This reminds me of the motorcycle I learnt motorcycling on....the mighty YAMAHA RX100....another 2 stroke marvel....I still have the sound in my ears....
Hello RJ, I had a 1973 Yamaha 200 Electric that was a 2 stroke. It was such a beautiful bike and I sold it for $400 CDN (not realizing how valuable it was) because the stator needed to be replaced. I regret that I didn't keep it every time I see a beautiful classic bike! You have a gem and I wish you all the best! You are a true inspiration to me and wish you only the best! Thank you! Paul
Love the vintage bikes RJ! I use to race a 79 YZ400f in vintage class. It got too hard too find parts for the top end because the 79 engine was only made for one year. It had a smaller piston and longer stroke. It was a torque monster. I let a fellow racer ride it and he said "this isn't a motorcycle, it's a tractor!" because you could practically idol it up steep hills in every gear lol.
Really brings back memories of the two dt360s I had in the 70's. Truly used those bikes for everything. Listened to the engine on your ride, and had forgotten about the sound and feel when decelerating....ung, ung, ung, ung, ung. Great bikes with an engine that was eager and willing.
There's something so utterly pleasing about the sound of this ... piece of art. Not only is it amazing to watch but it also brings some memories of being driven by my dad on his bike (can't remember that bike though) and just wanting to keep driving more and more.
RJ I'm a big fan of anything 2 stroke just hearing this makes me wanna hunt one down and fix it up and have a 2 stroke to ride on the streets it's great there's people like you who have stuff like this and bring it out for people to see and enjoy
I also owned several DT1 250cc. Yes, the 400 got the sexy tank, and the 1980 DT 175E are a very good beginners bike due to its light weight and its steel tubes monocue swing arm at the rear wheel. It was upgraded with aluminium box swing arm with a square headlight with a fairing, leading angle fork on the front. Great fun bike.
I had one of these nasty thing's when I young and dumb. It used to try and break my leg every time I would start it. That noise though wow so many great memories, thank you RJ.
RJ when you want to keep the engine alive for some more years pull the clutch when you just roll. When a 2 strokes piston is moving without fuel it runs without oil aswell. greetings from germany
This particular one has an oil pump that directs oil straight at the cylinder and not the carburettor, so as long as the engine is turning, the piston is not starving of oil.
in 1974 I rode a 74 yamaha dt250 to work 5 days a week and scrambled with it on weekends ..did this for years ...loved the freedom ...18 years old at the time
Oh man that video gave me trowbacks to my lovely 1978 Kreidler Florett RS with its mighty 50cc and a whoping 7,3hp. I restored one back in its original shape after a 15 year old decided to paint it matte black and slapped all sorts of stickers on it.
Well done, I really enjoyed your walk through and the video of your ride. I had a 1974 DT 360, mine was the familiar green. Watching you ride yours brought back so many memories. Colorado had so many places to ride in the 1970s and into the 1980s, country lanes or open hills. Cheers!
I am from Singapore and owned a RT1. It's an earlier model with the exhaust on the right side just below the seat. It have a compression release valve just below the exhaust port. It's a badass bike and got a reputation for breaking the ankle when the kickstarter swing upwards due to the compression. Love the bike and it power..
The oldies really look like they're made by hand. Whereas the modern bikes have far less personality. Thanks for doing this for us, RJ, especially in these busy weeks before your Africa trip.
Epic little bike. Over the last year or so I have found myself drawn to much older bikes. They definitely have a certain "something" about them. From the sounds they make to the way they ride.
125cc 2 Strokes already have plenty of power. Some 125cc 2 strokes have 40 bhp. And nic eto see you here Walane. I watch you from time to time although my french is bad lol :D
Absolutely love this bike. Fantastic example, RJ. This makes me want to get my XT550 project done and going. Can identify with the hoarding of rare parts as parts for mine are difficult to find also hahaha! Love the 'bam bam bam' when you back off the throttle. Pure bliss.
Very very nice RJ that motorcycle is a work of art the sound & the smell of a 2 stroke is heaven & in our neck of the woods in long distance trips we add diesel to our 2 strokes so that it will run cooler & more resistant to overheating
Bought a new 1975 RD 350,most fun bike I ever owned, put low bars, chrome chambers, rear peg set,ran best and fastest at .50 over bore, would go up on Sky Line rd to Alice's Restaurant have a beer down LA Honda to hwy 1 over to Santa Cruz then back home on hwy 17 to Campbell, California
A '72 Yamaha 360 Enduro was my first motorcycle. I loved the torque in the first two gears. That bike wanted to leap off the ground when you gave it gas in the first gears. That bike got me into and out of trouble and I always had the edge. That front fender in this video is not a stock fender. The original was placed very close to the tire and was a mud clogger and not real practical for off road. This bike is a classic and super fun to ride but the suspension really sucked on it. The springs would bottom out on a jump. Change the points regularly and it will start right up. Super fun to ride if you are ready and prepared to lay into the throttle. You have to hang on if you gas it. The two stroke engines have that sound too. I miss them and if they were around I would have one. I'd love to take it through it's gears wide open again. Toss it off into the air on dirt bumps. But the emissions are bad like a leaf blower. All for fun though.
I use to have a 1973 360. Great Trail Bike and ride it on the road to the trails. The only thing I replaced on it was a head gasket. Sold it in 1980 to a Squadron friend.
Had the 250/400.both awesome bikes.Narrow tank was great ,comfortable for the legs, super manouverable.Plenty of power. Really good on the road. G/box was beautifull, clutch less changes up/down a breeze. Still miss that bike today, would buy one tomorrow,if I had $60000 AU. Yep,,,thats what they are worth!
Your video is a blast, I've watched it a few times. I had a green one and had some great times on it. So simple and strong. The power came on real fast. Great looking motorcycle too. Cheers.
I enjoyed to be shown that bike. I had a fantasy over the 175 version during mid 70's after seeing it win a drag race to the roundabout and back (1/4mile each way) against a heavier Harley D 175cc also. At the time I had a BSA Bantam D7 175cc shared with my older brother. I was 7 and struggled to kick start it. On at least two occasions I actually flew over the bike due to kick back. Ahh thems was the days
I think I prefer the tank on your 360, it had already caught my eye before you mentioned it. I am of on age where I remember 'enduro' bikes like this, so. very cool.
My dad has a Norton Commando 750, year 1970, 2 stroke. The engine has a power that just doesn't exist on modern bikes, you can just feel the powerful from the vibes of the front
I had 3 DT 360 A s and they were all green I've never seen that color that's awesome I think they have the best geometry out of all the big 2 Strokes enduros
SFAGGz...In factory trim, the engine in all Yamaha DTs are oil injected by an engine driven pump..so the engine receives a variable amount of oil even at idle when not touching the gas..
Please make some more videos of this and the 400 RJ... Absolutely my favourite bike from what you own... That noise is just the perfect 2 stroke burble... Would really love to see some back road riding :)
I love your bike! My grandfather just gave me his 1977 Suzuki TS185 Enduro (Which is now my first bike). I love it! It is spotless, but not quite as spotless as your Yamaha is. I wish that I could post a photo on this comment of it for you.
Love it man, ya lucky b.....d . I'm so jealous. Brings me back to my teens on mine. They are so beautiful and I'd swap my Norton commando for one now. Good for you, you have it sounding sweet too without the baffles.
if I was you, I'd apply for some Black registration plates. The law is a rolling 40 years meaning that any vehicle manufactured 40 years ago (currently 1976 and prior) can apply for classic registration and is exempt from Road Tax and next year in 2017 it will be 1977 and prior and so on...
+RoyalJordanian it used to be only bikes manufactured on January 1973 or prior, but the law changed in 2014 so it moves every year going 40 years back. Also the law with front Number Plates on bikes is that only bikes manufactured before September 1st 2001 (ironic date (9/11)) can have plates on the front if they want, and bikes made after the date cannot. The reason front number plates were gotten rid of alongside the metal black plates in replacement for the plastic reflective plates in 1973 is because they used to be known as the "Pedestrian Slicers" as the front wheel arch metal plates were pretty much lethal blades that were terribly dangerous for pedestrians if a crash happened, but thankfully the Government respects our Motorcycle traditions and let us have them in 2001 and put the rolling black plate law (for ALL vehicles) in 2014
I could listen to that engine all day. Takes me back to the good old days. Thanks RJ, your video was like a breath of fresh air.
i would love to see more videos from you riding the dt
There are on RJ's website: reel.tv/#!rjs-bikes/
I too
+No Surname They're private.
+1
This reminds me of the motorcycle I learnt motorcycling on....the mighty YAMAHA RX100....another 2 stroke marvel....I still have the sound in my ears....
The older Yamahas is so beautiful. Even the mopeds. I had a FS-1 when were younger. Loved it
Simplicity sure is a bonus. Greatest respect for oldies like this!
Hello RJ, I had a 1973 Yamaha 200 Electric that was a 2 stroke. It was such a beautiful bike and I sold it for $400 CDN (not realizing how valuable it was) because the stator needed to be replaced. Same problem with this, it was only made in 1974, one year as well.
The bike sounds amazing, it's like music to the ears!
Love the older classics, i have a suzuki GT 125 (1979). Fully restored, older 2 strokes have a place in my heart.
Really brings back memories of the two dt360s I had in the 70's. Truly used those bikes for everything. Listened to the engine on your ride, and had forgotten about the sound and feel when decelerating....ung, ung, ung, ung, ung. Great bikes with an engine that was eager and willing.

Found the bike. WSK Kobuz 175. It's a Polish motorcycle and I was born there (just to clarify).
RJ I'm a big fan of anything 2 stroke just hearing this makes me wanna hunt one down and fix it up and have a 2 stroke to ride on the streets it's great there's people like you who have stuff like this and bring it out for people to see and enjoy

Great fun bike.
I had that bike back in 1977. Just loved it and rode it everywhere.
You are a man after my own heart brother I just got me a 74 dt250 and I'm with you all the way
I had one of these nasty thing's when I young and dumb. It used to try and break my leg every time I would start it. That noise though wow so many great memories, thank you RJ.
Those were the Enduros I grew up with , indestructible, go anywhere, anytime !
Thanks for showing RJ !!!
Yes! Sounds beautiful! I just picked up an old 71 dt1e 250, I can't wait to hear it run, needs a lot of work first
RJ when you want to keep the engine alive for some more years pull the clutch when you just roll. When a 2 strokes piston is moving without fuel it runs without oil aswell.
greetings from germany
This particular one has an oil pump that directs oil straight at the cylinder and not the carburettor, so as long as the engine is turning, the piston is not starving of oil.
I love the sound of this bike man! i own a 1993 MZ ETZ, 2 strokes just so much fun :)
How long did it take you to restore these bikes?
Classic bikes never loose their style.
in 1974 I rode a 74 yamaha dt250 to work 5 days a week and scrambled with it on weekends ..did this for years ...loved the freedom ...18 years old at the time
GOD DAMN it's a beautiful bike. I wish they'd build something like this today, but sadly with a 4-stroke though.
How about the XSR series?
+Ecliptica are you seriously comparing a xsr to a dt??? xsr is just a mt07 with more clothes... dt has classic charm.
I thought it was a 09, bootsmanaa?
+Schwanzini DeKarotta xsr700 and xsr900 exist.
bootsmanaa Well.... i kinda missed the outcome of the xsr700.
I love 2-strokes, loved my 50cc, drove well after giving her nice timings and a good exhaust.
I cannot get enough of the old 2 strokes! Love love love old Japanes bikes. Keep making these videos RJ! :)
Oh man that video gave me trowbacks to my lovely 1978 Kreidler Florett RS with its mighty 50cc and a whoping 7,3hp. I restored one back in its original shape after a 15 year old decided to paint it matte black and slapped all sorts of stickers on it.

I'm only 14 and you've inspired me to get a motorcycle when I'm older.
With 15 1/2 you can start your licence here in Germany. I guess it´s not very different in any other country in the EU
In the Netherlands it's 18 for a 125cc and 16 years Old for 50cc's
+justplayingdead2 You have to be 16 to ride a 125cc with 15bhp here in germany
Hi RJ, im 14 and I have a 1980's suzuki ts125 which I'm learning to ride on , and i totaly agree with you ,you can't beat old 2-strokes
I am from Singapore and owned a RT1.
It's an earlier model with the exhaust on the right side just below the seat.
It have a compression release valve just below the exhaust port.
It's a badass bike and got a reputation for breaking the ankle when the kickstarter swing upwards due to the compression.

Thanks for doing this for us, RJ, especially in these busy weeks before your Africa trip.
The styling is exceptional. That tail-light mount, for instance. The sheer flat line of the tank bottom. The stuff you mention.
That sounds amazing man. There's no sweeter sound on this earth than a big ass two stroke 👌
Great bike RJ, gotta love those those old big cc 2-strokes and their build quality!
Epic little bike. Over the last year or so I have found myself drawn to much older bikes. They definitely have a certain "something" about them. From the sounds they make to the way they ride.
I can almost smell it just from the sound :)
loved this episode so nice to see you on an Old bike.
and really great power that shocked me
125cc 2 Strokes already have plenty of power. Some 125cc 2 strokes have 40 bhp. And nic eto see you here Walane. I watch you from time to time although my french is bad lol :D
indeeed !!
haha thank you you are very courageous to watch my videos because you dont speak french ^^
+Walane Oh tient un zizi xD
I have yamaha RD 125 from 1974. It's Fantastic and runs like a dream!
That bike looks and sounds amazing😳 WOW👍🏻
I remember when my dad use to have a 2 stroke bike like this :D. I just love the exhaust note this bike makes :D
1st bike ever 1976 DT100. A few yrs. later 1978 DT250. Lovely and brilliant motor bikes. Thank you.
What a beautiful bike and the exhaust note is just amazing. Show us more of your bike's please.
See RJ's website: reel.tv/#!rjs-bikes/
Reminds me of my old DT250.... It's nice to see you ride it like a two stroke .
Wow, that bike looks amazing RJ!
Fantastic bike takes me back the late seventies when I had a Yamaha MX500 2 stroke
We used to have a 1969 DT 125 that we bored to 175. Loved that bike!
Absolutely love this bike. Fantastic example, RJ. This makes me want to get my XT550 project done and going. Can identify with the hoarding of rare parts as parts for mine are difficult to find also hahaha! Love the 'bam bam bam' when you back off the throttle. Pure bliss.

That low rpm sound is amazing !
I love that sound . As kids we run all over the island on a 1975 175 enduro and a 1979 MX 175 what fun bikes !
what a cool bike! I love the sound it makes when you come off the throttle
Such a great bike. It was the 1st bike I owned. $300, started on the first kick everytime! Thanks for the share!
Bought a new 1975 RD 350,most fun bike I ever owned, put low bars, chrome chambers, rear peg set,ran best and fastest at .50 over bore, would go up on Sky Line rd to Alice's Restaurant have a beer down LA Honda to hwy 1 over to Santa Cruz then back home on hwy 17 to Campbell, California
love it! I restored a 1978 DT400. it's so much fun. if you get a chance I have a few videos of mine I'd like for you to see.

What a beautiful bike! Love the looks and the rumble of the 2 stroke engine
I love DT Yamahas. Had a 1975 175c. Bloody excellent bike .
I'm not so sure about the rear light assembly, but aside from that.. what a gorgous bike!
And it looks like it's in such great condition
I use to have a 1973 360. Great Trail Bike and ride it on the road to the trails. The only thing I replaced on it was a head gasket. Sold it in 1980 to a Squadron friend.
That bike is beautiful; the look, the sound, the details - needless to say RJ, I'm rather envious about this one in particular
Good ol DT360’s, this bike looks & runs excellent 👍.
Gotta love the 2 strokes. I have a 1980 Ty175 and a BMW f800r and I'd take the yammy on any given day.
I love the DT's i myself own a DT50 MX from 1982 and i love it to bits
Sorry to see it left the States.. But glad your enjoying it.. Went to a good owner.
Had the 250/400.both awesome bikes.Narrow tank was great ,comfortable for the legs, super manouverable.Plenty of power.
Really good on the road.
G/box was beautifull,clutch less changes up/down a breeze.
Cheers.
4:45 came all over myself, This is the best sound imo
oh, you can use this as a day to day bike, even on sand, off road, muddy puddles 2 feet deep, this bike is legend. take it anywhere, itll not break
Such a cool bike. And this sound. Just AWESOME!
Its just lovely.Simple yet well built and fun
these old machines are reliable and have a long life as they were made for rugged use...and were fun to drive..
I had a dt-1 400 1978 with mono shock, very easy to rebuild. Not a freeway bike but great in town, and very fun on and off road.
Also had a 1973 gt-360 off road only, tank of a bike super reliable.
Just got my self a 400. Here in Australia. Your 360 sounds very nice and smooth 👍
The charm of a 2 stroke!
Nice one RJ! That's one beautiful rare vintage bike. I never even knew a 360 existed only saw the 400. Wow @ That engine and proper braap, braap
i love the sound, reminds me of my youth
Would love to see your DTs more often
Do a daily observations only on the DT please RJ. Shes AWESOME
good ol 2 stokes, gotta love'm
Reminds me of my first bike, DT175MX......great little machine. live the vids RJ, keep 'em coming!
I think I prefer the tank on your 360, it had already caught my eye before you mentioned it. I am of on age where I remember 'enduro' bikes like this, so. very cool.
Beautiful bike! I have an 89 DT200R. LOVE 2 strokes
Beautiful bike. I had a RT1 360 in the 70s.
My first ever bike - like a proper bike - was a 250ccm 2-stroke MZ TS 250...
Brilliant fun even with only 19hp! :D
RJ, can you include this bike in your daily observations video? I really love the sound of it. Greetings from philippines.
That sound is so cute! :D
I love the look of those sleek bikes
RJ remember, you can't do a engine braking on a two stroke because the engine doesn't get oil when not giving gas. But that's a gorgeous bike tho!
SFAGGz...In factory trim, the engine in all Yamaha DTs are oil injected by an engine driven pump..so the engine receives a variable amount of oil even at idle when not touching the gas..
Need to see more of you on this!
Thanks, that brought back some memories. I had a '72.
love this bike! my first bike was a Yamaha RX-100 2 stroke
Not as old as your DT but had great fun on my de- restricted Yamaha RD 125 😀 in Kenny Roberts racing colours
You can put photo's on RJ's Facebook page...
I recently acquired a 73 ts 250 I love the old bikes
Love it man, ya lucky b.....d . I'm so jealous. Brings me back to my teens on mine. They are so beautiful and I'd swap my Norton commando for one now. Good for you, you have it sounding sweet too without the baffles.
another great video. I always look forwards to your updates
Oh man now you've got me wanting another 2-stroke!
if I was you, I'd apply for some Black registration plates.
The law is a rolling 40 years meaning that any vehicle manufactured 40 years ago (currently 1976 and prior) can apply for classic registration and is exempt from Road Tax and next year in 2017 it will be 1977 and prior and so on...
Thanks for that, never thought about it as I thought it's 1960's at least.

I like it.
I tried a cota 350 from a friend of mine and it's a lot of fun.
