When he screams “I can’t hold myself together” it fades but then comes full circle at the end when it’s brought back in. This song hits so hard…the emotion in this song…
The call back to lyrics in other songs like The Love You Want and TMBTE, etc that you noticed! All the connections is why ST is so great. They weave such a story through their music, it’s truly art
I agree with you on the weight of two line. This song to me is about two damaged people drowning and clawing at each other trying to survive. That's a big way rescuers drown, too - being pulled under by someone in a panic. In a moment of clarity (his hell, her high water) he has the realization that he has to let go or they both go under. And despite the love he has for her, and being unsure if he's strong enough to save himself, he makes the decision to let go and try. She can't save them both, and in trying to save her he's going under, too, faster than he would alone. Now he's hoping he can at least save himself (hold himself together) long enough to reach shore. Metaphorically, of course.
I completely agree!! Now I really didn't get the holding the weight of two as a drowning or a saving someone that is drowning until now!!! I was just thinking about it in a personal sense!! Damn that is a great analogy!
Gahhhh 😭 High Water is soooo upsettingly beautiful. Reminds me of a hard time in my life, but now I can reflect back on in it a positive way and appreciate it. God, an amazing song. Love to you and your reactions 🙏🏻
the ending is definitely the drowning you were talking about. on the album record the songs are listed at different depths. starting from the first one closer to sea level and with each song the depth goes deeper. the whole album is drowning.
This may be one of my favorites of your reactions. I loved how you interpreted the lyrics and weren’t afraid to get personal. And how you felt the music and the emotions, thank you
Haven't even watched the video yet, but man. This is my song. Perfect expression of the feelings that came along with my divorce. For me, this is the greatest song ever composed. It's my favorite. Thank you for putting the time and effort into this one. Thank you
So I just finished the video. Yea. Don't ever be sorry for being personal here. That's the reason I come here. We haven't met, but from everything you've told us on the channel, I feel like you know me. Because from the sounds of it, we share a lot of similar experiences. To me, that ending is drowning. Drowning in the pain, the suffering. The gut wrenching scream at the end. I appreciate you sir. I wish I could put more into words, but this one always gets me really emotional. So I'll leave it at thank you
Had to pull over to calm down cause phew! Wow what a song, for me the ending or the breakdown if you will i have always taken literal , as in when the song is breaking down so is he , i love how it goes from yeah you know i can hold my breath forever , if i can hold myself together to the ending where hes breaking down now its "i cant hold myself together" almost like he can be tough or strong if you will in front of her but once shes gone or now that shes gone he breaks down and he cant be strong any longer , so in the end he is pulling himself beneath the waves . Cant wait for the next song btw its been amazing going through this journey, idk about you but personally i wouldnt mind if you rewatched some of the songs you already listened to in take me back to eden now that youve been through the whole story and can maybe piece some more things together but its all up to you of course cant wait for the next video Worship!
I really like how you've come to realize that Vessel has deep-rooted feelings for this person/entity, that he's not just simping for someone he had a fling with once. This person is permanently etched into his being and not someone he can just ignore and forget. I think we've all had a relationship like this once, and whether or not it worked out, that person is forever etched into our past and whatever feelings existed then will be there forever.
Great video, I've been loving your insights as it really is great to get different perspectives / interpretations on music we love! There are pics out there showing what appear to be scars on vessels left arm I believe in reference to the self harm lyric here. Can't wait for your take on missing limbs! One of my favorites!
It also feels to me like he’s harboring a bit of jealousy at how much he has to feel while part of him or some other person/thing doesn’t appear to feel or suffer that loss at all. Something that hits me so deeply
There can def be a bit of jealousy... I never thought about that even in my life situation. Dang! I can see how I may have hurt her bc of that jealousy. Made it worse instead of helping... Crazy!
@ I’m definitely guilty of that. But at the same time it does seem so unfair. That someone should carry so much hurt and another party doesn’t seem to. Or not outwardly. I think expectations are sort of the problem there maybe… 🤔
th things you were saying about diving into your darkest depths absolutely blew my mind for a moment. You said that when we are comfortable in our own darkest space that is when true change happens. you have to realize you are comfortable in that space before you can change anything. And I think this is Vessel actually realizing it and that just messes me up more about this song. Great reaction! I love how you got really deep into it.
I have loved following you guys through this entire journey and I want you to know that what you guys are doing is absolutely amazing to witness. It’s so beautiful to see you guiding other people, especially men into a space to understand some of their own trauma and that it’s okay to hurt. To be weak. To need help. To need love and support. That they deserve it. As much as I want to dive into what this song means for me, and boy do I, I just wanted to tell you how much love I have for you, your son and what you bring to the community through Sleep Token, and breaking it down. Thank you.
6:03 You're 100% correct. It's about how each of us interprets it and the meaning it has for us. We likely all interpret a bit differently, but we have one thing in common for sure - this music has helped us all grow in one way or another.
It's cool bro. There's nothing you can do. That song just reaches into your soul. Listening to that song brings me back to a pain I had in 1996. Something that's still with me today. I went on the sleep token journey starting last year, and I'm still stuck right in the middle of it. I find it hard to listen to other music right now. So glad you and your boy are enjoying it too. Love your reactions and your dissections of the songs. Appreciate you!
Wow. I never even thought about the mayday siren! If you think about how a mayday call sounds it’s repetitive - the same tones over and over to gain attention. That literally stopped me in my tracks while I was prepping dinner - and everyone in my life knows, no one breaks my focus when I’m in the kitchen. 😂 Yet another phenomenal lyric breakdown!
First!!! 😅 This song is really good..... I love it so much. The scars on Vessel's left forearm are usually covered by the black paint they use on their bodies, but he has 3 noticable scars there when he is sweaty and the paint had thinned. Not sure if it was a suicide attempt or just cutting that some people do (self harm), but yeah. Pretty tragic imo. My daughter used to cut when she was in Highschool, but she's 21 now, eloped and married a boy i only met like twice (sigh 🙄) and she has stopped doing that (self-harming) 😊She wants to go in the Air Force, but she has to have clearance from her psychiatrist before she can go in. We'll see if she still follows that path...I hope she does. The beauty of ST is that people can plug their own experiences and emotions into their songs. We have all felt some type of way and can relate to Vessel's emotions. His pain and anguish is so palpable, he is such a genius in how to express emotions many of us don't know how to. That's the main reason we as fans can relate. Loving the journey, Man! Keep going, you're almost back where you started 😅. Worship ❤
I've been waiting for this one! These are some of the deepest lyrics I've ever heard, they really hit hard. I remember seeing someone explain that ending section as not only a musical breakdown, but literally the sound of a mental breakdown. You definitely felt the same way on that. Vessel literally put beautiful sound to a complex feeling and NAILED it. Also, no need to apologize for getting too personal. I enjoy your reactions for that reason. You really help illustrate some things with your experience and I'm here for it. Before you do Missing Limbs, look up the condition called Phantom Limb Pain (I've also heard it called Missing Limb Syndrome)
Re-listen to The Apparition after listening to High Water. There's a lot of connections between the lyrics, and there's even some parallels between then sonically 😌 that distorted submarine radar beeping is one of my favorite effects in their whole discography
wonderful reaction ! i think maybe vessel could have been a lost lover of the goddess of sleep, who (vessel) has reincarnated in this realm or is in a loop caught in cycles. Deities are accountable to muchh higher levels of gods so it may be difficult for her to be with vessel in this world. the after life is much more beautiful than where we are and its hard to come back after seeing the pleasures. you just dont get picked on a draw of a hat so he has past life experices for sure.
This song must be related to Atlantic. I read that Atlantic is about a car accident where vessel was driving and his unborn daughter “built by future daughters” was killed. The ended up with major lacerations on his arm “bandage up the trenches” and then the reference to “what the scars on his arms are for” in this song really make me think.
talk your shit man. Eden will be heartbreak and repair. TMBTE came out at my lowest during my divorce and now i have lyrics... well runes... from ascensionism tattooed on me. it will forever be personally entwined in my redemption story.
I have a fan tumblr page and I have seen many concert photos of him. He has a lot of self-harm scars. That's what you meant...I guess. The terms are not that important because you got your point across😉. He also has (a bit more hidden on the innerside of both his left forearm and his right forearm) scars from a sucide attempt. So he has both. Idk...I mean I'm sorry for that honest comment. Years of just looking at so many photos of him. It's sad but I can relate and also I can't express in words how much it means to me that he is still with us.
This song is an absolute masterpiece, where’s your kiddo? I miss him! Much love from Alaska 🤗 it’s been great to go through this ST journey with you guys!
Buckle up for Missing Limbs
Damn... Kinda scared a little lol
Miss the pair of you together, but flying solo you've done a hell of a job breaking down these last few vids. Bravo
Miss him too!! He def makes it a little easier and adds a great perspective!
When he screams “I can’t hold myself together” it fades but then comes full circle at the end when it’s brought back in. This song hits so hard…the emotion in this song…

This song is top tier! One of Sleep Tokens best songs in my opinion! Worship!
It’s getting better and better the more I listen to it!

Facts!!!

Probably my favourite Sleep Token song ❤
I can't argue...
This grew on me and is absolutely my favourite
One of my favorites song. This songs makes sad and it beautiful
It's a double whammy for sure! LOL
Whammy is probably showing my age! LOL

A lot of us seem to really be on the same page as far as relationships go!! Its the biggest mirror and growth tool I can think of...

No doubt!! It was really heavy!
Love the whole outro of this song, and glad that you interpret the heavy guitars as his screaming. It gives me the same feelings too
He's screaming something specific! I wish I knew exactly what he was saying while he was playing it.
I really like how you've come to realize that Vessel has deep-rooted feelings for this person/entity, that he's not just simping for someone he had a fling with once. I can see that now!
It also feels to me like he’s harboring a bit of jealousy at how much he has to feel while part of him or some other person/thing doesn’t appear to feel or suffer that loss at all. Something that hits me so deeply

@UncleTrebor really glad you love this one - it's underappreciated imo

We appreciate you too fam!! I really do find it hard to listen to other music without the same depth to it...
Great video, Unc!
I appreciate that nephew! Lets keep moving!

yeah Atlantic is all about the attempt. and those marks are the evidence. someone in the reaction broke down the lyrics to the event. its wild.
Thank you!!! Self harm is def the term I was looking for. Really hope she does and shes doing well!! She'll be in my thoughts!!
@@UncleTrebor thank you 🙂
I read somewhere that the ringing at the end of the song that sounds like screaming is meant to be the sound of your ears ringing as your drowning.
Damnnnnnn.... It was already scary enough!
I've been waiting for this one! These are some of the deepest lyrics I've ever heard, they really hit hard. Great reaction and reflection man, you were spot on with the meaning of the breakdown at the end of the song.
If you go back and listen to “Atlantic” he talks about his attempts and It seems to then go on to describe the aftermath of surviving his attempt
Great song!!! And an even better reaction. Spot on bro!!
Thanks for the support!!
Re-listen to The Apparition after listening to High Water. There's a lot of connections between the lyrics, and there's even some parallels between then sonically 😌 that distorted submarine radar beeping is one of my favorite effects in their whole discography
Done!!!!! That's my sleeper track so far for TMBTE!!
Look for a picture of Vessel at a show in daylight, you can see scars on his left arm.

@@UncleTreboroh you can absolutely see both! That’s the beauty of it. It’s all open to interpretation and how the listener digests it.
Fucked up thing is there's close up videos out there of Vessel in concert and bro for real got scars on his wrists. 😢
talk your shit man. Eden will be heartbreak and repair. TMBTE came out at my lowest during my divorce and now i have lyrics... well runes... from ascensionism tattooed on me. it will forever be personally entwined in my redemption story.

By saying we 'both' did he meant Gemma? 🤔
