How a SINGLE ROAD lifted a poor Chinese village out of poverty?

- Our "Unknown Village" story continues at Quanda Village, Guangxi province, China.
Quanda Village, a small, poor village at 5,000 feet high on the top of the mountain. For hundreds of years, villagers had no access to the outside world. They’ve saying for hundreds of years is “Build a road? In your dreams!”
How can this small village survive for hundreds of years? How a single road lifted this village from poverty?
These questions brought me to Quanda village. To find the answers, I chatted with some of the locals in the village.

Was it some kind of Bai Jiao and would it be 30-40% alcohol like most spirits? One whole bowl like what raz drank from my seems quite a lot, I would be drunk after half a bowl already.
How many government would do the same for their poor citizen? China is truly an amazing country.

The leaders in China got their basics right, right from the start. Transport infrastructure will ensure everyone is given more opportunity at a much lower cost to ply his business. It is obvious, the policy is successful with the rural people now able to sell their produces so much easier! This is the basis for the development of the rural area which once better developed will also attract the people from the cities during the week-ends! Such a wonderful way to spread the turn-over of the RMB!!!
這村子太偏僻了 修路 走電線和自來水太沒經濟效益了 如果這些水電公司是私營公司是不會搞這些的，所以關乎民生問題的企業就不能交給私營

I love seeing Chinese people happy, and improving their lifestyles with the help of the government, villages are precious, and an important source of food, and everything that has to do with survival, and being connected to Mother Earth. I was brought up in a village attached to a big city, and my memories sowing green beans, potatoes, planting tomatoes, pumpkins, and so on, harvesting veggies, and fruits was the best, and the most delicious. It was the best simple healthy life l ever had. Thank you for sharing this village experience with us.

When you see remote villages and people being taken care of, you understand how China has come a long way but within a very short period of time. This shows the true spirit of the Chinese government striving to serve the people, not through mere rhetoric but in deeds. The happy and contented faces of the people you see on this video are those coming from people with genuine appreciation of the government's efforts.

Actually, poverty alleviation is possible in nearly every country on earth. Even the poorest, like Congo, have the means. But the political elites in most countries don't want to make the effort. That's why so many people remain so poor.

我老家也是农村的，现在大部分人都搬到城镇里住了，村里就剩2,3家人，但也修了水泥路，通了电。
要想富，先修路。中国是这样，世界也是如此

Road access provide mobility and open up opportunity beyond the confine of the village
I am the 2nd generation Chinese living in southeast Asia, in 2008, i visited my dad village in Hainan, at that time the wasn't any proper road to get there, no internet, and the tv program was really sucks!
In 2018, my dad again asked me to go there to sign some paper. Reluctantly, i went there again, this time around, the government had built a 2 lanes asphalt road, internet connection is faster than where i came from, all my previously very poor cousins, who can't even afford a tv now owned a car, one of them even bought a brand new Mercedes s class!
In the past, my dad would have them some money but this time around, they all refused to accept money from my dad.
If anyone were to tell me CPC is a bad government, i will tell him/her to fly kite!
九几年我大学同学有从广西百色贫困村来的，人很好，但是是真的穷，大学入学买的夹克一直穿了四年。 不过他人很努力，后来分配到县里，算是教育改变命运的例子了。

Nice report. To lift so many people out of abject poverty is a modern miracle. Very impressive. Raz has seen more of China than most Chinese. Can't help feeling a tiny bit envious.
If you're drinking with the locals they are happy to have several drinks with you. Mostly one will end up happy, stuffed and a little drunk 🤭 don't drink and drive though 😌
Man! Especially not on THAT road! We see this sometimes in videos from mountainous areas... I live in FLAT country, and don't know how to drive on switchbacks and icy mountain roads like that! I can definitely imagine a low-key kind of tourism where you just go up into the mountains, and stay in a little hut, and lush out with some old people! And just don't look at computers or anything for a few days.... Looked like a good time! Not everyone HAS grandparents!!!!
@@leonardpearlman4017 That's right, I love those times too having some good talks in a hut. Snowy Mountains are nice or in the woods. Luckily I learned to drive in harsh conditions and it happens more often in Europe that there's drunken driving. Good that we grew up 😌

My relatives village also like this. Now government build a road to the top of the mountain and build new homes for the villagers who like to live. Actually There is an old couple without children, get supported by government. In China there are many such 五保户, five protected family.
Thank you for the effort on bringing the real China to the world, especially the life in the smallest and poorlest village, and how is the change happening there in recent years.

大多数人迷恋都市生活，是因为过去中国在工业化过程里，把城乡二元社会的差异拉的太大了。这种差异，那时候就像两个世界，从城市到农村就如同从西方发达国家，一下进入非洲第三世界国家。可以说，中国的工业化进程，每一步都满含中国农民的汗水，泪水甚至健康代价。这个是工业化过程里不得不付出的代价。西方可以用殖民掠夺来完成，可是我们中国，只能靠牺牲自己的方式来完成。这个过程是非常痛苦的，而现在共产党要做的，就是在初步完成国家全面工业化的基础上，把资源重新整合分配。现在中国的城乡差距，已经大幅度缩短了。除了那些特别偏远地区，大部分农村，你都可以花不大的成本，建自己的小楼房，买辆汽车，通过高速公路，最多一两个小时就能进城。如果要去附近的大都市，通过高铁，一天内都可以到达。
当然，相较于发达国家社会，中国农村的发展还远远不够，其中问题最严重的是医疗和教育资源的问题。
但是共产党能够在完成工业化累积后，把资源重新分配，而且是大规模分配，这是西方资本主义国家尤其是美国，做不到的。这说明共产党没有忘记初心，没有忘记最初给老百姓的承诺。但是，要说千恩万谢共产党，那也没有必要，因为这些成就，是当初我们上一辈人牺牲出来的，只能说现在是共产党兑现诺言，的确是好样的，值得继续支持。

The government must be involved in poverty eradication. The reality is that if you depend on 'user pay' these poor people who live in remote areas will never get any development on their land. The monetary returns do not justify the cost. But if you look at it from humanity and philosophy of improving the lives of the poor, it is worth every cent. One cannot cost compassion and humanity. I love that the poor are not forgotten and efforts made to lift them to better living and providing them the basics such as clean water, electricity, home and roads. They feel so proud of building their own house. My heart warms for these people. And thank you, Raz for another heartwarming video about 'ordinary Chinese' .

想致富，先修路!! 國父 當年曾上李鴻章書，裡面提到救國四大綱領，亦即「人能盡其才，地能盡其利，物能盡其用，貨能暢其流」四句話。這四句話雖然討論的是不同的項目，但是都有一個共通的部份，那就是跟「交通」有很大的關係。台灣當初的經濟奇蹟，也是因為 經國 先生"今天不做，明天就會後悔"的十大建設，而其中就有六項是交通運輸建設，而今天中國的崛起，也脫離不了各項迅速便捷的交通建設!!

最好的還是教育. 給所有地區的孩子相同水平的教育資源. 這樣就可以讓他們的下一代不必做體力活了.
