Playoffs? You never know with Popovich. I thought they would win 40 games last season. Boy was I wrong. I don't think they will tank this year, but who knows where they will land. There may still be another acquisition for all we know. If Spurs get Markannen then yeah, I can see a playoff run this year. Otherwise, maybe it is just more of a year to build the foundation and teach the young guys. The NBA has changed and so many guys come in at age 19 or 20. They don't have 3 or 4 years of Division 1 college ball under their belts and they need to be taught a lot more at the pro level than they used to. Spurs were the just about youngest team last year and the teaching continues into this year.

I am not they will make the playoffs. But I think they have a great chance of being a boarder line playoff team. I could seeing them winning 40 games and making the play in game at least.

I believe the Spurs have a total of 3-4 first round picks in 2025. My question is Pop is 75 years old. Who would you choose as next coach? A)James Borrego B)Becky Hammon C)Steve Kerr D)Other

Well to be sure to make the playoffs they almost need to win 30 more games and at least 20 to even have a chance to make the play-in. If they're not at least in the range of the play-in while making improvements by the trade deadline, Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes could be exchanged and that would mean big changes in the offseason, wether in free agency or in the trade market. We can reasonably assume that they'll be flirting with the play-in, between the 10th and 12th spots. The question is does Chris Paul push the panick button? It's safe to say that their season depends heavily on him at this point. Gregg Popovich knows how to win games, he'll have rookies and unconsistent players take a step back, he'll make sure to have enough fire power in the second unit, he's going to sit guys in back to backs and he'll restrict his key players minutes against top teams.
If he starts let's say Tre Jones, Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Sochan and Victor Wembanyama, he can still have Chris Paul, Malaki Branham, Stephon Castle, Keldon Johnson and Zach Collins coming off the bench. He still has Harrison Ingram that he can slide in depending on size and matchups. That looks like stuff that Pop would do when he's trying to win. At least something like that.
If he can make all the Spurs buy-in into the project I like their chances, my only interrogation is are they really in that mode yet? They could use one more season to allow Victor Wembanyama to develop without too much pressure, to give him the chance to build habits with teammates and to find his spots where he's going to score most of his points for the next 15 years, while you figure out who you want to keep on the roster, because there's still questions about everyone not named Victor. You also want to see what you have with Castle, if you're trying to win now at best he's a role player that they will start some games.
By the way you take the same roster, add Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, swap Victor Wembanyama with Jakob Poetl and that's a play-in team just three years ago, they added two veterans so they're getting close to where they were not that long ago.

@@gallici-anima-christianaRight! Are they really in that mode yet? That is the question. Right now only Pop knows. We will probably know by 10-15 games into the season, just by watching who Pop plays at key moments.

Idk why this move is so hyped up like a guy that wasn't even a starter on a team that didn't even make the playoffs last season is gonna save a team that was one of the worst in the league last season.

I see what you are seeing. But every time CP3 goes to a different team they improve. Teams such the Clippers, Rockets, Thunder, Suns and Warriors all had better records when he played a full season with them. Plus the Spurs have not had a great PG since Tony Parker. The Spurs last season did not have a very good PG and Wemby was still really good. Thats why everyone is excited for this because CP3 knows how to get Wemby and make him even better.
