If you want a city in Belgium that has a grotty/industrial vibe try Charleroi, for example, their tram network looks and feels very 70's like, and uses the same BN trams from the early 80's than the coastal tramway. But unfortunately their going to be modernised soon by Alstom.
@@ludwigvonkoopa4998 Yes indeed ! I went to one of the stations of this ghost line (Chet station. The easiest to access since there is a slope going to the viaduct and the fence has many holes cut in it by urbexers). I also know that their local transit museum, the ASVi, does sometimes tours on this line with a heritage tram since the line is powered.
Wooden escalators are very rare because of an incident that happened at Kings Cross in 1987. A smoker dropped a match onto the escalator and it resulted in a HUGE fire blasting right to the ticket area in a matter of seconds. This phenomenon is known as the Trench effect
Love the sound of those escalators. They certainly don't build them like that any more. God Ben the accents among your friends is hilarious. I'm not taking the piss, I could listen to you guys talking all day.
That station! Pretty impressive looking. It looks like NYC central station, same sort of design. Like those train annouchments, there's something comfortable in those flemish female voices...😁. You have to be dutch understand it, but I've set the voice on my car's satnav to one as it's a lot cuter/funnier the the regular dutch voice. That hotel with the interresting roof is a very post-modern design, i.e. it's gimmick architecture form the 80's.
Fantastic stuff. I've never seen an escalator motor room before, and hadn't thought about them having one.
OMG Same

there's also an entire ghostline (line to Cora/Chatelet)
