- I sat down with a prominent member of the Brooke Dynasty, that once rules Sarawak. Jason Brooke loves Sarawak and spends much of his time in this Malaysian State. It was great to sit down with him and ask him questions about his family legacy and Sarawak in general.

Jason has a very rich history in his name. You can see that he is very proud with his legacy being a direct descendent of a very prolific family. As an Orang Ulu it makes me wonder what did my ancestors do during the time of the Rajahs? Did my ancestors joined any wars or revolutions or they just have a simple living in the jungles of Ulu Baram? Fascinating. Maybe this is a good rabbit hole to fall into🤔😅. Nice interview. I hope that someday Jason can visit other regions in Sarawak too.

I'm a Sarawakian full of iban blood, also a proud Partisan of christ too, I've always keep my tradition, culture and ancestor in me to guide me through this life, I've always embrace them and officially consider them as my identities, never abandoned nor shall forgot my roots, I'm a very proud Sarawakian, a young lad who love his history a lot, I wish jason brooke and his families stay alive, healthy and prosperous, same with you too Nick! Teach all the young Sarawakian about our True history's and roots! May our his'try shalt radiate around the globes! Exposed and spread our roots above the world!

For those who doesn't know or understand why this man who has Brooke as his last name is considered nostalgic and important to Sarawakian..Well, he is the great great grandson of Sarawak's first official ruler, Rajah James Brooke (appointed by the Queen of England at that time).
Well, he is the great great grandnephew of Rajah James. James had no legitimate sons and was succeeded by his nephew, Rajah Charles, from whom Jason is descended.

The property looked very beautiful, what is it, a hotel? I really like the big white columns, wooden floor, the European style door surrounding the mansion.
Perhaps, if you meet Jason again, you could ask him how the Brooke family became the Rajas of Sarawak from the Sultan of Brunei. Was it a part of the British colonialism in Malaya, Penang, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak.

Our ancestors (Rentap and others) have been vilified for fighting against Brooke. Although our history was written by the European occupiers lest us not forget 😢some of our history such as the genocide of the Kajaman peoples (Brooke's Upper Rajang Expedition). Just don't let them to feel entitled

what confuses me really is how a European, who may or may not speak the local language, came over to Sarawak as an adult, became king through dealings with another king, and the people readily accepted him as their king? Isn't that strange? Just shows how subservient some societies are. Suppose the other way around, suppose a middle-aged Bornean with barely any English becomes king of England. that would be funny.
In the popular Sarawakian history (In other words basically the local oral legend),
the Brooke family had soldiers. Cooperated with the local leaders and Brunei. Abolished headhunting among the tribes (enforced with the soldiers)(Probably should stress how significant this was).
They created peace among the many previously warring groups. This paved the way for unity. They also promoted development.
Hearing this popular history, you can probably see why the family was popular and is romanticised in Sarawak.
I think you need to know the real history to appreciate it. It's definitely not subservience.

I don’t think he has any title. His ancestors did, but he doesn’t.
With out brooke family..may be we will still head hunter..till now (thank you)..but on the history..our ancestors don't like the taxes was to high, that brooke families charge for the poor villager..

Rosli Dhoby fought to bring back the Brooke into Sarawak and was killed by the British he probably had a positive view on Rosli Dhoby. Rentap on the other hand, not all Ibans liked him as well. Take that as you will.
Anthony brooke, grandfather of jason is allege to take part with rosli dhobi & co in the murder of duncan. Anthony was banned from coming to swak bcoz of that

Jason..you as a Brooke legacy, you need to claim your rights as a rajah (king) Brooke legacy although there is an agreement signed before at least your (Brooke legacy) face/identity will always can be recognised by the people of Sarawakian..in my opinion..😊😊
