Mikael's lyrics have always been the most underrated aspect of Opeth. His ability to paint a picture and describe thoughts and feelings are really well done
ORCHID and MORNINGRISE are magical. Love, LOVE the folky riffage throughout. You can definitely swim in your mind and go to magical places with music like this.
I haven't watched your channel in a while and this was such a wonderful treat to find in my feed! You are awesome and you helped me through some really rough years of my life.❤❤❤
Opeth and Morningrise had all really long songs, and they were my favorite albums for a long time. They really let you sink into the groove before they move on : )
About your last question: the first Opeth record I bought, having heard nothing of them at that point, was Morningrise, and I bought it because of a blurb in the cd case that said something like this: "66 minutes of the best swedish extreme metal in only 5 tracks".....and to this day, it is still my favourite record (alongside Watershed), so yes, I prefer the long songs, from eight minutes onward.....It is great that you finally did one song from their debut album, but I hope you do in the near future another song form Morningrise (you already did To Bid You Farewell). My track suggestion: The Night and The Silent Water.....I know you love BASS, and there is plenty of BASS, acoustic guitars, heavy guitars, early demon maturing, clean vocals, plenty of ossitions....the whole package. PD: I still have hope that before Halloween ends you do Type O Negative's cover of Black Sabbath`s song, Black Sabbath. I know I asky you many times, forgive me for being annoying, but I can´t think of a better song for Halloween that that one. Thanks Lauren
After numerous members came and left Opeth between 1990 and 1994, the band finally stabilized to record their debut album 'Orchid' w/ Mikael Akerfeldt (vocals/ guitar), Peter Lindgren (guitar), Anders Nordin (drums) and Johan De Farfalla (bass)... the same line-up that recorded their 2nd album 'Morningrise' (1996). Both Nordin and De Farfalla left the band in 1997... Martin Lopez (drums) played on their 1998 album 'My arms your hearse'... and Martin Mendez (bass) joined around the same time and played on their 1999 album 'Still life'... the same line-up recorded the iconic Opeth album 'Blackwater Park' in 2001.
“Orchid” was quite the stellar first offering from OPETH and Mikael had just turned 21 when this album dropped and from the first listen (if you were into this sort of music) you knew they were going to be something special(.) Their sound was raw & unrefined (not in a bad sense) & like a livewire. The compositions were heavy and very progressive and unpredictable, incorporating so many different elements & genres into the music, and they were just getting started. His death growls were yet to drop into a more baritone, lower register, but we’re still formidable. I believe his were/are the absolute best of them all, and his were the one that really got me into them. He/they became my favorite artists and I’m very much looking forward to the new album dropping!! Thanks, as always, Lauren, for your unique channel & perspective, and your love of Mikael & OPETH!! ✌🏼, 🫶🏼, & 🤘🏼
You gotta check out Zetra. They have a bit of Type of Negative mixed with 80's synth pop mixed with Katatonia kinda, idk, they're just amazing, you'll love it!
You see Johnny Depp playing in the woods. I'm too damaged by Norweigan Black Metal. They often got hilarious music videos. I see Immortal, Dark Throne, Emperor, Abbat, Mayhem etc - It is said that 90% of the work load of a Swedish ranger consists of finding Norweigans lost in the woods while making bad-quality, low resulution black metal music videos.

The evolution of Mikael the demon...
Early era - wild forest demon
Mid era - village demon
Later years - castle demon
this is accurate

The live version from DVD is a masterpiece!

Perfect Halloween song 🤘. Anders and DeFarfella were great in early Opeth
Very somber and depressing.
But the chugs and that guitar tone is so yummy.
Good stuff, Lauren.
Belated Happy Halloween!

I really like the longer Opeth tracks, but mainly from albums after the first 2 or 3.
