    I kinda wish this horror movie took into consideration the absolute *loathing* the real life Christopher Robin had for his father and the legacy he had no choice in being a part of. That would've made for an actually interesting premise imo: how a character grows up with constant reminders of his past perpetuated by other people and being seemingly unable to escape from them.
    But no, we get generic silent serial killer with a bear mask on.

      You could actually incorporate that into the film, maybe have adult Christopher be troubled by the constant reminder of his famous father and the books to the point where it affects his psyche, and he can't distinguish fiction from reality. Perhaps he imagines the characters from the books as monsters, unaware that *he's* actually the killer.

    My biggest issue with Blood and Honey is that it really doesn't do enough with a genuinely cool concept and in particular I feel what cements this is comparing it to another trendy, kind of meme film which is The Mean One, the slasher about the Grinch that had Art the Clown playing the dude.
    The Mean One LIVES for its stupidity. It fully understands that it's a cheap one-note joke but goddamn, it will make sure it gets all the use out of that joke from actually clever references to Seuss's work to the Grinch being as animated as the Jim Carrey version to just the fun crazy kills we get, it's a movie that has fun with itself. If you watch it and know not to take it seriously? You'll have a blast.
    Blood and Honey is literally just the most paint-by-numbers slasher but the killers bought a special Winnie the Pooh DLC pack hence the costumes and the thing is it didn't have to be. The kill with the bees? Genuinely cool and it could've benefit the film if they used it more like maybe if the bees buzzing was used as like Pooh's take on Jason's "Ki ki ki ma ma ma". If they talked? We could've heard some neat twisted variations on classic Pooh lines. Kills could've been macabre twists on events from Pooh media but they instead opted for something so basic and as a result? I don't see any passion or love, I just see as James A. Janisse once said, clickbait horror.

    Yes.
    And no, the low budget is no excuse for bad filmmaking.
    You see for example the Spanish horror film REC was made cheap for 2007 standards and even OG Evil Dead adjusted for inflation is still less than what this abomination costs.
    The director of this lacks one important thing: talent

    • @Stand_By_For_Mind_Control
      @Stand_By_For_Mind_Control 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Lacking talent isn't the problem it's lacking earnestness. I LOVE Troll 2 because the talentless director made something he set out to make and work hard on. There's an honesty to that even if the marketing afterward was cynical and trying to cash in.
      The opposite is a movie like Malignant, where a talented director (Jams Wan) tried to intentionally make something bad but that was talent without earnestness.

    • @konkavstylisten
      @konkavstylisten 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      YES! Tired of the "it's hard to do a good horror film on a low budget" trope. Some of the best horror films in recent memory was made on a way lower budget than Blood and Honey. Skinamarink 15k. The void (2016) 80k and One Cut of the Dead had a budget of 25k!
      Especially horror productions seem to have a talent of using every single cent of the budget to your advantage. Blood and Honey is just a joke in every regard.

    • @Stand_By_For_Mind_Control
      @Stand_By_For_Mind_Control 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@konkavstylisten Yeah Horror is the best genre for low budgets. It's why there's so many famous directors who started doing horror. Because it's where innovation and creativity shine. Like James Cameron and Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi. All of those guys started by making movies they either self funded or were VERY cheap but they're all actually super watchable films. Bad Taste, Evil Dead, Cameron's short film Xenogenesis.
      Doing impressive things like that is why low budget horror can shine but a lot of the time (see: The Asylum), it's not even trying to shine, it's just trying to pump out a product but a cheap one with no overhead.

    I think I lowkey hate this movie. I tried to watch it and just stopped somewhere in the middle. It's cheaply made in all the worst ways so it shows and the acting is okay at best.
    But what is probably the worst part is that it doesn't really do anything new or interesting with it's sourcematerial. Not really. The whole basic of the movie is "hey look at this cute childrens cartoon character do brutal things". That consept is nowhere new since internets fanfic and -art forums started. The key for it to work well is in how you bring a new dark point of view to whatever you're adapting. And this has nothing to do with Winnie the Pooh. The characters and setpieces are there, but change those and what's left? Absolutely nothing what's not already in other billion slasher movies out there.
    I'm also dissapointed that this movie made enough money on meme-status alone to give these idiots a chance to keep doing more. I'm not coming back for Peter Pan or Bambi or whatever they'll adapt next to make a basically the same shitty movie.
    Also sidenote, I think this might be the most misogynistic horror-movie I've seen in resent memory. All the victims are women and the only male-character of importance gets away in the end. Even the 80's and 90's slasher-franchises attempted for more ballanced bodycounts. But in this the gruesomness of some of the deaths of these girls feels like it's telling of something deeper.

    I think the rant on setting a story in the UK but then consistently using American terminology is a valid complaint to have. It's just poor writing. If your creating a story that' set in another country than your own, you HAVE to commit to that. You have to do the research. You can't write it like they're the same place. If you don't want to be bothered, then make it take place in your own country.

  • @JeweloftheWorld2000
    @JeweloftheWorld2000 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Okay, very American interpretation, but this film reminds me of "don't feed the bears" PSAs. You're not supposed to feed wild animals because then they can lose the ability to feed themselves. They'll keep going to humans to provide them food, usually by digging through trash. Being in close proximity to each is usually bad for both humans and wild animals.
    Presumably the creatures survived somehow before Christopher Robin came around, but they couldn't anymore after he took care of them. And then they resorted to eating people.

Doubly so for the team's previous work, "Birdboy: The Forgotten Children."

    I feel like inverting this story - have Christopher Robin break bad and the toys attempt to reason and ultimately do battle with him might be a better way to spin this if you're really committed to making a Pooh horror film. Granted, that's probably a scenario that requires at least part way convincing animated toys, whether puppets or CG, or just folks in costumes scaled down with effects. Probably outside the budget of something like this without a great deal of creativity.

      It's ok to enjoy a film even if it's bad. There is a term for it (so bad it's good), and if you choose to go into that rabbit hole you'll find a whole new dimension of entertainment. Not sure how much you are in to that type of stuff. But a good entry would be through: The Room (2003. With Tommy Wiseau, not the Brie Larsson one hahaha), Wild Zero (exceptional Japanese zombie horror starring and made by an actual noise rock band), Troll 2 and Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky. Some of these are on Tubi, the rest must be "Jack Sparrowed" unfortunately.

    As eye-rolling as these horror films made to capitalize on an IP becoming public domain has been, the comcept of a Pooh horror story isn't that bad of a concept. Especially if you play with either psychological angle with Christopher Robin's wild imagination taking the better of him in a dark turn or a more supernatural, animalistic side, where the talking animals begin to revert back into primal creatures driven by bloodlust.

      We already have a "Horror" themed Winnie the Pooh movie, it's called "Pooh's Grand Adventure."
      It tackles how fear & seperation can turn somethings scarier when your imagination goes wild, and it had a much scarier "villain" in the form of the Skullasaurus (even if it was just the loud echoes of Pooh's rummbly tummbly, it still sounds scary to most who don't know where the sound is coming from & a monster from the imagination is more threatening than one you can physically see).

Like for a while when we where getting "Grind House" style films, and it was largely just wink and nod with artificial filters put over it to make it look like a cheaper film
    As oppose to someone trying their best to make a film within their limitation.

    My idea for a dark and subversive Winnie the Pooh would be a kind of alternate history take where Christopher Milne's difficulty in school and subsequent military service were significantly worse. It would start out with him as child and (because magic, or whatever) his father's books managed to bring the characters to life and they try to be his friend and help him with his bullying but he just resents them. Then when he comes back from war, he discovers that in his absence, his father's books magically manifested Christopher Robin from the books into reality. So while he was out fighting, a perfect and immortal version of himself got to have fun lighthearted adventures with what was supposed to be Milne's best friends. The movie would end with Milne going all Rambo and capturing Christopher Robin, Pooh, and the others and selling them to an evil corporation to be immortal entertainments who'll never age, don't need to be paid, and don't have any real rights of their own. It's a grim ending, until you catch on to the fact that the existence of the film, in a meta sense, implies that the manifested characters obtained some sort of freedom.
