Eri Hand Spinners

In this short film, we travel to Assam and Meghalaya, capturing the revival of the tradition of hand spinning eri silk yarn (also known as ahimsa silk yarn). Historically, women in these agrarian communities have relied on hand spinning eri to supplement their incomes. But in recent years, mills and mechanised spinning have monopolised the textile market. These small scale revivals are slowly but surely making their presence felt, empowering women once again.
