I have a NAS for about 6 months or so now for media data storage and still figuring things out. However, I’m probably going to have to watch one my frequent channels to get the easier explanation of things and why I should do this.
The biggest advantage of AD at Windows server is GPO, not only managing users where u can only change password.. thats a tip of the mountain what real ADDS can do xD
I have 3 pc, iPad and phones, every devices can login to my NAS, just 1 computer can not. Do I have reinstall windows 11 on my computer or some tips to how I can fix this problem?
Am planing to buy this technology but am seeing all videos mentioning only Windows Devices and our agency 90% uses Mac and iOS devices, would you recommend me to buy Synology Nas ?
@@jross9919 I've made a few tries without success. I could import the other objects but couldn't get the new server part of the previous domain. So it was just copy/paste with no real benefits. Maybe I did something wrong. Nevertheless, I could find a proper procedure to do it
@@jross9919 You know what. I'm giving another try using a Virtual DSM instance based on 7.2. I could import the domain successfully with the provided wizard. I'm now trying to join it with a Windows Lab VM. I'll keep you informed of my progress
*Be careful with the Synology Directory Server! While Synology wants to establish itself in the professional environment, as soon as this service encounters issues, you find ZERO professional information from Synology, unlike what you get from Microsoft. Synology doesn't even have professional documents for the Synology Directory Server test function when the test reports errors like "1 critical issue detected - Unable to access local services."* *Of course, you can write to support - but in a professional environment, you want to be able to solve such critical problems immediately on your own and not have to rely on getting a 1st level supporter who has the expertise.* 🙂

Is this the same thing as LDAP? And does this work on Mac?
Keep in mind that AD isnt just only managing Users and groups, GPO are the powerful features where wont find anywhere.
This looks like it's useful for a home environment.
Saves money as you now don't need a Windows Server!

@@RK-ly5qj You can use RSAT with this to implement GPO. But yeah, the free thing isn't as good as the more expensive piece of software.
Wondering if there's anyway to sync this with Azure AD?
Can this be set up so that users have home folders on the synology server, thanks.
Great video!

Can forrest and trees be added, or create secondary domain/controllers?
How many user accounts can I have on my NAS? And not have it have any type of lag or buffering.

the natural manager of groups and users of Synology is so bad to apply this old spirit AD tool?

I use the Windows RSAT to manage the users
