    I have found, that that's the way gardening goes. One year will be fantastic, and the next wont be very good at all. There are just so many variables. Thanks for the great series.

      Absolutely. You just never know with all these variables!

    Thanks Corina for sharing your experience! and it is super helpful to see successful gardeners share vids even when the harvest isn't their biggest. Those onions did great in overcoming the drought and record heat!!!! great series! I love the complete process! Thank you!!

    Thank you for this great series! I ordered onion sets last year and babied them, but sadly they never grew into nice bulbs (I'm in northeast TN). Nice to know that I can try to grow from seed -- that will save me a TON of money -- and try again.

      It works great for us. Also, keep in mind that rain and irrigating will settle the soil more and wash some away.

      You are so welcome! I really like fish fertilizer for my garden. Compost is always a great idea, too! Onions have relatively high requirements for potassium and phosphorus, by the way. And they need a pH range onions of 6.5 to 8.0, so you could test your soil to make sure it's ideal. Good luck!

    do you have to pull dirt back away from the union so it get more sun, or do they just grow right out the ground like that?

    • @CorinaSahlin
      @CorinaSahlin  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you don't have to pull the dirt away. They do their own thing and know how to grow. It's awesome like that!

      thanks for reply, so I just planted 139 onion plants, we see how they do, they servived, and got a rain on them so most every one is surviving lol, I take saw dust and put it in my chicken pen, they rot it in no time, and I mix that kind of compost into the garden, my okra was ten feet tall and loaded with okra, If I had a phone I would like to make a video but I can't boowhoo lol shalom, be ready for the coming of the Lord, ,

      And I thought I was the only one crazy enough to plant a lot of onions. Last year I planted about 400. I chop most of them up, and then freeze them. They are great for cooking that way!

      I pull the dirt away when they are about half grown. For me, they seem to do better that way, but everyone has their own way of doing things.

    Hi Corina can you help me please its now the start of 2017 growin season last years crop of my salad tomatoes had tough skins otherwise they were fine.... grown in high grade compost in a controlled greenhouse would be most grateful if you can help me .if its any help in located in UTAH thanks Corina Ed

      Hot temperatures can cause tomatoes to have tough skin, as well as too little water. I wonder if this is what happened, especially since you are in Utah, where it gets hot! Or, some tomatoes have naturally thicker skins, but it doesn't sound like that was your problem. Try watering more, or maybe don't let them get too hot. Do you have to grow them in a greenhouse in your climate?

      Hi Corina yes come June to say August the temperature can reach around 100 degrees january its well below freezin snow although we live on a farm=== homestead i have little or no space for my tomatoes so i have built a greenhouse so i grow my maters in containers it's easier and less hassle ...this problem as only recently accrued is that what baffles me i haven't changed my growing methods Corina many thanks for your comments your kind words have been taken on board THANKS Ed

    Coffee grounds cut WAY down on weeding.
