  • A day with Les (former world no2 ranked speedway rider) and Aidan Collins (5 times British flat track champion & former speedway rider) trying to teach a load of numptys how to powerslide a 125cc speedway bike.
    A brilliant day, lots of fun and a lot harder than you would think.
    Thoroughly recommended.

    This is fantastic. I done a similar experience day at Ashfield in Glasgow with a company called Ride 'n slide dayz. They started us out on 125's, and by the end of the day they had us on 500cc. It was harder than it looks, but exhilarating. It was unnatural opening up the throttle and accelerating hard knowing you had no brakes 🤣.

      It's difficult to get your head round having no brakes and deliberately getting the back end sliding.

    I might have tried this about 45 years ago. Good people to learn from and you did well.

      Thank you. The guys there are brilliant. You're never too old to have a go at things. They also do a flat-track experience- I have a vlog on that, too.

    Good for you having a go. Once you’ve got your head around it the handling of the bike becomes easier. 👍🏻

      It was difficult to get out of road riding habits, especially as you got more tired through the day.

      @@LordBilious I know, I had the opposite when I got my first road bike, going round left hands was easy but right handers was a nightmare. 😂😂😂

      I'm glad you enjoyed it. You should still think about doing it- there's no pressure to go fast or fall off.

    Looks great fun,but reckon I need to get a bit fitter before having a go.
    Where was the water bowser,that dust was horrendous. Bet those air filters needed a good clean.I`d need a mask in that environment.

    I practice this on a beach with an enduro bike until i can get to try this for real! Unfortunately I find it much easier sliding clockwise than anticlockwise lol

    At 6:59 Why did the instructor have the practice sliding cones facing the fence? They should have been in the operating direction of the track course for runoff and track familiarity! (Turn 1). Fence! (Turn 2). Riders!

    • @LordBilious
      @LordBilious  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Denny Mcfastlane Because you are trying to slide the bike around the cones. Slow up to the cone, then accelerate round. As you go round the cone nearest the fence and face away from the fence you have the full width of the track in front of you to fall off in. If you did it your way, you would have less than half the width of the track. Plus you would have been going against the operating direction of the track on the way back. Anyway, what do I know, I'm not a professional who rides and teaches day in day out. Book yourself on a day with the guys and you'll be able ask them yourself.

    Your problem was going so slow. Speedway is one of those things that the faster you go the easier it is to ride and slide the bike. Let your bollocks drop and pin it! The bike then does the work.

    • @LordBilious
      @LordBilious  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a completely different style of riding to what I'm used to. I didn't think I did too bad for my first ever try of speedway. I dare say if I did it a lot, it would be easier. I must go back and do it again sometime.

    1:53 where's the kill switch and chord round the wrist

    • @LordBilious
      @LordBilious  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyran Lyden There was a kill switch somewhere- I remember it being mentioned in the briefing. They were only small cc bikes and non of us went fast enough to warrant a safety cord- I didn't leave the bike when I fell off.

    • @kyranlyden8686
      @kyranlyden8686 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lord Bilious I understand that they were only small cc bikes maybe 90cc but what if throttle got stuck or something went wrong with the bike and you had to immediately stop it. I'm just speaking from seeing things happen on track.

    • @LordBilious
      @LordBilious  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyran Lyden It's a different environment to an actual race. This was filmed over a year ago, so I can't remember details. The guys who run the experience would be the best ones to answer your questions, there are a couple of links in the vlog description.

    • @kyranlyden8686
      @kyranlyden8686 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay I didn't mean a race I meant just in general but I was just thinking of safety and that so.

    • @LordBilious
