Warhammer 40k - Uthar the Destined Lighting Project

I recently finished up a model project that I'm quite happy with: instead of painting my Uthar the Destined commander with some nice object source lighting to make his sword look illuminated, I actually got it to light up. After sharing photos of the finished product I got a lot of questions about how I pulled this off, so here's my attempt to share the process.
