    Dining in HK, once a bowl / plate is empty, the staff will immediately clear it away. Another thing that shocked me when I first encountered it: Combining different groups of customers into a single table, like the staff is playing Tetris. Sometimes it can be quite dynamic like shifting to another table while eating.

    • @ymhktravel
      @ymhktravel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This happens too in Singapore they clear your plates once it look empty to them. I still have some morsels on it and the auntie attempted to clear so I gave her a piece of my mind. actually kinda rude. It's have been better to wait until the person leaves. Well now that in Singapore you have to clear your own, this should happen less.

    Came to Singapore when I was 2 in 92' from Hong Kong cause my dad found a job here that pays better, it was really nice hearing someone from my birth country. I've stopped using Cantonese since my parents passed (never had the chance, I talk to myself often in Cantonese so I don't forget it), so it's really comforting hearing it again knowing that the person speaking is residing in the same country as I am. Cheers

    There are good things about having 4 seasons, though it may also end up having extreme heat in summer and extreme cold in winter. Countries with 4 seasons have something to look forward to in every season in terms of activities, performances, natural scenery, fashion to go with it, etc. As for HK, been there before, the difference is you don't really have autumn or spring (leaves turn golden or red, flowers in full bloom) and winter is just very cold or rainy or strong winds, no snow...so it's still a little boring. Yet summer can be very hot there.

    • @IrenereneHK
      @IrenereneHK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pros and Cons 😬 still fine for me😆

    • @Cecilia-
      @Cecilia- 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As someone who lives in the northeast of the USA with all 4 seasons, extreme winters where you have to shovel snow non stop and extreme summers, all I can say is no thank you. Plus with climate changes, tornados+hurricanes, and flooding in this summer (nyc) not sure what is coming this winter. And with every tiny shift of temperature from season changes (summer to fall, spring to summer, fall to winter) a cold ensues.

    I totally agree with General Waiter's Attitude. I mean I am there for eating. My friends and I went to the Cha Chaan Teng mentioned in the video. We don't mind sitting together cause is also a norm if you can't find seats during peak hour in hawker center/foodcourt. But when we called the waiter, the waiter told my friend to faster and hurry up your order. Then when my friend said very fast, the waiter didn't hear and then scold my friend.

    Hk is land scarce, rental is very high, property price is super high, very competitive society. Finish your food, get out! Thats life . No comment. I am from Malaysia been there few times on self travelling. I experience it. No right or wrong. Nevertheless, HK has much more character compare to SG. Many hills and vast ocean view , with big land mass and nature, interesting islands ( a few) to getaway. Finally, most of all , year end winter 12c to 20c. Just nice not too cold, love it. Yes!, Singapore is cleaner . And HK is not too dirty either.

    I stayed in HK for a while many years ago, and totally relate to the examples you quoted. Indeed I had the same experience at that particular 茶餐廳 you mentioned. And somemore we had to sit at really tiny cart位, with complete stranger right opposite me. And the example that it was hard to stretch our arms at home, was quite true too. I recalled my bathroom was so small I couldn't stretch my arms to wash. And oh, the winter part totally relatable. Every morning during winter, I had to run to the bathroom, quickly wash up, and back to hide under the blanket. And I must say sometime it was quite difficult to look for public toilet while outside, and sometime the malls only had one toilet every 2 or 3 floors. So there would always have a long queue..

    In the past until late 90s or early 2000s, Hong Kong had always been ahead of Singapore. But Singapore's economy had overtaken Hong Kong for some time and now has even higher GDP per capita. The problem with Hong Kong especially when it comes to housing, the deveopers had a little too much influence in policies and even politics which made housing unaffordable for most Hong Kongers. Meanwhile Singapore had succeeded in not letting developers or the super rich to have influence on the government policies.
    And I also find the freedom of speech in Hong Kong can be pretty extreme at times. Singapore meanwhile is almost the opposite whereby medias are mostly controlled and monitored and free speech are limited. But it turned out well for the country. I know most people in Hong Kong do not like to hear this but stability and social order are the most important element for a country to progress. Even China learnt from Singapore when they started opening up in the late 70s and realised that a much controlled freedom of speech and medias can also drive the economy forward, unlike what the west had always preached that only freedom can drive the country forward. And today, we have seen many western democratic countries already stagnanted and even faced many financial crisis, even before the pandemic.

    About 10 years ago, I went Hong Kong, I remember it is VERY VERY hard to find a toilet in the public or even inside shopping malls. My friends and I were walking up and down the Mongkok area cannot find one. Finally we saw a M fastfood, must have toilet right? We went in, and we had shock of our lives. Inside is all dark black, it is like the sewage had burst or what, stains all over on the walls. We could not stand the smell and looks (cannot imagine it is M). Then one of us had to beg a mall's security guard to lend us their staff toilet, seeing we are tourist, he was nice let us have a quick use. THANK YOU...

    Sg outcompete HK in every aspect of life EXCEPT for food!! Food and drink in HK is still much better than in Sg, be it 叉烧 or 牛河 or 小炒 or homemade Ice lemon tea or any others。。。For example, for ice lemon tea in HK you'll find at least 3 slices of thick cut lemon in your glass, but in Sg don't be surprised if you can't find any lemon, well in most cases you'll be able to get a tiny paperslim slice...And the food portion size in any HK eateries is much much much bigger than in Sg!!! I need to have 3 肉挫面 for a meal to be full the first time I came here...next day I asked for up up size 福建虾面。。。then the following day I just told the uncle for 8 dollar 卤面。。。

    HK must rethink, re-engineer ... its land usage policies to benefit 80-90% of its people. It is putting too much stress on the HK people. One of the policy difference between HK & Singapore is that: land sales is NOT considered part of Singapore's Govt revenue unlike HK, where land sales is a major portion of revenue. So to finance the HK Govt, high land property prices actually benefit the HK Govt. In Singapore:
    "Land sales proceeds are not part of our revenue and cannot be directly used for expenditure. Instead they are invested, and we use part of the investment returns to support the spending needs of Singaporeans." - Clarifications on the Government’s cash receipt and revenue, April 2021
    HK Govt need to re-formulate its tax revenue policies to rely less on land sales.

    香港社會對子女太刻薄!香港政策優惠 地產大亨 不是人民。That's the main problem for HK people. 20+ years ago, 1997-2003, my HK colleagues already highlighted how tough it is for them to buy a house, get married, form a family. Now it is 2-3X worse because property prices have gone up 2-3X. I think the entire property market is captured by the property magnates?? In Singapore, it is public policy: housing, land is for the benefit of the public. Not speculation investment. Set over 50years ago by Lee KY.
    If HK solve this property issue, most of the problems you highlighted will go away. There is a sharp mis-allocation of land resources, resulting in inadequate supply of facilities, food courts, public toilets... insufficient and too small housing ... But HK people must accept that property is for the HK citizens living and not 炒樓價.

      Property issue wont be solved, too many issues at hand, nature lovers want their land, properties development companies kept stocking up their land banks, property owners want their apartment prices to continue rising. Only possibility is when China comes in and provides land in the proximity will the demands be relieved.
