. I know that this series is there to spark a discussion about why only very few people play certain champs, but I think that a series on Champs that already have been reworked would be important because it would reflect on past reworks that may or may not have been succesful and may help to understand upcoming reworks, such as the Mundo rework that will be released this year. Anyways have a great day and keep up the amazing content!
Gotta say just recently found your channel but man you are so underrated, your videos teach a lot of things to even a league nerd like me and it's very interesting to see the why no one plays and why everyone plays videos they are very fun to watch, plus your voice is just very fun to hear. Hope to see more from you!
Truth is I loved the OLD Azir, back when he had insane range. The feeling you had while playing him was great, and the drifts you could do was like making sick skateboard tricks. Azir nowadays feels too risky, even if the damage output is much higher.
I personally don't mind when Azir is dominant. His difficulty curve makes it so that when you encounter a good Azir player you can rest assure that they're strong not because the champ's over-bloated nature makes it easy to pull of easy flashy plays, but rather because they actively took the time and effort to practice Azir. It's like running into a good Lee-sin player, it can be frustrating but you can't get mad cause the champ requires commitment and one miss-play leads to them dying instantly.
yup, i always get frustrated if i get owned by a champ with 3 dashes 999 movement speed 1000 dps with 2 items but i'm always impressed when people pull out plays with champs that actually require time to learn them
You can get mad. I think Riven and Azir are the most stupid champ designes with have in game. Like imagine. You make the most broken, radiculous champ with no counterplay, give them into kit everything champion can want and block it behind a skill floor not many players can touch. Wow, what a balance!
@@magieenvtuber9783 One Azir has a lot of counter play, where even someone who has mastered the champ can be brought down hard. Second in Rivens case, she's a prime example of champ with the illusion of difficulty. She's not hard in the slightest, players just let the power trip go to their head and throw common sense out the window, those players usually being the ones that feed. One champ requires commitment and practice, while the other just requires the player to simply keep their common sense intact.
@@Tokumastu1 hard disagree on both. First of Azir does not have counter play other than hoping he is bad and will do mistakes, cause flawless Azir can delete all counter play from his kit. Even flawlesss Ekko, Azir, or Zed do have counterplay, Azir for some reason does not. Second, Riven is hard af, all the animation cancels and mechanically intense gameplay that requires a lot of skill and at least 400 hrs on champ. Still if you learn her it's harder to lose on her, than to win on her even if your macro is like silver and you play in diamond. That is my all players who learned Rivern when auto filled on other champs do about as well, as player 2 devisions lower
@@magieenvtuber9783 One Azir does have counter and again can be shutdown hard, even if he's being piloted by a good player it's all about positioning and keeping track of his cooldowns. Second, yes, Riven is really easy and I speak from experience as someone that mains her. Again the only requirement for riven is not letting the power go to your head.
Hello there Vars. Wanted to say that as a 500k Azir main that tortured himself for over 6 years with this Sand Birb i agree with most things in this vid. Yeap, i'm a tryhard who also wants to have fun AND win at the same time, which in turn made me a mid lane main after i discovered how fun and tactical Azir's kit really is. Even despite his identity as the "Only good in pro play or if you are crazy enough to main him" battle mage, i still enjoy him nowadays because of his versatility, having like 4 to 5 viable rune pages to run, and very strategic buildpaths, either as a poke/burst mage or as the AP marksman...i just love this poor lost Emperor. Nice vid dude, i'm glad others even remember this pigeon. Well, except for ranked games, because i enjoy when people dont know how to play against Azir. They probably barely see one in ranked to begin with :p Keep it up, now i'm definitely gonna watch your other vids on my other shady preferred champs
I'ma kindred main that found this channel recently thanks to the kindred video , I saw the old aurelion and new aurelion video and started playing on normals just to get good and things like that . Now I want to play azir
i still remembered when azir was just released and loved everything he had,the wall bounce on his R IMO was one of the best defensive things he had and avoided those dash type champions wich now the solider's walls feels useless and get shit on pretty quickly. I mained azir for quite a while even took my time to M7 him and played a couple times in rank with him getting smurfed and otps wich sucks but getting praised by high elo players smurfing in Silver towards gold felt really good and gave me confidence on playing azir more, after the changes and nerf azir got annoying and it started feeling like a chore to play him and you had to micro manage even more than before so i got lazy and stopped playing him even tho he is still my fav champion so far and my friends told me that i wasted my potential and it is true since i rarely play azir now but it used to be one of my best champions but the term "Fun" with Azir is hardly achived. He really needs actual buffs or life quality things to be enjoyable again or at least items wich he can benefit or be stable.
I started playing azir some time after the patch where they removed his stun. He was by far my favorite champ. Took forever to get good with him just needed one more s for mastery 7 but took a long break from lol and came back to find him nerfed into the ground. He really is such a chore to play now haven't touched him since last summer.
8:14 worth noting is because they crippled Nashor's for Azir he takes EVEN LONGER to scale. Last season I think it was reasonable to assume that a 3 item Azir could deal some solid damge while having everything he needs ( AP/AS/CDR/Mana ): While still solid at 3 items his stats that he requires to get going are spread more thinly and not recieving a boost in power through items, while most other champs have gotten incredible tools through Mythics and what not, it makes the game even more frustrating.
They won't. How can they port that, how do you see someone controlling him with joysticks contols ? With the mechanics of auto target or lock target it would be nearly impossible to make his soldiers smooth to move
@@sahoko1868 that's why i am waiting to see how they will port him since feral pony said they change heroes if they have to so they would work on joy stick controls so i want to see what will they do.
@@nannobot1280 But I also Remember they will not port all the champions into the games, but will create new ones who share a similar feeling. I really think the champions that they won't port is the ones who change the map too much or are clunky/unplayable with joysticks, Azir fits this criteria. The only way they could make him work is too make his W a passive ability and making his soldiers permanent around him, and when they are too far they retreat to Azir. Despise that I really don't know. Another Character that I would'nt see ported is Aphelios. With his unique Interface he would be too hard to make work you need to be really smooth by switching weapons. The changes made for characters are really minimals, like Katarina who will move slowly while in ult (so it bring thebpoint of putting Samira in WR), Soraka who have a bigger and badder Q after three heals, Aurelion who can move siwftly while in E... It's just some improvements really. Porting Azir would be remaking him from Zero, at this point, it would be better to make a new character who battle with just one permanent pet
@@sahoko1868 well there is something they could do an that is to make azir like orriana like one soldier at a time and i think dashing to a soldier isn't to complicated and making the soldier dash isn't complicated aswell. This might be the one and only way to do it
Although being kinda weak I still just love the feeling of poking and enemy down whenever they go for CS and dashing around with you E-Q combo and setting up the perfect ultimate is amazing
Ah yet a main of mine to be covered! Since I know he is diffi ult it will be an ego boost, azir is too hard no one plays him, beside me. Confidence overflow
Is Azir that hard ? Like honestly my champ pool is literally all the hardest champs and i am diamond/master player(last time i was master was when i one tricked Viktor tho) and i would say Azir is average in terms of difficulty. He is not up there with Riven, Aurelion, Gangplank, but he is like Aatrox/Ekko/Kalista/Lee sin level difficulty i would say
@@magieenvtuber9783 Depends on how you define difficulty. Yes, Riven has a lot of very advanced tech and in order to actually do well with her, you need to be very good with her mechanically. However, her decision-making and playstyle are still very much that of a fighter--that is to say, relatively straightforward. She just happens to have a metric shit-ton of animation cancelling Aurelion is... well... Aurelion 😅 Yes his playstyle is VERY different and that makes him very hard to pick up (as mentioned in Vars' last video), but almost all his difficulty focuses around spacing. I'm not super familiar with GP so I can't comment too much on him. However, in comparison to those first two, Azir has a bunch more going on that contributes to his difficulty. Similar to a lot of the other champions you mentioned (although I wouldn't necessarily agree with Ekko and Aatrox), he has a very high barrier to entry. Hand him to most unsuspecting bronze players and watch them fall flat on their face. What makes him unique from other champions though is that, while their difficulty curves may be more forgiving and taper off after a certain point, Azir's continues to rocket up due to the: decision-making involved in positioning himself (in range of his soldiers while still spacing around allies and enemies), chess-like decision-making--as Vars aptly put it--involved in positioning his soldiers, tech tricks like shuffling/drifting/further combinations, and unorthodox playstyle when compared to more typical champions. This is also what makes him such a strong pick in the hands of pro players. His skill curve, while ridiculously steep the whole way up, is also incredibly high. I wouldn't necessarily say "infinite" like what was mentioned in the video, but it's probably safe to say that no one has reached it yet. Despite that, he can be an absolute monster to go up against, especially with organized teams like those you see in tournaments. And that's why he always gets nerfed into the ground :')
He’s too awkward and unique, his play style is a lot like a sol in the sense that he needs to control something other than himself to succeed. The reason that orianna works is because she’s simple, and her ball feels a lot like a normal skill shot that any other mage would imploy. The problem with Azir and a sol is that you feel like they should be played like any other mage, but their play style is too complex and, without their soldiers/stars they feel almost useless as that is where all their damage comes from. Azir in particular is awkward, because his abilities are essentially glorified auto attacks, so he combines aspects of the marksmen and mage role, without really mastering or honing in on either of them. Azir and A sol can’t really be played like a “mage” because their skill set is too hard to use when transitioning from other mages such as Viktor or Syndra.
Im main Azir and i can say no other champion in game look and feel so cool when played good like Azir. You feel so badass playing him and i dont have that feeling with any other champion.
I am a ex main azir i stopped playing him at the start of season 11, mostly because of the reason you already told in the video (I think he is the champion with the strongest kit in all te game theoretically speaking) but the thing that made me say "no I can't take it anymore" were the changes to the item: nashor now no longer give you cdr(that was fundamental for azir) and you still have to pay gold for a passive that you don't use, but you still have to build it because is the only item that gives attack speed and ap even if it is super inefficent(the on hit magic damage). He don't have a good mythic item, liandry and luden are ok but azir don't use them both fully, he just get them because there is nothing better(just like the nashor)unlike other champion that utilize their mythic to their full potential(that's why I think riot should add some more mythic items because some chempion really don't benefit much from any of them they just build them because there is nothing better and this in my opinion is bad game design). Azir need too many item per game, first you need nashor, second you need a mythic item(liandry or luden) third/ you need boots, then if you want to do some serious damage you need rabadon, in mid late game you I'll need void staff in like 70%/80% ad you need a defensive item generally zhonya, so you can't build any situational item like morello, rylai's, cosmic drive or demonic embrace without lose one of your fundamental item. Sorry for taking soo long for my explanation and I thank you if you read all the comment until this point, don't be afreid to write your thoughts down below, I wish all reader a happy day.
he needs on hit on his soldiers. he's not the same champ, he has less range than most adcs as a mage. on hit would give him damage without bolstering his weak early game with number buffs and also let him take runes like bloodline for sustain because he's just way too short range now to have no sustain built into his kit
Yeah, we wouldn't want a champion to have the ability to stop dashes on their ultimate *looks at Poppy who has bonus armor and magic resist on top of the ability to stop all dashes* *looks at Cassiopeia who can prevent all dashes and flash* Wouldn't want that now, would we?
I remember the Azir release and being disabled for days due to bugs. The old double passive scaling cdr and attack speed and his W destroying towers. Back in the “we’re overloading it because it’s cool af” days. Wild times.
I used to accept the explanation for Azir's constant nerfs, that in the competitive scene he was still an outrageously popular pick as his main weakness (difficulty) disappears in pro play. That Azir's kit was too overloaded to the point where he could do everything. This is why they needed to take away the E knock up, take away the effective range of the soldiers, take away the CD - AS scaling, make the wall narrower, remove the wall's ability to prevent dashes, remove his ability to expend soldiers to chunk turrets, and make his Q eat roughly a 5th of his mana in laning phase. Then they release a non-stop barrage of champs that can build tank and still put out absurd damage (looking at you Sett) or have stupidly overloaded kits (Yone's E is a zed ult with movement speed boost and not even an energy bar to keep him in check), and I see that Azir deserves some of his OP back. If Sett can ult his way into a 4v1 as a winning strategy because his W scales off of bad decision making, Azir can have a second knockup at the price of putting himself in harm's way. How 'bout his E only has a knock up if you Q your soldiers after you cast it? That way there's still some skill in using it, Azir gets back some means of playing through the mid game in non-competitive by bringing some CC that isn't in Ult form, and it probably won't get too abused in competitive as it involves using your Q and thus investing a lot of mana, meaning enemy champs can counter by being ready to dodge and thus forcing Azir to back early.
Azir is a great champion and can 1v5 carry if played by the right person he is just one of the most difficult champions to play Something I feel like they can do to make him seem much more healthy to play is increase the range of his connection to his sand soldiers so he can auto with them from further away. I feel like its a very short range.
I think the "infinite" possibilities is kind of an exaggeration. I mean, surely there are "infinite" as there are also "infinite" ways of positioning; but I am sure that they can be categorized into patterns and groups of actions, simply more complex and in greater quantity.
This video is extremely disappointing. The author is either being completely disingenuous or is just ignorant to the fact that pro play is solely the reason behind why Azir had to be nerfed into the ground and is completely useless in solo queue. There is way too much emphasis put on other points that frankly, are just completely irrelevant. Pro play ruined Azir.
Love all your videos mate ^^ Keep up the good work, Now...as an Azir main...I wanna tell you this season I will reach Diamond with him and will come back to your video to say it! For real though, good points all throughout the video. Azir teaches you position and farming like no other because you die very fast if positioned wrong and without that cs lead you will be weak vs meta picks. He is THE EMPEROR, so it is kinda cool that he is not supposed to be played by everyone and requires a bigger time investment to get going^^ and now, I find him to be in a more balanced state than ever before -after the waterwall of nerfs and changes his kit suffers, for real though, E knockup, almost double range on soldies, wall repelling dashes, LMAO, he was such a monster
@@whatsmylife1235 nowhere in sight sadly. Even abandoned playing Azir alltogether (sad I did not get to enjoy the period he was kinda good again). So yea😂
I remember when I played azir before his mini rework (season 8 or 9). He was super cool and felt clean as shit when you pulled off some more advanced tech. His rework changed how you played him and a good chunk of his tech. I remember dropping him soon after as I was moving into the top lane around the same time. Still respect the boys who play azir.
I still remember when they disabled Azir on his release day due to him being able to solo Baron Nashor with 250 attack speed and the guinisoo rageblade
Damn good video honestly I was expecting a lot of disappointment as with most videos around Azir. You clearly did your research, good job, good video, I enjoyed it, thanks.
Surely if champions were balanced for each rank these problems wouldn’t exist. They should balance champs for diamond and below and then masters and above. Seems a lot more fair rather than having the meta constantly orientated around pro play which just makes the balance so toxic at low elo where the sheer majority of the players exist.
I just discovered you today, and really enjoyed your remade Aurelion Sol video. Great work! I'd be very interested to see a take on Rek'Sai, as she's one of my favorite champions to play, though I never see anyone else play her.
I feel like the soldiers from his wall should be able to attack like the summoned soldiers from his "w". Reduce or even remove the damage from the wall hit, and let the wall soldiers go ham like the rest.
I really wish they had gone a different route when balancing Azir. Conceptually, he's my favorite champion. His design and lore and everything are like a favorite color, when I see him I love it. But I can't play him because of his difficulty and his inability to flex. I hope he's in line for a rework to make him more accessible for the majority of the player base.
1 mil Azir here. A lot of what you said was spot on. The only reason I started playing him is because my friend said he’s the hardest champ in the game and I wanted to take on the challenge. Plus I also thought his kit was awesome. I definitely fall into that category of players that wants to take on a challenge by playing a difficult champ etc. else I would just switch to some broken champ and climb. I think his biggest weakness is “in game FF”. If they removed that from ranked then I think Azir would do better in solo queue. I can’t tell you how many winnable games I have lost because people just ff or grief. If FF wasn’t even an option and people had to play it out I honestly think my win rate would increase by a good amount. Too many silver/gold players that think they know the game/my champ and try to call the game early. In the games that did actually drag on...ive turned so many around and the griefers were shocked. So yeah that’s my biggest issue. I don’t mind all the weaknesses that Azir has, but I do mind investing 20-25 mins of my time in a game where people just ff and waste my time when it’s going perfectly fine. And yeah the fact that his kit is late game just makes it very hard for noobies to pick him up. When I first started playing Azir I remember being so frustrated by having no damage, high CD, mana problems and slow attack speed...I was so used to playing champs like Tryndamere so you can imagine how I felt lol. Compare that to other mechanically difficult champs like Lee sin who at least can do stuff early so it “feels” like you are actually doing something even if it’s your first time playing the champ. Azir feels clunky and like he has a wet noodle for his soldiers spears which can be frustrating to first timers Azir is a great anti siege champ as well as a great siege champ. He is one of the best imo for stalling games if you are losing cuz his wave clear is amazing and his passive turret can make it very difficult for the enemy to end the game. I wish more people would realize this and at least try to play it out till the end with me. Those are always the most fun games.
Oft you can start learning any champ in normal games. You can probably go that way: blind pick -> draft Pick-> flex -> soloQ. I did it with all champs that i started to play in ranked games. But its true that the time you play ranked makes you learn the fastest. And dont underestimate matchup knowledge. Its nearly as important as learning the mechanics.
As an Azir main it really sucks that bird boi gets nerfed because he gets seen too much in pro-play, and then the average solo-q player suffers because of it. However, the upside is that as a main you get to feel good playing him because he is a “pro-player’s champion”, and like you’ve said in the video, always fun to play. Amidst some of my frustrations playing Azir are also many moments where an outplay or kill is just way too hilarious to not play him. He is one of the most unique champions in the game and his kit flexibility makes him very enjoyable to play. Definitely my favorite champion in the game. Asol is a close second.
This video is definitely encouraging me to try out Azir cause the concept of a king 🤴 commanding his soldier sounds awesome and hearing that he is versatile with high skill ceiling and high reward but also high risk is something I absolutely love in a champion ❤. So Azir is definitely on my list.
Part of the reason that I love Azir is because he brings some of the elements of my favorite playstyles: control mages and assassins. Aside from Azir, two of my favorite champions to play are champions like Anivia and Elise, where Azir is a good middle ground for me. No it's not a perfect analogy considering he gets his damage mostly from Auto attacks but like what was said in the video, he feels like playing a good game of chess. The thing I love about Anivia is the feeling of almost toying with the opponent, and for Elise I love the high octane engage and outplay potential. Azir gives me both with soldier placement and high late game carry potential, while having tools like a good ol' shuriman shuffle for crazy engages.
I thought meta was the latin particle of "something withing something", which in this case would be "the game within the game" referring to how players tend to decide based on things that may not be obvious to people outside of the game
That's the regular definition of meta. But what gamers refer to as meta is M.E.T.A - Most Effective Tactic Available

Azir: creates a wall as an ultimate that can't be passed through without blinks
This is broken let's make his ult just raise a wall and that's it
Nah bro, his wall is strong because of the Shurima shuffle that knocks people back into a team after Azir essentially dashing 3 flashes long. It's a combo that they refuse to nerf despite being the only real problem in his kit and instead nerfing every other aspect of his kit but the shurima shuffle. I started League when Azir was first released. First character i bought was Azir. I lost game after game while i was trying to learn him.
Azir has been in one of his best states in a long time for months now :p
man I've felt this.
A spear formation (basically a V shape) - knockback on cast, acts like a soldier but isn't affected by q (they stay put) basically they auto targets in their range or at least in their cone of influence, enemies can walk through the "wall"
A defensive wall (same formation as his current ult) - no knockback and no damage, can move champions similar to when anivia or taliyah hits you directly with their walls, doesn't attack but prevents dashes, portions of the wall can be destroyed like yorick wall, gives azir a shield/ movement speed
also reverse his W range of control and attack plus making his passive cd go up to 300s but lasted forever and can have multiple turret

If a champion is only viable by being in Chess Grandmasters, then that champion need hard reworks.

15 minutes is a great length for these videos. Don't let what people say get to ya. You make 15 mins entertaining and informative
Yeap, i'm a tryhard who also wants to have fun AND win at the same time, which in turn made me a mid lane main after i discovered how fun and tactical Azir's kit really is. Even despite his identity as the "Only good in pro play or if you are crazy enough to main him" battle mage, i still enjoy him nowadays because of his versatility, having like 4 to 5 viable rune pages to run, and very strategic buildpaths, either as a poke/burst mage or as the AP marksman...i just love this poor lost Emperor. i still remembered when azir was just released and loved everything he had,the wall bounce on his R IMO was one of the best defensive things he had and avoided those dash type champions wich now the solider's walls feels useless and get shit on pretty quickly.
What i really want to see is how will they add him to wild rift.
Well they do alot of treatment for some Champions like Ramus and katarina probably they come up with something in their pocket
The drifts with shurima shuffle are satisfying tho. 10 times funnier Lee sin insecs
She just happens to have a metric shit-ton of animation cancelling
Aurelion is...

Thank you for the Explorers Time soundtrack; I feel like I'm climbing up the tower all over again.
Also if any melee champs come up to them they basically have no means of escape aside from r or flash because azir e can’t go through champs

Im main Azir and i can say no other champion in game look and feel so cool when played good like Azir. You feel so badass playing him and i dont have that feeling with any other champion.
Lee sin, GANGPLANK, Aatrox, Ekko, Riven and Aurelion sol: join the chat
Yeah, we wouldn't want a champion to have the ability to stop dashes on their ultimate
*looks at Poppy who has bonus armor and magic resist on top of the ability to stop all dashes*
*looks at Cassiopeia who can prevent all dashes and flash*
Wouldn't want that now, would we?
What music is it ? Makes me think of pokemon mystery dungeon explorer of time
Correct! :D
I remember the Azir release and being disabled for days due to bugs.
The old double passive scaling cdr and attack speed and his W destroying towers. Back in the “we’re overloading it because it’s cool af” days. Wild times.
"The average player mentality between normals and ranked is different."
*laughs in sea of inters running it down mid in ranked*
The music at the end is so beatiful!
That mystery dungeon music brings me back.
i dont understand why riot just not make his soldiers do on-hit
Because Kata needed it more on her ultimate. Ya know, cause that makes sense
Azir is a great champion and can 1v5 carry if played by the right person he is just one of the most difficult champions to play
Something I feel like they can do to make him seem much more healthy to play is increase the range of his connection to his sand soldiers so he can auto with them from further away. I feel like its a very short range.
it used to be almost twice that, that was the very first thing they nerfed on azir lmao
I think the "infinite" possibilities is kind of an exaggeration. I mean, surely there are "infinite" as there are also "infinite" ways of positioning; but I am sure that they can be categorized into patterns and groups of actions, simply more complex and in greater quantity.
Azir has one of, if not the coolest moveset design in the entire game. He also looks like a chozo kind of which makes me like him even more.
The Pokemon Mystery Dungeon music in the background gave me newfound respect for you
You mean you didn't respect me before? D:

Love all your videos mate ^^ Keep up the good work,
Now...as an Azir main...I wanna tell you this season I will reach Diamond with him and will come back to your video to say it!
For real though, good points all throughout the video. Azir teaches you position and farming like no other because you die very fast if positioned wrong and without that cs lead you will be weak vs meta picks.
He is THE EMPEROR, so it is kinda cool that he is not supposed to be played by everyone and requires a bigger time investment to get going^^ and now, I find him to be in a more balanced state than ever before -after the waterwall of nerfs and changes his kit suffers, for real though, E knockup, almost double range on soldies, wall repelling dashes, LMAO, he was such a monster
well where's the diamond?
@@whatsmylife1235 nowhere in sight sadly. Even abandoned playing Azir alltogether (sad I did not get to enjoy the period he was kinda good again).
So yea😂
I remember when I played azir before his mini rework (season 8 or 9). He was super cool and felt clean as shit when you pulled off some more advanced tech. His rework changed how you played him and a good chunk of his tech. I remember dropping him soon after as I was moving into the top lane around the same time. Still respect the boys who play azir.
Perfect choice of music.
I still remember when they disabled Azir on his release day due to him being able to solo Baron Nashor with 250 attack speed and the guinisoo rageblade
Honestly just some really good points. I stand by you
Not even gonna watch the video i can give you the reason:
Passive - useless
ult- you cast and die, ult does nothing

Damn good video honestly I was expecting a lot of disappointment as with most videos around Azir. You clearly did your research, good job, good video, I enjoyed it, thanks.
Were you expecting a personal attack? :^)
@@VarsVerum nah just usually people are completely wrong when they talk about azir but you got pretty much everything on point
I genuinely think Azir’s skill ceiling has not even been close to touched
Legend says that while stronger is the character on Lore, less played it is
Today I learned what meta stands for. I understood it as a term in general but this video made it make more sense. Thanks!
I didn't know meta stood for something until now. Also Azir is not a chicken!
I was so sad when they took away the main aspect of his ult... A completely impassable wall that you could only get past with flash
Great content mate keep it up!!!

Azir feels clunky and like he has a wet noodle for his soldiers spears which can be frustrating to first timers
Azir is a great anti siege champ as well as a great siege champ. He is one of the best imo for stalling games if you are losing cuz his wave clear is amazing and his passive turret can make it very difficult for the enemy to end the game. I wish more people would realize this and at least try to play it out till the end with me. Those are always the most fun games.
I listen to these like a podcast in bed and i love it
Excellent choice of music, Temporal Tower FTW
Ive been actively playing videogames for 5 years now, since i was 12, and only now i know wat META stands for
Oft you can start learning any champ in normal games.
Oh wow Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers music in the opening, nice!
