Hear question: "So in your view, no regrets because we are learning from your mistakes?" -- Talk about about brazen, straight talk. Kudos to the interviewer.

"If perhaps we don't pursue public policies which further exacerbate the divisions that already exist; because we do have divisions along ethnic and religious lines in this country, could we perhaps have stood a better chance of making it as a nation that is not fractured along these lines"
Ok Guys, let me first break this down - the question, in the above context, is basically "do you (Babangida) think joining OIC further worsens the existing ethnic and religious division in Nigeria?". He goes "my answer to that is YES". Clearly, he did not understand the question. If he did, his answer would have been NO. He did not mean to join OIC (a public policy here) so he could create more problems even if he did not mind dealing with problems.
The fact of the matter is that these men (babangida, obasanjo, gowon, abacha and the rest of them - military rulers) are just soldiers OK. Crude, have what it takes to seize power, so they seized power - good for them. But what have they done with it? if you are crude, you are crude and nothing can be done about it. Nothing good can ever come out of an indiscretion - crude soldier with no plan! Well, I call it indiscretion, they perhaps call it "my time to rule and I will do whatever I like".
Talking about people calling Babangida "Maradona" - I have always laughed at that because he is really not. The point is that people who call him that just happen not to take a second and think about his answer to the last question before listening to his answer to the next question (when he has actually not flat-out flunked the question just as he did above). He mentions something general or not too far from a decent answer and elaborates on that which when pressed further you can actually see his face drop because he's not that smart anyway just as the lady said (if you rewind the video to 5:56) "the questions I'm trying to ask is that........". This is how you put people like him on the spot and tell them look "don't bullshit me" (you saw how the lady gently nodded her head meaning "you fool, let me repeat my question so you can answer me straight without all your BS". He finally flunked the question).
I'm glad he did at one point mention in the interview that Nigerians do not want another war (like Biafra) anymore. So he understood that and he used that a lot to get away with all his atrocities. All he did was look for the next fool, gave him some money and the job is done. How bright do you have to be to know that Nigerians do not want war anymore! Let me be real for a minute, I'm Yoruba and everyone knows quite well that Yoruba people do not like war - they are fun loving, money spraying and extravagant people by nature. Hausa people are laid-back, low profile and religious dogmas - just google how Balewa lived for example (until he, Babangida, opened their eyes). You know that explains why the British left power for them and not for any other bright person they were unsure they could trust as a puppet - believe it or not. Ibo people are the only ones who have some guts and will stand for what they really believe is their; just as they did in Biafra (not a direct or true way of explaining Biafra but close enough) but those people lost so many people and don't want a recurrence of that anymore.
Overall, YES, Nigerians don't want another war so he used that fact to hit us hard - by killing our brightest and gifting or looting our treasury. He legitimize stealing public funds, open Hausa people's eyes and created emptiness in our children. He's the reason most kids in Nigeria today are only looking for fast ways of getting rich. The reason our infrastructures are outdated since he did nothing as the president but loot. The reason most kids in Nigeria don't know the country was once a beautiful country - if you were born after 1978, you never experienced the beautiful Nigeria because you grew up knowing the state Babangida left things and how his proteges continue.
The lady did a good job making a fool out of Babangida in this interview.
